Empanadas are delicious but my complaint is on the pricing/additional charges. I came in and got the lunch special which clearly states it's $15.95 and it includes a canned drink. Ok so I order and when the employee asks me what I want to drink I asked what my canned options were, he listed them to me and I picked the inka cola which he mentioned. When I go to pay my total was $18.83 which seemed higher to me. When I got my receipt I noticed I was charged an additional $1.25 for my drink. When I asked the employee he said inka cola is an additional cost and I asked why when the lunch combo said a canned drink is included, I also asked him what my drink options were and he said inka cola without any mention it was an additional up charge?? The menu also lists inka cola under their canned drinks. I understand it's only $1.25 but it's the principle that you are charging people more without an explanation or clear information posted on your menu. This left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm disappointed. You should either tell people certain canned drinks are more expensive or only list the specific drinks are included in the $15.95 p read more

That's when it was a tiny little shop southeast from its new location in a small strip mall center. Likely due to popular demand, Johnny Pacific finally relocated only to be caddy corner to their former location in the Saticoy/Winnetka intersection. So it's literally walking distance crossing two major streets in the intersection. JP is known for its empanadas and they're delicious. I've only had them as a main course when going here. First, years ago I brought a few samples home to the family which were popular. These days, I'll go about once a month for a treat. I'm not a dietician or nutritionist but don't think the delicious doughy pockets with cheese and other items are the healthiest. But they are delicious and filling. I've had the two chicken empanada options, cheese and spinach. All have been amazing and delicious. They've had a lunch special with a small salad and a soda can. The salad is really limited to spring lettuce but with a dressing is delicious and light, a great complement to the empanadas. The restaurant is a order counter next to a chalkboard menu and tables. There's plenty of parking in the new center. Also, if you need something at Food 4 Less, you can hop on over. Not sorry about loving Johnny Pacific and its delicious food. But the food...!!! I tried the #1 combo with a beef tinga empanada. The skewers and rice were perfect and the salad was fresh. I tried the empanada last and was absolutely blown away by it. I am a culinary graduate with 30 years in the restaurant game. This empanada was perfection and the flavor outstanding. I have been coming here since about 2016 when I was a still a college student. This is the kind of food you continue to reflect on later in life. John makes the best empanadas in Los Angeles, hands down - indisputably. It might sound crazy that a surfer who learned recipes through travel holds this title, but you can taste his love and attention to detail with each bite you take. Also, I live farther away now and happened to be in the area today, so I stopped by. I just witnessed John find a customers wallet, attempt to call and look the customer up on Facebook to return the wallet to no success, and then proceed to leave the restaurant to drive to the owner's home to return the wallet. We ordered: 2x Chicken AL Pastor (2/5) 2x Beef Tinga (3/5) 1x Kailua Pig (4/5) 1x Beef (2/5) Needless to say my favorite was definitely the Kailua Pig. It was deliciously juicy with flavor and paired so well with the pie like crust. Very impressed with this flavor. Second flavor would be the Beef Tinga. This was recommended by the employee and she seemed confident. Not that impressed. The crust is was too thick and the pairing sauces needed to come into play for my taste buds! I am normally the person who over buys food and am left with a lot of left overs, so keep that in mind when I say every time I order food from here for a party I am left with nothing. The empanadas do last for quite a while, I get them well over an hour before everyone ate any and they were still nice and crispy. Many of my guest compliments the food (interesting note: the last party was for my son who is 4 and most his party was at 2 pm, most of the parents hardly ever eat at these birthday parties even when they happen at lunch so use that info as you will). I personally also like them as well, hard to say what one is my favorite as it can change with my mood but all are good so far. Would recommend to anyone for a party or just for yourself. read more

A few of my favorites are the spinach and cheese (#1 favorite), jalapeño bacon is absolutely incredible, The Al Pastor was incredible the tinga was amazing!!! I've been coming here for about 10+ years. I use to attend Sutter Middle School which is a few blocks down from it and I remember walking home from school and always stopping by to get empanadas. This place is not very spacious and the parking gets really tough sometimes. I love their empanada variety and their service is quick and friendly. I usually do take out because it gets really crowded and there's also no restrooms. Another concern was that the time I did dine it, I was sweating so much because the A/C wasn't on and it was super hot inside. I'm not sure if it was broken or they're used to it being that hot. I can't believe I've never written a review yet because I have been back here at least 10 times already. This is always one of my go to places I recommend to people if they're in the valley. I love all the empanadas, my favorites being the chorizo, ham and cheese, kailua pig, and al pastor. I love that they give a different sauce for each empanada but my absolute favorite is the garlic aioli. I wish I could get that in bulk. Besides the amazing empanadas, I could come here just for the french fries. They are thin and the perfect crispiness I could eat them forever. I would just like to say me and my boyfriend went here for lunch yesterday. I really loved these empanadas we got the beef yesterday and the employees are very friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed that if you asked for sauce they were generous with giving me and my boyfriend each like 3 different sauces to try. We tried the Chimichurri sauce, chipotle sauce, and the garlic aïoli sauce. All three of these sauces are great and completely different flavors but delicious. And they're even amazing without menagerie of dipping sauces, which are all also equally amazing. I wish I could be more specific or use adjectives other than "amazing," but it's just all one amazing blur. I was in the hood with work wife 0.5 doing some work. After some long hours of working we stumbled to Johnny Pacific for happy meal time. Johnny Pacific had a small shared parking lot. Parking was pretty hard so we parked on the other business lot on the Saticoy side. Since I don't know if that was allowed, do it at your own risk. We both ordered lunch combo that came with 2 choices of empanada, a drink, and 1/2 order of salad or fries. I picked kailua pig and beef tinga with fries. Work wife 0.5 ordered beef tinga and mushroom with salad. The beef tinga and kailua pork were very good, but it didn't blow me away, especially with the size it came with. Truly if it wasn't for the fries, I would still be pretty hungry after just two empanadas. I also found the empanada dipping sauce unnecessary since the empanada was flavorful already. With $2.85 a piece, I felt it was a little over priced. The restaurant was small and cozy, the counter order was friendly. I would go back for sure but not more than once a year. read more

Honestly SO disappointed. We used to love this place but the last time we ordered take out was the worst experience ever. We spent over $70 and the empanadas were too salty and the skewers were all burnt. Chicken skewers were dry and steak was chewy. I could say they were having a bad day because I know they're better than that but cmon now. Too much money spent for a hit or miss. If you're not gonna be consistent then we're gone.
