I was referred to this office by my primary eye doctor after it was discovered that cataracts were causing my vision to worsen. I met with Dr. Yu in February, and from the very first appointment, I knew I was in good hands. He thoroughly explained what was happening with my eyes and walked me through the next steps with patience and professionalism. Although I was nervous about having eye surgery, the outcome has been incredible. After wearing distance glasses for over 15 years, I no longer need them! Dr. Yu truly gave me my vision and quality of life back. I would also like to commend the entire staff. Everyone is professional, accommodating, and efficient. Title: Terrible Experience - Please Be Careful I had my cataract surgery done here, and it turned into a nightmare. I went in with very high eye pressure, but they still went ahead with my left-eye surgery as scheduled. During surgery, my capsule broke. The surgery center didn't even have the proper lens for the sulcus, so I was left without a lens in my eye for two weeks. Later, they performed another surgery to implant the lens. Unfortunately, due to the trauma from the first failed surgery, my cornea became swollen, followed by consistent inflammation. Six months later, Dr. Kung told me that there were leftover fragments from my natural lens causing infection -- and that I needed a third surgery to remove them. All of this led to corneal edema, loss of vision, ongoing inflammation, and constant pain. After consulting two cornea specialists, both confirmed that the bad cataract surgery caused all of these problems. Now, the only solution left for me is a cornea transplant. I am terrified and deeply regret trusting this place. RUN -- do not risk your eyes or go through the misery I'm experiencing. On top of everything, they ran many tests on their machines and charged me a lot of money throughout this ordeal. read more

I had two very successful cataract surgeries with Dr Kung and am very happy with the results. I recently went for my 3 mth post op appt with Dr Kung (which is the only time you actually see him after the surgeries) and unfortunately I walked out of the office with a bad taste in my mouth. The appt was scheduled by the office along with all the other cataract post op required appts. When I arrived, I was told I had to pay a $50 copay. I paid a large amount for these surgeries as laser and implants are not covered by insurance and all the previous post op appts were included in this amount. I questioned why a copay and was told it was beyond 3 mths since surgery. So bottom line is they purposefully schedule Dr Kung's follow up 3 mths after the first post op visit rather than the date of surgery so they can collect a copay and they don't tell you that up front. After a successful surgery, it is unfortunate that I walked out of there with a bad taste in my mouth. All for a $50 copay which they intentionally collect by scheduling 2 weeks after the 3 mth period ends. For anyone having surgery, I suggest you have them make the post op appt with Dr Kung within 3 mths of the surgery date. Not taking anything away from the qualifications of Dr Kung as my surgeries were very successful, it is all about money. read more

i payed 1600 dollars for my gf torrid lens and her co payment of 101dollars. she has anxiety and informed them of her condition. they told her she can eat up to 6 hrs before surgery. she gets a call saying know eating after midnight and the doctor doesnt do surgery in morning. car service called said 11:30 h e would arrive. sitting outside from 11:30 full of anxiety. she called office told them she is anxious hungry and would reschedule withthe doc that can do it mornings. the rude receptionst stated he is 25 patients behind him. i told them give me a refund. she says you willget 500.00 dollars back thats it, we did work here. well then whats my co payment for that i paid.also told me to have a nice day. she advise me i will get charged for car service which i would of anyway. all about money.... not very nice to treat her this way read more

I've been to this clinic a few times, but this was the first time I had gotten a technician who had introduced herself. I got Sally as my technician and she was super professional and super friendly. I was here for my cataract surgery options and she was able to help me follow through each detail and explain all the testing that needed to be done. There was one scan that was complicated because of my eye but she didn't give up and tried to get the best scan for me which was super helpful. She wanted the best scan for the doctor. Dr. Kung was super professional and laid out every choice for me. After he was finished with me he took me to the surgical coordinator Ashely. She was also super professional and helpful. She was able to help me prepare for the surgery. I am very grateful and I trust that I'm in good hands with the doctor and the staff. Dr. Kung performed my Lasik surgery, and the experience was great. Though it wasn't done at this facility, Dr. Kung performed it. He's friendly and attentive. All my anxious questions (How hard do I have to touch my eye for it to be considered rubbing? What does corneal flap tearing feel like? How much blinking is considered excessive blinking?) were answered by his friendly staff. The procedure is a little more expensive than other locations because it's not actually done at this location, it's done at the Eye Surgery Center in NJ. A little tip: They'll give you free samples of Vigamox, the antibiotic eye drop for your eye that you need post op, which is about the same size as the $80 bottle prescribed. It's a hell of a deal. read more

I visited Dr. Kung at the East Brunswick facility, but I believe my review is applicable here as well as he operates from both. Please do not be tricked by this doctor to perform something as important as surgery to your eyes! In my age, I've become more judgemental of medical facilities I visit and medical treatment that I receive. I firmly believe there are two camps - the one that prioritizes the medical well-being of its patients and the one that's primarily out there for profit. I firmly believe Dr. Kung and his staff are in the latter camp. During my initial consultation, I was tricked into believing that paying an additional $2,500 for "premium" lenses would resolve both far-sighted and near-sighted problems that I had. After treatment and months of follow-ups, my near-sight still hadn't gotten better, and I was then told that the issues I had would not be resolved and that the treatment doesn't always work perfectly for everyone. There are instances and scenarios that I can precisely play in my head that continue to terrify and frustrate me. The first was being manipulated to pay for a premium lens during consultation and the disappointing follow-up visits (Note: I had my other eye treated with another doctor - Dr. Peter Murr - who told me that premium lenses would make no difference - suffice to say, I am very pleased with my results there). The second was erroneous medical records which had my gender incorrect and were plagued with other clerical issues. The third was in the billing department which made me feel like I was being duped even further to pay more. I don't recommend anyone coming here. The staff and the doctors are manipulative and it is clear, they are in it for profit alone. read more

I was a long-time patient of Dr. Kung who is now a former patient and here's the reason why: In July 2015, I had a change in insurance provider and Dr. Kung was in-network; I was happy as I previously had positive experiences and was pleased he was in-network of my new provider. I advised the receptionist when making the appointment of my new insurance provider and provided my new insurance information (insurance provider, group # and member ID), going so far as offering to fax in a copy of my insurance card. The receptionist told me this was not necessary and that she was able to verify my new insurance coverage. The appointment was made; however, what happened when I showed up several weeks later (September 2015) was disturbing. The receptionist (a different woman) was extremely rude and unprofessional and had the audacity to tell me I had to pay cash (not even cc) if I wanted to see the doctor. I advised I was an established patient, the only change was my new insurance plan, that my coverage was verified when I made the appointment and that Dr. Kung was in-network. She unprofessionally told me since it was the first time using the new insurance with them I had to pay cash and submit for reimbursement, even though my coverage was verified and I presented my insurance card. The office Manager was just as unprofessional and demanded I pay cash for service and as a result I could not get my eye exam. I have never had a doctor or their staff put a price on my health and am convinced the reason they demanded cash was because it would have been more than my insurance plan would have paid. I am disgusted at the lack of professionalism and tact by his receptionist and office Manager and the fact they demanded cash when I had insurance coverage for which he was in-network is very troubling. It's a shame as I was previously a satisfied patient and the greed and unethical behavior of his receptionist and office Manager made me change doctors. I am very happy with my new doctor and will never entertain the thought of going to Dr. Kung again solely due to his unprofessional and unethical staff. read more

Therefore, I will never be a patient or recommend Dr. Kung, no matter how great he is. Basic people skills is not an option when you work in the medical field. I had LASIK done with Dr. Kung in 2010. Now here we are in 2014 and my vision has been deteriorating to the point where I will need glasses again. My vision has BEEN deteriorating for the last year, and now I have reached a point where it is almost as bad as it was prior to the surgery. Not even a full three years that the LASIK lasted and now by year four I am back to square one. A waste of my time and my money. I called last year to ask them for a new consult due to my deteriorating vision and they had the nerve to tell me they wanted $200 for it. I will never recommend this doctor or his practice to anyone. read more

Dr. Kung is the one who did my lasik surgery. He was very nice and tentative when I had my surgery. All the office staffs are very nice and caring. Waiting time in office is no more than 10 min. Sabrina: I am sorry your mother's lost her sight. But i can tell you that Dr. Kung is an excellent Ophthalmologist and a Doctor who treats his patients with extreme care and compassion. My mother has been seeing Dr. Kung for over ten years now. After bad outdated cataract surgery by another surgeon out of State, I took her to Dr. Kung to remove the other cataract and save her eye. My mother has diabetic retinopathy and I can say with confidence that by the grace of God and because of Dr. Kung's knowledge, skills and competence she still has vision in one eye. Dr. Kung is an excellent Ophthalmologist and I highly recommend him. Because of this, his excellence services are in great demand both here on Staten Island and also in New Jersey. His office is always pack. Despite being busy, Dr. Kung makes time to go on medical missions to different countries. Other staff Doctors Arnaldi and Chen are also excellent in their profession. read more
