Baseball Field, Home Plate to Right Field
    Gregory S.

Summary, John Thurman Field is a good place to enjoy a Minor League Baseball game. Be aware that it can be uncomfortably hot for the first few innings of an evening game. There are plenty of near by, reasonably priced restaurants to get a good meal before the game. It has been nearly two years since we were last at John Thurman Field. This time we sat in seats high in Section 204 and low, at field level, in Section 107. High in Section 204 was excellent for a hot Sunday evening game because it was about the only place that had shade at 6 PM. Right Field Bleachers were the next to have shade. Being high gives you a good view of the entire field. You can also see just how close a 95mph inside fast ball gets to the batter and how little time a batter has to avoid it. Section 107 is behind the Visiting Team Dugout. It is almost like being on the field but protected by a net from line drive foul balls. There are a few negatives. Modesto can be hot during baseball season. The two games we attended the temperate at game time was over 90F. Concessions are ball park poor. Corn dogs were warm and far from crispy. I do not know what they do to the 7 UP but it did not taste like 7 UP. Cheeseburger Basket could be so much better. The cheeseburger was ok. The fries were barely warm and limp. The more they cooled off the less eatable they became. Popcorn was stale. As I noted in a review two years ago, the water fountains barely work. Do not let the negatives keep you from enjoying a Minor League Baseball game.

I love the Modesto nuts I know the stadium is old and it gets hot at the games but the food is good and the mascot are designed well and I love it.

At least the game was good.

Last night my wife and I returned to JTF for the first time in a long time, and saw many differences. These are the focus on my review. First, we were with a special group that had sold tickets and were to be seated together in a designated section. As there was no guidance on the tickets, and since JTF owned the section we would be sitting in, we asked the gate attendant. After having to repeat the spelling of my name 3x (it was also on the ticket printout we handed her) she indicated that she had no idea of what we were talking about. She failed to radio/contact a supervisor to help us. Next, we decided to stop by the snack bar and pick up two burgers and were told that they don't sell them without a package deal (Burger/fries/drink). $15/each with poor quality on the fries and burger. Of course, when we asked for cheese burgers, the counter person disappeared for a while and came back to tell us that the cheese had not had time to melt on one of the burgers and seemed quite confused on what to do. All the while we had people reaching around us and between us to get the condiments which were, you guessed it, placed between us and the person waiting on us. The lines on either sides of us waited on many folks while we were stuck with our struggler. It appears that they don't really have a system. I have been to many ballparks over this years, including this one, why was this such a hassle? Is this the "new and improved" method? Finally, to relive the staffer of what to do when cheese won't melt instantly on a burger that had been sitting in a warmer for who knows how long (or so it tasted) I told her to not worry about it and just give it to me as is (how did I ever survive decades of BBQs where you tossed the cheese on at the end and ate it?) Balancing our two meals ($30+ for about $5 worth of quality and service) we found some seats and began eating. Fortunately a couple of the members of our group walked by and told us where the group was (why did the person on the gate not know this, she was getting paid, or why was this not on the tix?) Anyway, we finished our food, found our group and enjoyed the game and comradery. The staff of JTF didn't miss the opportunity to send by someone to take seat orders and deliver food, a good touch. All and all it was nearly an $80 evening, and as I can hang out with these same folks at other events, perhaps not one I will do again any time soon. BTW, the home team won! Go Nuts!

An intimate setting for minor league baseball. Plenty of concessions featuring lobster roll sandwiches, BBQ ribs, mojitos and also your usual ballpark fare. Sit up close to the action for their most expensive ticket price, $10. Take the kids out and let them play on the playground in right field when they get antsy or test their arm with the speed pitch.John Thurman Field provides alot for everybody.

There is a strict bag policy so be sure to read up on it if you are taking in an event so as not to delay your entry. Going through security is easy enough, voth security. And the ticket scanner/door workers are always pleasant and efficient in processing you into the arena. Both the draft party, and summer league were informal, so most tickets were general admission and your were free to sit almost anywhere(barring the first 3 or 4 rows). (The draft party initially only had 5-7 sections open , but as the crowd grew closer to draft, more sections were opened . There were a few basic concessions open, for water, beer, hot dogs, chicken fingers, pizza, and a few of the other stands. Not all concessions that are normally open for concerts or regular season games were open, but was able to get chicken strips that were pretty good in quantity, and quality with fries and a beer. All in all, was a fun time, and a nice arena.

They have a good set up for merch and food and have an easy entrance process. There is also a large parking garage next to the arena that I believe is theirs and the walk from the garage to the arena is a pretty short walk. They demanded I unzip my clear see through bag). The low score is: Restrooms not well maintained. Some of them didn't have soap in the soap dispenser. Some didn't have paper towels. And this was on Saturday right around opening of Stockton con. Food. Decided to get food Sunday (2 day event) at 1pm. How do you already run out of pork slider. Pizza not ready for 20+ minutes. A picture of chicken tenders but it's not on the menu. I got pretzel cheese and fries. Stale and have been sitting there for a bit. And the cheese sauce. They almost didn't have any. The staff opened up the machine and squeezed out the cheese. Really really disappointing. How does your food taste worse than those hot dog people outside who are as unsanitary as they come? Better off just using a microwave. I would've been happier.

We paid $20 for the adventure. I heard, there were end of season and other discounts, but all good here. Lots of young families and children, in attendance. Very cute to see the fans. Our second row, middle field seats, were perfect to watch the game. Food like loaded bake potatoes, bags of popcorn, and deep fried snacks were all available, at the many concession stands. Beer and beverages are available, too: but all items must be purchased on site. You are not allowed, to bring any such items in with you. Dress in layers, because the fog came in and was damp. The 2 hour game was fabulous, even though our team lost. The big screen monitor did replays, on goal shots and such. My first, but not last, visit here! Enjoy!

We welcome our visiting opponents with open arms and smiles. Super Fan is a staple of our club. Just look for his smiley face greeting all the passerby's. The chants are catchy and we are making more as we get situated. We welcome suggestions from all. The club owners Frank Yallop, Ray Beshoff and their leadership team has listened and addressed the concerns of the supports/fans and visitors. The upscale portapotties and live music are amazing. The stadium is open 2 hours before each game since tailgating is prohibited. If there is a band or live music it opens 3 hours before. Stadium food has stadium prices. Try the churros, nachos, potatoes and Tri tip sandwiches. Those are my favorites but all is good. The hot chocolate/coffee and tea stand outside is nice but a warning if you buy during half time go before the buzzer, I waited literally 30 minutes and missed most of the second half waiting in line and for my order. Alvarado brewery sells hot chit chocolate but not during that one game which I was sad. On a cold day.. a cold beer just does not cut it. Alvarado brewery has some good beer great selections try the mai tai if you like sours. To all that is visiting or just interested in soccer check out this stadium. You won't regret it!

My travel companions are national park people first but baseball aficionados second and they're on a quest to visit as many ballparks as possible. I happily tagged along for this Single-A game, and to my surprise, I absolutely loved it!!! This ballpark is tiny and cute with a cozy feel that makes you feel close to the action no matter where you sit. We even found free street parking just steps away which I would consider a small miracle compared to bigger stadiums. Since we arrived early, one of my friends and I ended up participating in not one but two of the in-between-innings promos and competitions. Did I want to be on the Jumbotron? Not exactly... but when in Stockton, right? I even won a trivia contest and walked away with an adorable little bear which I brought home to give to my friend's son. To top it off, one of my friends got me a baseball for my travel collection and he also gave me the t-shirt he got after winning a blackjack promo, beating the dealer. It was all so fun and silly in the best way. This is definitely a small-town baseball magic that made the whole experience memorable. I think the Ports ended up losing, but oh well! Between the friendly crowd, the quirky promos, and the charm of such a small, intimate ballpark, it was a delightful day. I'm genuinely glad I went and I'd happily come back for another game here!

This was my first time at Circus Vargas and I have to say I would definitely go again if I could! I was totally amazed at this performance! If you haven't been, you truly do not know what you are missing. Parking was free which was a great plus! I found tickets off Groupon and paid $16 for bleacher seating. It was $22 for arena seating but to be honest I was as close as I wanted to be. There were some incredible performances such as the motorcycle in cage, juggling and the acts like the illusions. The performance was totally age appropriate. I heard a family near me state that they thought there was going to be animals and I was surprised not to see any as well but the performance definitely made up for it. I could definitely tell that the performers and entertainers really worked their butts off to make this a great entertaining show. I didn't see any mistakes or mess ups. The entertainers are VERY talented and you can truly see that they love their job and take pride in their performances. FOOD: They do serve popcorn and cotton candy. The prices seemed a little steep for me but I expected that. Cotton Candy was $5 and the small popcorn is $6 and Hot Dogs for $6. They also have pictures that you can take with the performers which cost $15 and although this didn't seem like a big hit, I thought it was a great idea.
