AAA Chicago - They just expected me to be elated with them on the phone. Ha! I wonder if it even left the country...!?

I have the Gold membership and I am so disappointed in what kind of service AAA is giving their best customers. I had to cancel my request but will try again in the morning.

I used AAA to book my 7/1/22 trip to Europe. I purchased the travel insurance and took advantage…read moreof their offer of wallet protection they offered for free. Not really thinking I'd need the insurance but just for the peace of mind. Well apparently travel season exploded and the airlines were "blindsided" by the volume. Really?? Because there are X amount of seats so how are you blindsided? Also the cost of my ticket was DOUBLE compared to pre-pandemic pricing so one would assume the costs were for bringing service up to pandemic safety levels, fuel costs and whatever needed to provide proper service for paying clients. To further ensure problem free travel I chose the high level Star Alliance group (United and Lufthansa). Well it turns out that was all for not as my baggage was lost for the entirety of my 11 day stay on foreign soil. The confusion this created ruined my stay and left me susceptible I having my phone and attached wallet lifted. So here I sit in a foreign country with no wallet, no phone, no clothes, no sundries, no gps, no electronic tickets and train passes as all backup paper copies were in my checked baggage. Thank goodness I carried backup meds on my person as I take blood thinner. When I turned to AAA they acted as if I was not a paid member! Said that the insurance I purchased didn't cover my losses and said it was up to me to call and negotiate with the airlines on my own and would file a claim for my lost luggage nor wallet. I have had AAA membership off and on for more than 15 years and learned to trust them with auto needs and service. When it comes to travel and being there when I needed them most, they really let me down and with a promise to call me back, left me to figure things out on my own. As you can imagine I needed to alter my plans and cut out visiting planned cities but could not cancel hotel reservations in Munich as mysteriously I could no longer sign onto the AAA app! I guess I can't fault them for auto service but as for travel, trust me, you're on your own.

We brought him 2 auto, 2 homes and 1 business policy. Unfortunately, things have not gone well. Sandy, who works with Jim, made numerous mistakes with policy information and their office allowed our second home policy and flood insurance to lapse without even as much as a phone call. We thought we were set up on autopay but were only set up on auto-renew. We had no idea the policy had lapsed and during this time there was a major flooding incident on The Chain of Lakes that we were affected by. Fortunately we incurred no substantial damage. It was only by accident 5 months later we figured out the policies were no longer in force. When we exchanged emails with Sandy, asking why we were not ever called because we would never have allowed our policies to lapse, her response was that State Farm mailed us 3 bills and we failed to pay them. While I am sure what she states was true, we thought we were set up on autopay and didn't think twice about it. What happened to good old customer service? How about a phone call or an email? Given the fact that great service is the only thing that distinguished one agent from another, we have elected to move our State Farm Insurance to another agent who does actually call or email their clients when policy premiums go unpaid just to make sure there wasn't a miscommunication. I highly recommend you seek to find an agent who's attention to detail and interest in serving their clients is higher than Jim Danko's. Very disappointing and could have been a catastrophic experience for us. Thank God it was not.

So why am I paying roadside assistance for you to not ACTUALLY ASSIST ME? I told the guy on the phone THAT is your customer service to leave us stranded on the side of the road and he said I can't do anything for you ma'am. And then yesterday when my son's car wouldn't start. He was left stranded in Walmart parking lot for THREE HOURS because I have free towing and they kept texting my son your driver is on the way and FINALLY got tired of waiting and we called someone else and had to pay out of pocket for towing now I live in a pretty big town. Out of ALL THE NUMEROUS local towing companies they called a tow truck from 45 minutes away, and made my son's move in day for his first year of college stressful. Didn't bother telling us that the tow company was that far away. This is NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE. If you do not have this insurance DO NOT SIGN UP FOR IT, even with their rates being sometimes lower than their competitors it is not worth it to pay ALL THE MONEY we have been paying for MANY YEARS, only to get NO HELP when we actually need it.
