Hello anyone who reads these reviews. Ive had chronic and Progressive Musculoskeletal Issues and problems since being in the Infantry Marines for several years. I've only seen 3 pain management Doctors/facilities over the last 25 years and have been a patient of this facility and Glen for about a year. He is very helpful, actually listens and recommends all available courses of treatment. Glad to have found them here after my last Pain Management retired. read more

This place is terrible. They don't process prescriptions, don't answer phone calls or messages. Make sure you get an appointment card and save it! They wont make the appointment like you discuss prior to leaving. Dr Glen is but his staff is terrible. Incompetent. read more

The practice has been reconfigured or merged 2-3 times in the last 18 months. That's neither good nor bad. I've been taken care of at the Ruffin Road office for the last year. Physician's Assistant Glen is a pleasure to work with. Also, he stays on time and on schedule, which I appreciate The televisits have not gone well half the time. In fact, I've given up on them and have switched back to in-person monthly visits. The biggest improvement needs to come in telephone services. In spite of having 5-6 non physician staff there, THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE! Instead, you just get a recorded message and a promise that they'll get back to you in 24-48 hours! Sorry, but that's not good enough. The Ruffin Road office is very nice in a beautiful building with good parking. I'm giving the practice 3 stars for now. Will upgrade to 4 stars when the practice hires and trains better support staff. read more

I've seen so many doctors and PAs over the years, who've always spent almost every visit grilling me about my medications and my pain level, so it's nice to have someone who listens and really cares about my well being. Dr Cohen is amazing however the staff makes going here so frustrating. It's impossible to get anyone on the phone. They claim to offer text service but never respond. On multiple occasions they've failed to get prior authorization from insurance and end up having to reschedule my apt the day of.. even after it's been booked for over a month. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. They usually call you the day before your procedure to cancel your appointment. This happened to me 3 times too many. The first doctor Katzen messed up the procedure and I now have nerve damage. Dr. Cohen is a good doctor if he ever shows up. Good luck. read more

I went to the Chula Vista business dba California Pain Specialists. I saw their staff 3 times. Each office visit was over $1000. They were unable to treat me, provided little information to assist me in my pain management, and then failed to bill my insurance correctly. I have been diligently trying to resolve this issue but instead of answering a simple question ("Did you bill BOTH of my insurance carriers?"), I receive a call from their billing service asking "will you please pay your balance due." LOUSY service, POOR communications, LACK OF follow up. read more

My wife has been a patient of this pain management practice for the last five months. In this span of time, EVERY single time she needs her prescription filled, there's been some issue. Ranging from the prescription not being faxed over to our pharmacy, or not being filled at all. Exacerbating the issue, no one at these offices answers the phones. You usually have to leave a voice mail wherein the prompt says your call will be answered/resolved in a business day. No such luck. In the latest incident, my wife saw her pain management doctor and again was awaiting her prescription to be faxed. It was not. My wife had to call the office and leave messages on several instances and it is now almost over a week since she's been without her pain medicine. I finally drove out there today from Riverside (yes. a drive of over 70 miles) to ensure that I could interface with someone in person in order to get the issue resolved and finally get my wife's prescription faxed to our pharmacy. I spoke to May and Cece who stated that our pharmacy was updated and the prescription would be faxed. I thanked them and made the drive home through an hour and a half of traffic only to find out that the prescription had not been faxed! If you like being ignored, getting no help whatsoever, or just plain given false hope about your pain meds getting prescribed, then look no further. This is the clinic for you! read more

Update/ it's been over 7 weeks and I still have not been able to get in contact with the office or billing to issue a refund for overcharging me my copay when I met my benefits out of pocket. They refused to verify my $0 copay prior to my visit and said I could easily get refunded when my EOB was posted. And it has, and yet there is silence in their front returning calls. read more

Everything and everyone are very nice and no problems. They listen to you and are very helpful with everything.

The reception staff is wonderful and professionally. Glenn is my guy, he is almost always available if I need something and he is very caring and has a lot of empathy for his patients. He knew that I was having issues with my bowels and bladder and he was able to get me into a wonderful program that has actually taken care of the issues that I was having. The nursing staff in also very professional and very courteous to me. I have even been able to get my brother to see Glenn and I know that he is really happy with him as well. When I found out Dr Cohen was leaving his job I was so worried I would have to find a new pain doctor but that is not the case I can still see Dr Cohen at his new office and I couldn't be happier! The office is clean, the front desk staff is so helpful and Dr Cohen still gives me the best care. Before finding Dr Cohen I was suffering from chronic low back pain that prevented me from living a comfortable life. With the occasional low back epidural I am able to live a pain free life without any daily medications and I am so happy about that! Dr Cohen really cares for his patients. Their office is very busy but even with that I don't feel like a number he takes his time answering all my questions. As a pain management patient, I have found it difficult to find doctors since the fentanyl epidemic. The fentanyl altered with other drugs sold on the street is tragic! I have had a pain pump for 20 years. The primary medication is fentanyl. Because it is delivered slowly through a catheter it relieves the chronic pain but doesn't effect my brain. My former doctor and I were not a match. In fact I was flabbergasted that he chose pain management. His manner was robotic and detached. His communication skills were subpar. I never felt any compassion from him. I could continue my diatribe but I'd rather focus on the positive. I was relieved and grateful when I met my kind, gentle and knowledgeable doctor at California Pain Consultants. Her name is Dr. Ortiz: together with her PA Glenn , I felt so welcomed, so relieved. They listened patiently and Dr. Ortiz presented me with a cogent plan for my care. Honestly, it was like my prayers had been answered. Her manner was so sincere and empathetic, I wondered why I had allowed myself to be treated so poorly by my former doctor. I would not recommend Dr. Van Noord to anyone. It started with excellent customer service. The medical assistance at the front desk was very inviting and welcoming me into the office . The medical assistant that assisted me to the room she was absolutely amazing. She showed so much empathy and not sympathy. She made me feel very comfortable.. and when I met the doctor, he was very understanding about my situation and explained everything to me and ways how I could control the pain and live comfortable. read more

Dr. Cohen has saved my life . I had a bad botched back surgery, leaving me with three screws protruding through my spine. The pain was unbearable. Thanks to Dr. Cohen I have been able to enjoy my life, and I've been able to help take care of and enjoy two new grandbabies in our family. He is attentive, kind and wonderful bedside manner. Everything I bring up about my pain is addressed and not suger coated. If all your looking for is pain meds like opioids, this is not the place for you, if you're looking for MDs that care about you and your health then this is the place to try out. They treat all patients accordingly and the status of your issues . I like the way I feel being listened to and not so doped up. Yes opioids do help but if you can do without and care more about your overall health and not a band aid for 4 hours come here where they care. FYI PA Manny would not be my first or second choice to have as my MD. read more

Since moving over to the Ruffin rd office with Glenn and the office staff there, I've had a wonderful experience. This review is long overdue, Glenn is truly one in a million, he is extremely knowledgable, kind, compassionate, professional and great at what he does. I've had a really difficult time with my chronic pain and evolving health conditions the past few years and Glenn has made it much more tolerable for me. He is empathetic, respectful, and consistently takes time to listen to and address my concerns without rushing me. He encourages me and truly cares for his patients. This is difficult to find in a provider these days, I whole heartedly appreciate him and the care he's provided me the past year I've been with him. The staff here are so professional, kind, and helpful. Special shout out to Amber, Fernanda, Mayra, TJ and the sweetest emotional support dogs in the office, you all make it feel very welcoming. They are only in business for money. They don't take the patients needs into consideration when dispensing their cookie cutter treatment. Regardless of whether you a very serious condition or you stubbed your toe, you get the same heartless treatment. They should be ashamed of the way they treat patients that are suffering from extreme pain documented by several doctors. I wouldn't let the treat a corpse. read more

After reading all of the reviews I was really hesitant to schedule an appointment but after speaking with Rolena I felt it would be worth a try. My first appointment was last Friday. Front office girl was helpful. I asked why there were so many negative reviews and she explained previous management issues. Fair enough. My interactions with back office staff was great, minor hiccup with prescription but that was due to insurance not any fault of office staff. I left a voicemail which was returned the same day and a new script was sent over quickly. I didn't experience any of the issues that were so prevalent in the reviews. I'm happy thus far. I was referred to this office but never got to see them because their billing department cannot do their job properly. The called me earlier this week to tell me the Dr. that I was referred to doesn't work there anymore, and that I needed to call my insurance to have them put a different doctor on the referral. I asked them why I was the one doing their job because in the past the doctor's office always calls the insurance company for any issue that might arise, not the patient. They told me that I had to do this or cancel the appointment. So, I called my insurance who in turn tells me that I have to call Sage Pain which is now called California Pain Consultants, and get a doctor name and NPI number. I call the doctors office again for the information, but they were already closed, so I left a message. No one returned my call within the 24 hrs, and I had to call back again after the 24 hrs was over. They then tell me that everything was alright and they would see me next Tuesday. (This happened yesterday). Then I receive another call today from their billing department telling me they were cancelling my appointment because now it shows that I am ineligible with the plan I'm on, but still eligible with Blue Shield. I said I have the authorization number, they said it didn't matter cause the plan I'm on says I'm ineligible. I ask who am I suppose to call to find out what is going on? They said they didn't know. What the....What do you mean you don't know? You are suppose to be the professional trained in this, and you don't know? You want me to do your job for you? So, I called the plan I'm on, which looked me up and it shows I'm eligible, and they don't know why this pain management group is saying I'm not. Needless to say, my insurance was going to call this pain management group to see what was going on, but instead I said I just need a different doctor to see, because if this company can't do their job properly enough to help their referrals then I don't think I want to see to them to help my back. So, I have called my referring physician to send me to a more competent doctor's office, who knows what the heck they are doing! It is really sad that this company cancels my appointment because their billing staff is incompetent at her job, and wants the patient to do it for her. Hey Sage Pain or California Pain people, since I had to do your billing offices job for them, you should pay me instead of them...and you lost a patient today that really needed you. I just hope no one else goes through what I have had to go through this week because of the incompetence of your billing staff! read more

I received excellent care at this pain clinic. Dr. Katzen is highly skilled, kind and gentle. I was fearful of the first procedure but the staff continuously reassured me and everything went smoothly. I'm not as afraid of the next procedure. I look forward to less pain in my back. read more
