Tucked in a little known area just off of Mack Dairy Road (north) from Indiantown Road, THE DYE as it is called, became what it is today around 2005 - 06 when a visionary took what was a semi-private golf track, brought Pete Dye in to oversee an entire overhaul of the course, and built a traditional Florida style golf clubhouse. From the front of the club you're not blown away by opulence,... but inside is a rich dark wood interior stem to stern. The dining room(s) are well appointed, locker rooms are outta sight. Pro shop and the practice areas are first class. And then there is THE DYE. This course is actually fun. Yes, fun! Having played The Players Course at Sawgrass, Long Cove on Hilton Head Island,... both Dye masterpieces of deception and brute strength, THE DYE is a gem. Ample fairways, bunkering that is sneaky but not overly penal. A lot of water but in most places where you shouldn't be hitting tee shots or second shots. The teeing grounds, fairways and greens are immaculate with the greens usually running about 10 - 11 on the stimp. Fair and fast. THE DYE is one course that every player should see if the invitation is extended. Love it!

Tee boxes are not cut on weekends. Bunkers are inconsistent throughout the course regarding sand content. The course has 5 different types of grass/weeds in the fairways and rough. This doesn't command an $85 green fee and additional for range balls. Zero tolerance for this course anymore. There are much better venues in the area for 1/2 to 1/3 the price.

I've played here for several years but the place has hit an all-time low in quality while…read moresimultaneously raising their prices by 75%. That's not a typo - up until one month ago the greens fees with a cart were around $30. Now they're $52 - $55 and the course is in terrible shape. We've always put up with traps without sand and greens with bare spots because it was $30. Yesterday the greens were entirely brown after the maintenance crew did a half-assed job of aerating the greens two weeks prior without filling the holes with sand and then mowing it down to the nubs. It's an absolute joke to call them greens. And the geniuses who decided that hiring a marketing firm and raising prices would put them on par with the real golf courses in the area decided that a no-walking policy on weekends until after 3:00 pm would also be a good idea. It's obvious the government operates this course because there's no business sense behind any of their decisions. The photo is the ninth "green" identified only because there's a hole with a flag in it.

From what I've gathered the course has been here for a while (formerly Sandpiper Bay, or something like that), was closed/abandoned for some period of time, and a new management company brought it back to life last year. It still needs some time for the grass to grow and beef up in some places, and it's not as refined as Augusta National; but, if you haven't played in a while, have a group of friends who need to knock the rust off, or even want to play with a group of newbies, Trident is the place to come. What really sets him apart is that he has zero brand bias, he isn't tied to any specific manufacturer, so you get a truly honest fitting experience. I was able to test everything from Titleist to TaylorMade and more. After carefully analyzing my swing and ball flight, Mike dialed me into the perfect setup the Ping G440K. The difference in ball speed, spin, and consistency was immediate. The numbers didn't lie. My only regret is not doing this years ago. If you care about your game at all, go see Mike. I'll be sending all my golf buddies his way.
