I reached out to the salon directly to let them know what happened so it could be addressed and other's wouldn't have the same experience. The management blamed me the first time, and after I posted the review, she texted my private number and stated again that it was all because of the length of the hair. As you can see in the article screenshot, bruising is caused by poor technique. I've also had dozens of waxes at this point so I am well aware of how my skin reacts. Unfortunately, the service took 40 minutes and was also the most painful waxing I have experienced. The wax seemed like it was very difficult for the esthetician to remove. At one point, the esthetician used hard wax to remove more hard wax. Multiple times the stick got unstuck and she had to place another one on, or she just pulled too early. While the esthetician herself was a truly lovely person and a pleasure to talk to, I strongly advise not getting this service.

I specifically called ahead and asked for a stylist who specializes in short haircuts. Instead, I was paired with someone who seemed fresh out of school and specialized in highlights. I showed the stylist multiple inspiration pictures, but the final result looked nothing like them. Don't let the high-end atmosphere or great reviews fool you--they completely ignored my preferences. Not every woman wants long, highlighted hair. Some of us are professionals who prefer short, sharp styles, and we deserve to be paired with stylists who actually have that skill set. I drove home in tears. Save your money and go somewhere that actually listens to clients.

The girls working say something to the effect of "I love your hair, my son would love to have a cut like that". So, I reply "thanks, I just got it cut", and they are like "ohhh,fresh!" and I say, "yep, right across the street" and point to your place. The stylists that own and operate this place used to work at the Boric's in Urbana (next to the county market), and they are pretty good at what they do. I was surprised to see them in this place, since I knew they are both good at what they do. The difference, of course, is that here they don't have to pay the franchise fee, which could be as high as 60%! The result was that my stylist (Jenny, which I highly recommend her work) took her time and paid lots of attention to what she was doing to my hair, while I always felt rushed when going to Borics, super cuts, etc. with lots of machine cutting. They make a point to keep their prices the same as national chains, so an adult haircut is $13, which is very reasonable. They run coupons in local magazines and ads, and Jenny told me that they would even accept competitor coupons as long as it brings them business. One small point: It's better if you call and make an appointment. You can walk in of-course, but they give preference to people with appointments. I'll call in next time before I go there.

They have an amazing neon sign near the hair washing station that I will have to get a picture of next time. This morning I met with Nicole for a fresh haircut. She was amazing! When done right, having my hair washed, is one of my favorite salon experiences. Nicole did a fantastic job incorporating the right amount of pressure for a lovely scalp massage while washing. She then proceeded to do an excellent job on my haircut. I will definitely be going back!

Big city style and experience for a small town price! My cut plus tip was cheaper than my base hair cut price in St. Louis! Next time I can't make the trip to St. Louis, I won't hesitate to book an appointment!
