This location is on the smaller side and it has not been renovated recently so looks outdated. You can drop off donations in the back of the building. This location is generally pretty clean/organized. There are multiple fitting rooms to try stuff on and the staff is friendly. There are shopping carts available but the aisles are fairly small so I tend to not grab one unless I'm finding a lot of treasures! When I first visited this location I wasn't very impressed with their inventory but the more I go the more it is becoming one of my favorite locations in the area. Goodwill has recently changed their tagging/pricing system so items that are for sale are individually priced and tagged with a barcode label. I've noticed that this makes it easier to find items that are the "Color of the Week" and 50% off. On Mondays they also make the previous weeks' sale items $1 as a last ditch effort to get them sold. The new barcodes also make it easier for the cashiers to ring up your items. The only con I've experienced with it so far was a few items being mistagged as the wrong categories. Overall I would recommend this location to others who enjoy the hunt of the thrift. Don't judge a book by its covers, you can find some good stuff in here!

My experience with Judeo has been through meals being served in their on site dining hall. Today I was with Girl Scout Troop 13 which my daughter is a member. They prepared and served chili, cornbread, salad and a dessert to around 50 men, women and even a few children. The residents and walk-ins showed their appreciation. The organization started in 1986 due to a growing need to serve meals to the homeless. Christian groups pulled together a daily meal that soon expanded. In 1990 with private funds a property was purchased to operate a food kitchen dining hall named after Frank Bragg an early supporter of the mission. Later resident quarters were added. They now have partners like the Girl Scouts and religious organizations that total over a hundred. The partners assist with serving 86,000 FREE meals 365 days a year. The JCOC also operates a food pantry and food box program for at risk homeless to receive free groceries. There are 50 residents that reside short term on the campus. There other facility on West Lane offers a transitional housing program for 16 veterans and 8 chronically homeless with a disability. The JCOC offers a second chance to people in crisis. They provide individual and group counseling, employment services, financial assistance and housing assistance and educational resources. The mission "to empower homeless families and individuals to recover from crisis situations and and return to being self supportive, productive and independent members of our community". A few negatives to keep it real. The campus could use a sprucing up and parking is almost non-existent. Non residents also are seen across the street camping out in a vacant lot. The city does not run them off and as far as I know they are not causing any problems, but it is an eye sore. If you are able to help in any capacity through your church, or directly reaching out you are helping the local Virgina Beach community. They accept cash donations through their website as well at jcoc@jcoc.org

They accept non-perishable food items and other kitchen supplies for their food pantry, kitchen and dining hall. They also accept gently used clothes, shoes and other household donations. JCOC serves breakfast and dinner everyday to the needy and homeless people of the community. Sometimes, these breakfasts and dinners are prepared by different volunteers and organizations. They also have a building at the premise where they house limited number of needy people. Overall, I think JCOC is doing a good job of providing food and other services to the needy people of our community.

This location is known as the geriatric YMCA as many members are retired and older. What is really needed is most likely not in the budget. They need significant upgrades, or best yet a complete new build out and expansion serving the Hilltop community. Parking is often an issue close, but there is a nearby lot. Most of my experience is with their five lane pool. It's maintained to minimum standards. Guards are on duty. They keep the deck for the most part clean. The chlorine is kept at correct levels when I have been there. It's just old and outdated. Hampton Roads has a severe pool shortage, so this is better than nothing. The locker rooms severely lack basics. This location does offer considerable green space which is unique. They have soccer and other youth sports for daycare. During the Summer the fiend is very active with programing. I hope that 2020 brings plans to do something with the Hilltop YMCA. There is a lot of competition that does the exact same thing in the general area. They need to act on doing anything to help this center. 2.5 rounding down.

At Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, there are several locations where you can volunteer. Just knowing that these families are being helped is a reward with in itself, and I appreciate organizations like this one. I'm going to make a commitment to volunteer more often like I used to in the past. It's been about a few days of volunteering, and I personally love the Young Terrace location. There's enough space to move around, and the guests (community) are grateful and very respectful. I've assisted with stocking and food distribution, but would love to see what's behind the scenes. Overall, if you want to give back to the community and feel amazing, check out a few locations, one may be real close to you. Sidenote: For those picking up food, there is a limit for each food category (canned goods, chicken, eggs, etc). You can have a bag full of produce. Quality is in good condition and some almost going bad, but you choose at your own discretion.

However, I got a group from my daughter's school to volunteer. Once again, everything from beginning to end was organized and social distancing protocols were in place. Highly recommend volunteering at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. It's fun, safe, and helps those less fortunate. Win win!

This statue is situated at the 25th street entrance to the beach, right next to the Naval Aviation…read moreMonument. There's a statue of a Norwegian standing next a Norwegian flag. There are few plagues attached to the base of the statue recognizing the contribution of people of Moss, Norway. There's a separate stone plaque that also highlights the history and relation of Moss, Norway and Virginia Beach. It refers to both cities as "Sister Cities". This historical spot doesn't get much attention as most of the visitors quickly walk past it to enter the beach. There's no big signs. The plaques also engraved in same color as the background, making it difficult to read. I also noticed sketchy people lurking around the area.

The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price depending on what is going on and the season. The 9 foot statue of the Norwegian Lady is a bronze replica of a wooden figurehead that washed ashore after the fatal wreck of the Norwegian ship, "Dictator", in 1891 after a heavy storm. The figure head stood at the oceanfront as a memorial for sixty years before being gifted to Virginia Beach by Norway in 1962, to commemorate the tragic loss. The statue is placed on a granite pedestal that has two bronze plaques on them and overlooks the Boardwalk and the ocean. One of the statue's plaques is wishing sailors a "safe return home". It is a nice little plaza area that has benches in a u-shape on each side of the statue. There is also granite panels with a description of what happened in 1891 and another which talks about the "Sister Cities", Oslo, Norway and Virginia Beach. The Naval Aviation Monument is right behind the monument along the street and it would be best and most efficient to add that to your itinerary when your visit here.
