It's all about breaking the resistance down slowly over time. Drip effect, folks. They've been indoctrinated without even realizing it and suddenly the whole family is in the car on their way to see a sweet Husky girl. Who of course is already adopted when you get there. And of course your son falls in love with a handsome pit bull who OF COURSE you take home instead. This is the cheapest animal I've ever adopted, and he came neutered, microchipped, tagged, vaccinated, and checked for food and toy aggression. Moreover, he's been the best friend for our son for a year now. Maybe they could have warned us that he's a bed hog, though!

I was told I was the third applicant and that I would be contacted if the first 2 applicants were no longer interested. I received an email that the cat was available and asked me if I was still interested. I sent 4 emails and left 1 voice message the same day. 2 days later I sent a fifth email and received a short reply that the cat was given to someone else. Should you apply for a cat or dog, sure, but expect the shelter to play some games with you. I was a longtime foster with NACC and have donated for years. I'll be taking my business elsewhere since they can't be decent enough to respect my time.

They recently hosted an Easter egg hunt for dogs, and it was honestly such a fun and creative experience. They had been promoting it everywhere -- in-store, online, and at other events -- so I was actually a little surprised more people didn't come out, because this is definitely one of those events you don't want to miss. They hid little "eggs" throughout the store in small cups for the dogs to sniff out, which was such a cute and thoughtful idea. Inside were all-natural freeze-dried treats, and I have to say, they actually had a really good selection. Lexi had six to find, and watching her go around searching (with a little help from me ) was so much fun. What I also loved is that they made it fun for the pet parents too. They had a little cookie tray for the adults, along with sodas and candy, which was such a nice touch and made it feel even more welcoming and well thought out. And to make it even better -- Lexi ended up being the big winner of the night and won a $25 gift card, which made it even more exciting! One thing I really appreciate about Care-A-Lot is that they consistently put together events like this for the community. They do really fun seasonal events (their dog-friendly Halloween events are always a favorite too), and I would honestly hate for people to miss out on them because they truly put effort into making them special. If you have a dog, it's definitely worth checking their website and event schedule so you don't miss the next one. Beyond the events, the store itself is always a great experience. It's clean, well laid out, and easy to shop, and the staff is always friendly, pleasant, and helpful. I've even used their self-service dog wash station, and that was a great experience too -- very clean, very convenient, and the employees were super helpful. The Norfolk SPCA's Adoption Center is the best of the best. It's a private, nonprofit center that's…read morenot affiliated with the City of Norfolk. Founded in 1892 the SPCA is one of the oldest in the country. Originally formed because of concerns about mistreatment of working animals, it has evolved over the years. It now shelters, treats, rehabilitates & rehomes companion animals throughout Costal Virginia. A network of volunteers serve as foster families for animals that need to be socialized. One thing so wonderful is their love and understanding. If dogs or cats are a bonded pair, they will only rehome them together. Before adoption the pet in search of a forever home is spayed/neutered, receives all veterinary care needed, including vaccinations and testing. A part of the nationwide Best Friends Network, Norfolk SPCA is a No Kill shelter. My companion dogs & cats aren't pets, they are my children. A deep bond of love and care exists. All companion animals deserve this type of love and forever care. Norfolk SPCA exists only because of donations. I've donated before. I'm going to donate again in memory of my precious Lillie.

The staff at the front of the clinic have got to be the most incompetent I've ever interacted with…read more I've had multiple pets in the past and took and took them to a private clinic. But now, my income has plummeted and I am forced to go to the SPCA. Each time I've been there has been pretty awful...having to wait for two hours in a cold vehicle for a buzzer to go off, and one time it did not go off, so much fun that was! The last time I went it was to pick up heartworm preventative; I had been there before to pick some up with no problem but this time I was told I had to bring my puppy in, even though I didn't have to before. So, I wasted most of my morning running back and forth to the SPCA. And one of the staff lied to the manager about something I said and it made no sense. She was rude, ignorant, and incompetent. She also stated that I could go to another clinic, but I told her I can't afford a private clinic. I guess if you're cheaper, you can expect stupidity and incompetence? She then said something about another SPCA but my vehicle is 26 years old and I don't drive it too far. Lastly, she complained that they serve a lot of people but I though, again, that doesn't mean people have to be incompetent, does it? If I had been the manager, she would have been fired.

I've done plenty of research online, but this was my first time going to look at birds in person. Seeing this was a family run business, I decided to bring my business here rather than a big box store. Big mistake. Almost everyone working seemed to be stuck up teenagers and young adults. My family was in the store for about 30 min and not a single employee offered any assistance. Not even a simple hello. The bird section was absolute chaos. There's TONS of birds jammed into a small corner of the store which seems to be, by far, their most popular animal. The aisles are cramped and it's hard to hear anything with all the birds chirping away. There were 2 employees feeding/ tending to birds. They were pretty much ignoring everyone. I tried to ask a few questions about different species, yet I felt like an annoyance to them.. then I simply got told, if you're new to birds, just get a cockatiel. The guy wouldn't really give any information on any of the other species. I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need in my home before buying a bird, but it seems like they'd rather you just pay $$ now and quit bothering them. There's a bunch of signs up saying NO PICTURES everywhere. It felt like a prison with the wide variety of threatening signs all over the place. I did notice the cages seemed very over priced. An A&E cage I saw on Chewy for $300 was marked up to like $700 in there. The cockatiels were a couple hundred dollars more than Pet Smart. I wanted to avoid going to somewhere like Pet Smart or Petco to get a pet bird, but after this experience, I'll just take my business there. At least they have employees that seem like they care about helping customers. It's a shame to see a local business that can't provide better service than corporate big box stores. If it wasn't for your exorbitant prices, I suspect you'd be out of business by now.

Fails to even identify whom she is states Oh no you cant hold it, but you can pet it. So let me get this straight as a potential customer I cant hold an animal I'm potentially interested in?? So how many people go to buy a car and just purchase it right off the lot, no test drive? I'll wait... My point is every time I come into Pet Paradise I'm being told oh you can pet the bunnies or the ferrets but you cant hold them. Mind you I've seen "others," allowed to do just that. I've owned every animal mentioned previously in my 40+ years but it appears only certain people have the privilege here to actually interact with potential furbabies. Whelp they say word of mouth is the best form of marketing so figured I'd put the word out because it's a reoccurring theme I'm quite tired of and figured I'd let folks know about the fickle behavior of oh peep this the supposed manager who "Can Do what she wants," as I was told by the young lady behind the counter. Hair still all in her eyes. Still charged close to $100. Yes she likes to sit...she is 14 years old. She has earned the opportunity to sit. Yes she probably shakes but so do many dogs at the groomer. She is in no way aggressive. I preferred the original groomer in the store that she has always had who has had no trouble with her. We have had many dogs over the years including two others right now. This dog is by far the easiest dog we have to groom. I do it at home myself with no huge issues except my back can't handle it any longer. Had I seen the grooming prior to paying I would not have paid. Totally not worth it. I could have done that grooming myself in 30 minutes. They have lost customer.

Purrrr-fect first visit!…read more I decided to pop in with my senior Dad for a visit while we possibly think of adopting a cat. We did not have a reservation and since it was a Tuesday and they were not busy, we were able to do so. We opted for the 30 minutes visit which was $10/pp. The employee who was working and caring for the cats was very nice and super informative. We asked lots of questions about the cats and the business itself. She was knowledgeable and helpful with all of our questions. They currently have 23 cats in residence. The Catnip Cat Cafe is spacious and clean. The cats are not confined and have free roam of the entire space with lots of toys and places to sleep. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely return. There is complementary coffee/ tea as well.
