What a unique gem right in our backyard! Clean, well organized, and informative. Beautiful wildflowers and places to sit and enjoy outside.

    Spectacular front

The newish museum is quirky, diverse and fun. One guard, who wears wildly expressive glasses, is terrifically informed. And listen up thirsty beer drinkers: In the entire US, there is only one museum with a bar. This is it, right here in Kohler/Sheboygan Wisconsin Beer, wine. Beer was refreshing on this, probably the hottest day so far in 2023. Don't forget the beautiful bathrooms

WOW! Never knew this existed! The building, the archives, the collections, and even the RESTROOMS! Worth the visit.

The building is attractive outside and inside.

John Ruskin: "Life without labor is guilt; labor without art is brutality." The JMK Art Museum celebrates art that is created not so much by highly trained or famous artists, but by regular people who have found sincere and approachable ways to express themselves. That is what makes the experience feel so genuine and human. I very much enjoyed all of the installations in this small but distinguished museum. It is thoughtfully curated, inspiring, and quietly powerful in its message. I would absolutely enjoy coming back to see future installations. A real gem for Wisconsin. ps - And don't forget to check out all of the bathrooms!

This art center is one of the best I've been to because of the variety of art I loved exploring all of the bathrooms. Those were some of my favorite, and I also really enjoyed the exhibit that had a variety of art from artists and hobbyists all over Wisconsin with different medias. For a free arts center I spent about an hour exploring. Add this to your list of Sheboygan visits.

I had never even heard of Manitowoc, Wisconsin but I'd definitely heard of Keith Haring and Rahr West had a special exhibit of his original subway art. I'd seen Keith Haring art in person before but not original salvaged chalk drawings on what were blank advertising panels and I was totally geeked about it. They had a really extensive selection and it was awesome seeing it weathered and showing other layers of stuff stuck to parts of it, ads and whatnot as well as other graffiti on multiple panels. One had a little kid chalk drawing in addition to Keith's. Really wonderful stuff to see in pers and I didn't have to go to NYC or pay NYC prices to do so. This museum is donation based with $5 suggested for adults. The special exhibit does take up the better part of the space, wrapping around a central gallery and there's a smaller gallery off to one side. It had an awesome piece of folk art and a couple good landscapes but there wasn't a whole lot extraordinary in the permanent collection. They do have a little piece of a Sputnik salvaged from the streets of this city and a cool sculpture outside. Downstairs there's student art studios and some funky murals. They have a recreation of Starry Night made with bottle caps that covers a whole wall. That made quite an impression on me. There wasn't also a chalkboard with some examples of Keith Haring art next to it encouraging you to make your own Keith Haring style art, or not Keith Haring style if you wanna be an iconoclast. There's not enough in the permanent collection here for me to recommend going out of your way to visit but if they have an incredible special exhibit like Keith Haring and you find yourself in Wisconsin this is a fantastic little museum.

We enjoyed looking at the artwork from this museums collection. It's a free museum. Plenty of parking in street. The simplicity, clean lines and extensive use of glass makes the building itself is a work of art. How the architect took into Consideration the natural surroundings should be recognized. Once you step inside there are several galleries to explore. Feature artists include Frank Lloyd Wright, Fred Stonehouse, John Szarkowaki and so many others. Examples of German Impressionism, realism, sculptures and glass art are just some of the beautiful pieces you'll enjoy. Alice LaQuintana was the docent who guided our group and she was absolutely amazing. I took art history and appreciation in college and learned many technical details about different types of art/ artists but Alice taught me how to really enjoy art. The museum is a wonderful cultural addition to the West Bend area and well worth a visit. My only suggestion would be a few more strategically placed benches or seating areas in each gallery so patrons can really take the time To absorb all what the artists created.

What a nifty way to spend an afternoon. Oh, and it's five bucks (I didn't even ask about the Senior Rate). The artwork on display is incredible, with some genuinely masterful pieces, as well as more modern interpretations. Mostly paintings with some sculptures, iron work, and videos. They even have a rooftop which offers incredible views of the skyline and features several large sculptures, just bw aware that it's closed for winter. I took an hour and a half to get through it, and that's just taking a peak at the rooftop. I would say you could spend upwards of 2 hours here with little difficulty.
