We stopped by Darrel's Dog Gone Good Diner while traveling and picked up some takeout, everything was so yummy! We ordered the full stack of cinnamon swirl pancakes and two of the signature Sunrise Burgers, and both were absolutely delicious. The pancakes were fluffy and packed with flavor, and the burgers were juicy and satisfying. Since we're on the road, we forgot to bring cottage cheese for our dog, and luckily they had it on the menu, we were able to buy a pretty generous side for our pup, which we really appreciated. Great food and friendly service ! We'd definitely come back! The store didn't look too busy but it was pretty much closing time by the time we got there so we got lucky (3pm). Clean place, servers are super nice and work their fingers to the bone to make everything wonderful. The place is very popular with seniors and is full every day. Here's the beef, These restaurants depend entirely on the chefs, and at this place premium (I mean premium as the prices listed on the menu are CASH prices) prices and the chefs can't even cut up their lettuce properly for a salad! It's like they are simply too lazy to either dice or shred ANYTHING. My tuna salad came out today in chunks that I needed to cut up in order to fit them on a fork. Unacceptable! Whole onions thrown on top with cucumbers quarters and placed in the salad like apathy was the manager looking over their shoulder. Stick with carbs grilled offerings and you'll be fine but ANYTHING that requires vegetables or grilled vegetables; forget it. Bad idea. Premium prices and I have to prepare my food to eat when it arrives. That's bunk!! read more

Absolutely delicious! Recently moved to Fl and my sons and grands took me out to breakfast. The staff was amazing and very welcoming "Thank You!" I am post-op from surgery and on a restricted diet and was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of options available to someone in my circumstances. Tried the two egg, two meat sandwich minus the bread, and I really enjoyed my meal. Of course I couldn't eat it all but it was absolutely delicious. And the cup of hot tea topped it of for me! Thank you to the chef and the entire wait staff for the hospitality. The environment was very relaxing and enjoyed looking at all of the amazing photos of everyone's fur babies displayed on the walls with my grands. Stopped at their newly relocated place on 301. In a nutshell the food was awful. Wife had chef salad that was tasteless ($10.25) I had a grilled cheese and what they called "beef vegetable" soup. A friend and I decided to stop here for lunch after a doctors appointment in the villages and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the servers- we opted to sit outside and enjoy the weather and ordered cheeseburgers - I ordered mine rare with bacon, my friend ordered, medium, no bacon. The burgers were not the pre-frozen molded patty that you normally get. These were made in house and it has to be one of the best burgers (flavor-wise) I've had in a long time. It is a very dog friendly restaurant and I understand they're noted for their breakfasts, so the next time we go, we'll do breakfast and take our dog! We personally love Darrell's. It's a comfort, old-fashioned kind of diner - not a fancy breakfast place (such as First Watch). So don't expect Gluten Free toast or fancy coffee etc. We frequent the one on 301 in Wildwood and the one in Pinellas plaza. The staff at both are super friendly and you can tell they really get to know their regular diners. My favorite is 2 eggs over medium with corned beef hash and hash browns. It's delicious every time. My husband goes for 2 eggs over medium with 2 sausages. We skip the toast and get decaf coffee. It's our go to place for breakfast. Their omelets are good too - fluffy. I think they probably put something in them to make them fluffy (maybe a dash of pancake batter?). We haven't tried any pancakes or waffles so can't comment on that. The portions are good sized and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Definite yes for us. read more

Prices are somewhat high, they do the pay less with cash, more with credit thing. I tried the cinnamon pancakes, 1/2 order & a side of bacon. 3slices of bacon is $5 and change. That's pretty hefty in my opinion. Pancakes could've been good but they weren't cooked enough I don't think... Will try again for lunch or a different breakfast menu item. Stopped in for a breakfast since a restaurant down the road was over booking and had a 30 minute wait. We walked in and were seated immediately. Only two servers were working, but also working their butts off. I ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy with a side of hash browns and my wife ordered three eggs, bacon and hash browns. She shared an egg with me and we were both happy with the food, service and friendly attitude of the waitress even though she was really hustling. With coffee, it was a fair price to pay and we were happy with all aspects of the place. read more

This place is close to my home so I decided to go here for lunch. I was in search for a fish sandwich and they happened to have one on the menu. You seat yourself at any clean table since they are short staffed. I decided to sit at the counter. The waitress took my order pretty quick and my food came out shortly thereafter. The sandwich was HUGE, but it was a lot of greasy breading. The onion rings are good as well (with a side of the thousand island dressing) but those were greasy as well. This isn't a fancy restaurant, but it's a place you can go for a cheap lunch, or breakfast meal. read more

The two stars are for the server. She really was killing herself to hustle and they seemed understaffed, which is par for the course nowadays, but it was unfortunate that the other servers don't help each other out. Patrons suffer and I saw people walk and walk out as they either weren't waited on or there were no clean tables as they didn't have a specified buser. Been here a couple of times before when passing through. There aren't many choices unless you are going to go into the thick of The Villages. It was a very decent meal before (not sure where my previous review went, as I gave it 4 stars), so consider this an update. I got the veggie omelet, which I have gotten before and it was always good. Unfortunately, this time, the best food item was the wheat toast. Like to know where the source it, I'd buy it.... anywho... The plates themselves significantly decreased in size to laughingly try to fool the patrons into thinking they are getting more I guess. Omelet was made with an egg substitute or a serious amount of milk to stretch the egg, veggies were drowning in oil and grits were inedible, made with no salt in the water and no amount of "after market" salt or brown sugar could save that sinking ship. My husband got the cheesesteak...did not look appetizing and he said as much.. I know my cheesesteaks form being from that part of the world and it was worse than an imposter. Look like dried shavings and not even chopped sirloin. Counted 10 fries on the tiny plate and could hear everyone around us asking for more fries/where were all the fries. Take note, 3.9% added for card. I wouldn't mind if the food was the same quality. Something has seriously changed, don't know what, but we won't be back to find out if they've righted the ship. read more

Oh god, finally made it here and no wonder why it took me years. It's not only no frills but it's a beyond uninviting setting. The counter is weird. Low and red. The old guys next to me claim it's from a Woolworth's store. I don't agree. I actually remember going to Woolworth's with my grandmother and it was always a fun adventure to go eat at the counter. Of course no real maple syrup. I loathe places like that! How hard is it to offer the tiny bottle and charge more? And the poor waitresses who aren't even familiar with real maple syrup instead being brought up on the GMO crap to taint their bodies. So if you want pancakes or French Toast, go elsewhere. One waitress actually said real maple syrup was a luxury. How sad is that we live in a society where a real product is considered luxury? The menu is completely geared to those wanting unhealthy. I ordered the blueberry pancakes anyhow and I can taste the GMOs in my mouth. Not a fresh homemade batter. Sure go for eggs if you want. They've got cheesy eggs at least. And the wheat toast is thick and tasty. But just as easy to go elsewhere with a cuter vibe. I guess the dog photos on the wall are supposed to support their theme. It's more a weird mish mash that makes no sense. Guess many like this type of place though/ they've got a ton of locations. Hey, there's a niche for everything. This visit was my first and last. Agree with folks who had $100 dining card who will never return. Owner is kind and does want to make improvements so perhaps the place can morph into something more welcoming all around. read more

Just had a great breakfast at your location in Silver Springs. I had a vegetable omelet. This was THE BEST omelet I have had in years. Your chefs are Top of the line. The omelet was VERY fluffy and the vegetables were grilled to absolute perfection!! Kudos to the chefs. All four of us told the chefs how great the breakfast was and they kindly acknowledged how God gets the credit. That Blessed us even more! Thankful for visiting this location today. We will be back! Went to breakfast Sunday morning during a vacation visit with a friend (a Villages resident). It was around 10:30 so expected a line and sure enough, there were about 6 or 8 names ahead of us on the list. Super busy, bustling, but bright and clean location. They worked hard to get seats for people as fast as they could and luckily we secured a 2-top less than 10 minutes in. Our waitress Eileen was out straight but still greeted us with a cheerful attitude. We were super impressed with her efficiency, professionalism and just super nice demeanor. We got our coffee and water really quickly and she took our order almost right away. Food came out hot and pretty quickly given how busy it was. Quality was excellent. Coffee refills were plentifuly and timely. Eileen definitely made this visit 5-star worthy. read more

Very unpleasant experience this morning as a waitress very angrily told me and my group to "get out of the way, Forward is that way" while pointing at the front door. It was quite crowded and we weren't blocking any walkway or doors, she seemed to single us out. We took it as she didn't want us there so we walked out. Highly disappointed as I am a regular of the Darrel's on 301 in Wildwood which is always a pleasant experience. I've been a customer at several of their locations around the The Villages & Belleview area for YEARS! This was my 1st time @ this location. Service was lovely - food was good. When I was given my bill, I noticed a new "charge"...... Non cash adj. .49!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What this means is they are over charging me to cover THEIR costs for being in business. Not only do they want me to pay THEIR processing fees (maybe 8 cents per trans) & another 40 cents for them. I WILL NOT BE BACK! read more

Oh, au contraire, mon ami, the locals pack this place, everyone seems happy and the staff works diligently. Very, very clean restaurant. My food came out fast, it was good, hash and eggs, yipppie! The menu, sorry boring, zzzzzzzz this is your basic, standard generic white bread menu. I'll bet you those cooks in the kitchen are dying to do so much more. Something to challenge their skills at least a week in the diner. Ok, that's my only slam, so I really think it's no big deal. This place does get full, filled with locals. I'm giving Darrell's 2 stars because the service was good and the toast was good, but everything else was bad. First off- an egg patty with raw vegetables on it and a slice of unmelted cheese is NOT an omelette. Very disappointed with the hash browns too because they were almost raw.
