Dr Edmund Kwan was referred to me by friend who is in the medical field himself as well and is highly respected and renowned. He has made several appearances on the Doctors, ABC and Dr OZ. My first impression was when I made my initial appointment for a consultation. The lady on the other end of the phone sounded very nice and welcoming. It was very comforting. The practice is immaculate. Beautiful, clean, spacious and modern. It smelled nice and I really like the way they schedule their patients, not once did I feel awkward or just a number. The staff treated me very kindly, with respect and genuine smiles. Dr Kwan is a real professional in my opinion. He took the time to listen to my story, addressed my concerns and took his time to walk me through the process and give me his opinion and explanation on his recommendation. Yes I agree that he is not a chatty Doctor, he is to the point and professional. If I want someone to chat with, I'll go for coffee with my friends. I believe that his pricing is extremely fair and competitive, especially for the level of service I experienced. Not once did I feel pushed into committing to the surgery. I waited 4 months before contacting him to tell him that I was ready. I had my surgery in his practice and we went over everything again before I met up with the anesthesiologist, who was equally as nice and professional as everyone else at his practice. We started counting bikes ... and after bike #6 I fell a sleep. When I woke up, he was there to tell me I did great and before I knew it I was in a taxi cab back home with my best friend who came to pick me up. So I don't know if this is typical, but I had no pain whatsoever after the surgery ... yes I had discomfort, but after 2 days I was ready to go back to work and go about life. However, I took his advice to heart and took it easy. When I had to come back a couple of days later for a check up / get the drains out ... Dr Kwan told me that I wasn't ready for that yet and decided to leave them in. I was not happy but knowing myself, this def was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to take it easy for a couple of days longer. Fast forward 3 months. I am very very happy with the results. I had eye surgery many years ago it was bad ; everyone all my friends who saw my double eye lid cut believe it was a failure. For all these years I spend lots of money to refix it but it's very difficult because the cut was so deep. The problem with the doctor is he doesn't seem listen to you - and the most funny part is he charged you for multiple procedures during consultation but he didn't do all of them during surgery ; I had to go back to his office and ask for it then his staff refunded me , I wonder a real good responsible doctor would do something like that ?! read more

I will be filing a grievance to the state medical board and a lawsuit against this practice. PLEASE READ : DO NOT GO TO EDMUND KWAN OR YOU WILL END UP DISFIGURER, REGRETTING IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I had double eyelid surgery by him and many things went wrong. I am writing this so that no other girl or woman is harmed in this way. - Starting with the most severe damage done: he operated on me without appropriate/timely anesthesia - I was screaming as he burned fat under my eyelids and could smell my own flesh burning before I was put under and unconscious. After the surgery, the nurse asked if I was ok and she was concerned because I was screaming "it hurts!" during the surgery. I was in so much shock that this happened/did not want to think about it and was too scared to bring it up. I never thought this could happened to me and am still coming to grips with this. - On the day of the surgery, the entire pre-op consultation was completely rushed. He drew on my face and promptly left the room without explaining exactly how he was going to achieve the results we discussed and without giving me a chance to look at myself in the mirror with everything he drew on. I had to chase after him into the hallway to ask even one question. Had I had the chance to see myself, I may have possibly caught the many errors (though this should NOT fall on the patient) that would happen in the operating room. - After the surgery, the swelling in my right eye remained for at least 8 months. It made me look like I was punched in the eye and the few friends I was comfortable enough seeing in that condition were asking if I was ok. I did not look better as plastic surgery should make me look; I looked like I was harmed. - My right eye was stitched in the wrong position so that it couldn't open all the way - I looked like a horror plastic doll with one eyelid opened wide and other eyelid half closed. It also somehow made me look cross-eyed. - The surgery made my eyelids everted - flipped inside out. Now the underskin of my eyelids is more exposed, causing extremely dry eyes and a strip of white underbelly skin right underneath my eyelashes. - I specifically asked for parallel/open folds, and less angular inner corner/to pull my inner eyelids up to create bigger brighter eyes which he said he would do, but instead got the complete opposite. Not only are the results tapered, but my eye opening is actually smaller now. They are extremely asymmetrical, narrower/more angular, and now a newly formed skin fold exists over the inner corner of my left eye, causing a wrinkle that did existed before. I am not expecting perfection, but I do expect the surgeon to deliver what was agreed upon especially if it's being done on my FACE. - I asked for square shaped eyelid crease which he ok-ed but in reality blatantly disregarded and gave me oval shaped eyelid crease without my consent. - I asked him to remove excess skin which he also blatantly ignored - since he did not remove the excess skin, this caused excessive drooping over the crease he created and what looked like a roll of fat above my eyes. - I also underwent another operation during the same time which also did not go well, but I will not describe in this particular post. - He offered to fix my eyelids which I, in hopes of looking normal again and being naive to trust him again, agreed to, but of course the same issues STILL remain. - I went to two other asian surgeons in NYC to assess my eyes and they both agreed to the problems described above. It will cost almost $8k to get revision surgery to get this fixed if at all possible and more time off from work to recover. I trusted him with my body, my face, my identity but he exercised complete reckless abandonment of medical integrity. I cannot even look at myself in the mirror anymore and have developed debilitating anxiety from the trauma of all this that prevents me from engaging in social settings. This has been a nightmare that I cannot wait up from and every waking minute, I am haunted by what was done to me. I've gone to Dr. Kwan in the past and went to him again recently. I highly recommend him as he is an excellent surgeon and delivers great results. His prices are reasonable and he gives a good deal when you do multiple procedures. For his experience, expertise, skills and care, I feel my money is well spent. His staff are nice and very welcoming. His office is immaculate and spacious. The only improvement I would suggest is for Dr. Kwan to spend a little more time during face to face meetings. I like the fact that he is straightforward and honest and he tells you exactly what he will do and how to achieve the look. I did felt rushed during consultation and follow up. Hello everyone!! I had TWO surgeries by Dr. Kwan; the first in April 2009 and the second in November 2009. I had a breast augmentation and liposuction of my abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees and arms. I was VERY pleased with the results. I had liposuction from Dr. Howard Bellin in January of 2009 and he did a HORRIBLE JOB. He totally ignored my upper abdomen and created incredible waviness and distortion in my abdomen. Dr. Kwan CORRECTED his botched job. Dr, Kwan is an "in and out" type of surgeon. I went to Dr. Kwan for a Septorhinoplasty / Rhinoplasty and Genioplasty (chin implant) consultation after locating him on the internet during my research for NY plastic surgeons. He is double-board certified in facial plastic and located conveniently on the UES. The office staff very accommodating and filled all my needs and answered all my questions. I was referred to Dr. Kwan by a family friend. He came highly recommended. He performed a blepharoplasty on me at the end of last year. Once healed, I noticed there was a slight mismatch between my eyelids, so I came back to see what could be done. It was a minor patch-up and he fixed it gratis, and on short notice. Translation as per my mother: "I was looking to get rid of my cesarean and stretch marks. However, Dr Kwan made the mark even larger and darker. Dr. Kwan told me to wait for several months in order for the skin it to heal, but the marks only became darker. So the doctor told me that I will have to do the procedure once more to really get rid of the marks and he told me to pay for the anesthetic ($2k) prior to my procedure/scheduled appointment. He had the nurse or assistant give me a peice of paper which she stated that if I signed, I would received my full refund. I then gave a three weeks notice to cancel the appointment and the office would not refund my money. I was super disappointed since they have not only ruined my skin but cheated and lied to me." Terrible bedside manner. Uncaring and not meticulous in his work. Thank god I only got temporary filler from him. He tried to sell me a brow lift and eyelid surgery and I'm glad I only did the filler to try him out. His office manager is a heavy set woman (not being mean just letting you know so you can spot her) who spent her time heating up her food in the microwave when I told her my exam room was too hot. I had to open the exam room door they were so cheap there was no AC. They put me in the back supply room on my second visit, very unprofessional for a Upper East side doctors office. My first visit though, I was put in his front room, the larger one. Don't be fooled. After my filler injection, he and his staff never told me to schedule a follow-up visit as is usual after a doctor performs a procedure. They also did not give me care instructions or what to expect. I had to look it all up online myself when I got home. My second visit I called in myself because I was concerned with the bumps on my nose. His front desk assistants are super sweet though. Good mask for what he really is - a terrible uncaring doctor out to make money. He is nice until after you pay. Then you are treated like chopped liver. My money is gone but I'd rather pay another doctor to fix his lumpy nose work than have him touch my face again. Money will come and go but your face is forever. Don't risk it. That's why his consultations are free. Beware and do your homework and see many doctors for consults before choosing. I wish I did that. I also wish I had seen this before I went to Dr Kwan. The way this victim described Dr. Kwan's personality is completely accurate. I'm glad I didn't have eye surgery with him. I understand no doctor is perfect. Dr Kwan has performed several procedures on me. Liposuction of abdomen was smooth, tapered around the sides all the way to the back, which made for a very nice result. Upper eyelid surgery came out beautifully, giving me a rejuvenated appearance. Several other minor procedures were done with little fuss. The most important surgery was excision of Basal Cell Cancer from the nostril. He removed the lesion conservatively so as not to deform the nostril, and went back in six weeks to remove the rest, with cancer-free results and I still have a beautiful nose. read more

He never took time with patient. He tries to take as many patients possible to make the most money. You can be a lucky one or be a victim. He was so rushed on my surgery since another surgery was scheduled right after me. My surgery went terribly wrong. My cheekbone looks even bigger than before and my right and left side is totally different. And cheekbone is sticking out one one side. Dark grey bruise never goes away. I did my jaw bow reduction, chin implant and face lipo with Dr kwan 2 days ago. I was originally hoping to have those procedures done in Korean til I found him. After seeing those "before&after" photos I realized I really like his style so I made an appointment with him. The front desk girls are nice and the manager is sweet too. Their price is really reasonable for me( comparing to flying to Korean, hotel and ticket fee etc) I paid 14000 for everything which I was expected to be higher. I don't agree with those people who said he had a really bad bed side manner and not patient enough when consulting. I think he is that kind of person who answers your questions straight ahead and does not speak much. I had done a few procedures during the last 5 years with several doctors and visited many doctors offices and trust me: a lot of the doctor are acting super nice and flattering you but they are really not that professional. Dr kwan will tell you what exactly he can do and what he can not.(which may make you disappointed if you are expecting a lot , but cosmetic surgery is not magic) I was also considering a cheek bone reduction but he refused cuz he did not believe that I need a cheek bone reduction. I was so thankful cuz I had the experience in which other doctors are trying to sell me every single procedure they have. There was no pain during the surgery and I was able to go back home after. Though the swelling is super annoying but I know that's normal. Today I had my dressing taken off and I noticed that my jaw bone is gone! It's very upsetting that I went to Dr Kwan for a jaw reduction to remove muscle from my face in hopes it would help my teeth grinding. I know that Dr Kwan is not a dental surgeon but he is did assure me that it would work. Not only do I still grind my teeth, I was left with scarring around my mouth and was told by Dr Kwan that it was a bruise. Seven months after my procedure and I have brown spot on my lip that I couldn't even cover up. I had to go to another plastic surgeon and paid $450 to have it removed and they laughed when I told them he said it was a bruise. I did everything Dr Kwan said I waited the amount of time he told me to wait to see if it would go away and I didn't ..very disappointing. We made the appointment and waited too long hours in his office then he said that " I am sorry, We don't accept your insurance, We can't remove his stitch here. I said what I am gonna do right now. I am a regular patient of Dr. Kwan; have had a major surgery done with him last year and have been seeing him for various consultant and treatments. I went to Dr. Kwan today for a juvederm filler. Even it is just a small procedure, Dr. Kwan spent a fair amount of time on me, very patient to listen to my needs, and give advices. The area of treatment is very tricky (between eyebrows) with lots of blood vein and nerves, and requires high precision. He managed it so well, and after injection, he used ice pack and hold pressure on it to shape it. The outcome was perfect, looks very smooth and natural, exactly what I wanted. Based on my several years experience with Dr. Kwan, I highly trust and am confident in having procedures with him, whether it is big surgery or just a small filler. He indeed has the knowledge, experience and practical skill in what he does; to help patients bring out their beauty. A few years ago, Dr. Kwan did the double eyelid procedure 3 times on me, all to no success (and I was charged for all revisions). The eyes are uneven and always look swollen. He also did my nose which looks NO different at all. It's not the best feeling to pay 3,500 for a nose that looks the same as it did before but feels like it's been messed with. I constantly feel the tip of my nose shift around. That feels like more of a waste than the eyes. Going through your early 20s like this is awful. I feel even worse that my parents were so willing to pay for these procedures that turned out so terribly. I'm currently saving up to get the eyes fixed (not by him) and to pay my parents back for these procedures that ended up being a money pit. Though he is ALWAYS in a rush (in and out of the room even during consultation), he was nice enough in the beginning. Allowing for 2 or even 3 consultations (actually 2, and 3rd was just for payment but I asked to see him and they let me). But after the surgery, for whenever I called or went in for a meet to discuss what's going on with the recovery and etc, he was dismissive and barely there for 3 minutes for each meet. I mean, I travel like 3hrs (both ways) to meet him, and he can't even spend 5~10mins with me?? Ugh. Absolutely do not go see this doctor. Just find anyone else. If you go, he is charming and is pretty flashy and seems trustworthy, which is what got me to go ahead and use him for the surgery. Bad idea. Someone mentioned he gives free consults -- but they charged 250. He did two small surgeries (quick mole removals). Both were mishandled and both left me with scars due to rush. One scar is about 10 times the size of the mole. He charged 5K without ever giving an estimate. My insurance paid it, but there is no way that seeing him for 30 minutes to remove 2 moles smaller than a pencil tip should cost 5K. There was an issue with one of the incisions due to haste, and he wouldn't see me to fix it for a week, so I had an open wound for that time. In addition, he had forgot that a couple days earlier he cut me somewhere (to remove a mole) and he started sticking his finger in the wound asking what that was. I had to remind him that earlier in the week he had created what he was sticking his finger in. read more

Dr. Kwan did a breast reduction for me 11 yrs ago. his work was amazing n i was very pleased. since then i had 2 children n of course im 11 yrs older now as well lol. my tummy was way out of control n i wanted a tummy tuck so why not go back to Dr. Kwan right?? EVEN THOU HIS BED SIDE MANNER R HORRIBLE.. he literally walks out on u as u r speaking to him. anyway i had my TT done 6/20/2013.. at first i was in loveeeeeee cause i seen other TT on youtube n they did not look as good as mine.. well so i thought!!! until my swelling went down n i had a flat tummy with LOVE HANDLES :((( um he supposedly did lipo suction so why the love handles after a month??? i was dieting n excercising cause i did jus spend 8 thousand dollars. today 8/19/2013 1 day to being 2 months post op i went to see him n show him my love handles.
