My husband and I sat outside on this beautiful morning and we enjoyed the view of Sumter Landing Square. We ordered breakfast sandwiches. Everyone was great and our waitress, Ashley, was friendly and efficient. She also remembered to check that we had everything that we needed as we dined. When you find a hair in your salad. I have all grey hair and this curly black one . You let the manager know. The manager said since I had eaten 1/2 he could only take off 1/2 the price. Since all the cooks are in the open. It was easy to see that not one of the three were not wearing hair or beard covers. Service was so so. Our waiter forgot about us sitting outside and kept apologizing that it was busy. But more importantly I was surprised that the food came with nothing. I ordered a Route 66 burger no bun. I basically got a slab of ground beef, cheese and onions and NOTHING else. Fries were 3$ extra. What's with this? The Villages, Sumpter Landing, Johnny Rockets really delivered... if the goal was disappointment. Now I understand why the place wasn't busy--apparently word has gotten out. The "malts" were more like samples, and no extra in the metal container like you'd expect--guess that's a premium feature now. The burgers were small and somehow managed to be both bland and forgettable. I ordered onion rings for $2.99 and received two--yes, two--rings, each about the size of a 50-cent piece. Impressive portion control. To top it off, two burgers weren't even made as ordered. Attention to detail clearly isn't on the menu. Overall I have a decent experience here. I hadn't been to a Johnny Rockets in a long time, so I wasn't totally sure what to expect. The inside was fun and nostalgic, but we sat outside on the nice patio that overlooked the square. I definitely recommend sitting on the patio vs. inside if you can. Our sever was very friendly and nice and even offered to have us move to another table because the one we were currently at was in a very windy spot. That was really nice and thoughtful! I got the Strawberry Oreo Crumble milkshake, which was very flavorful and enjoyable. For food I got the Smokehouse burger with sweet potato fries. Swung by here with friends for a quick dinner one evening before a show. The Good: 1) Good food 2) Fun Décor 3) Friendly, attentive service 4) Tater Tot portion was HUGE - whole big bowl of them and they tasted good. The Not So Good: 1) Expensive - for 2 hamburgers and an order of fries and water, we paid almost $40, including tip. That just seems excessive. 2) No gluten free buns available and they don't do lettuce wrap - I ordered without the bun and it was sitting on a single, thin piece of lettuce (for $11+). 3) Food does not include fries or sides, so those are extra. They seem to be known for their milkshakes, but I didn't get the chance to try one while I was there, but they have a large selection of those. Not sure I'll be rushing back. read more

Stopped in after 789's at the square last night for a bowl of chili, just needed a Lil Sumpin'~sumpin' in my tummy before bed and this hit the spot! Blake was my waiter and he was really nice and attentive. The crew was cleaning up yet still eager to serve when I came in which was much appreciated!! Ambiance was quiet as most people were still out on the square enjoying the music so I was seated and served immediately so major kudos on that! Every Jan 23 I honor my brother by having a hamburger, French fries, and a chocolate milk shake.... That was the menu the day he was born and dad took me out for breakfast; I was 6 years old. This year two of my kids were here visiting and they shared the tradition. We each ordered hamburger, milkshakes and we split a community fries. I ordered an $8 chili dog which barely had any chili on it and the bun and dog tasted as if they were left over from yesterday's menu. I couldn't believe that regular size dog was 8 bucks!! We showed up and approached the hostess stand to request an outside table and was granted our request.. she brought out menus and disappeared to serve food to others both inside and outside near us. She finally approached us and took our beverage order, which we had to order because we had a birthday coupon to get a free burger when something else of great value is purchased. Of course, the waitress tells us, we get a feee hamburger without fries or an equivalent price reduction of $6.00 on any item on the menus of food. This hit me as a bait and switch type of coupon, but we continued to place our order and wanted to eat here. There was a great band playing on the square across the street in the Villages gazebo, so the ambience is super. Food was presented to us and my wife, the birthday girl, had a mushroom Swiss burger with fries and I had a Cobb chicken salad and we split both to share. The bacon on the Cobb was very crispy, the tomato was irregularly sliced, the chicken was good, but the avocado was just shy of being on the edge, with deep brown spots on it. The previous owners ran the restaurant much better than it is now. White uniforms were always present. The place was always kept spotless, unfortunately as it is being run is in no way run for the benefit of Villagers. I can not imagine this present management to save this sinking ship. The servers look like they were hired simply to fill vacancies caused by former talented staff moving on. The back kitchen needs to be cleaned as well. After my last visit, I am determined to never visit again read more

We didn't dine in cause it was tiny bugs crawling in the table but I took it in consideration that we are in Florida with 80 degrees at 9pm. This is the best place to watch people (close to the sidewalk) and listen to the music at the Square! The Salad was not just Iceberg but Escarole, Bibb and well dressed with sliced hard boiled egg as garnish.
