We picked up some amazing sourdough bread, lime butter, honey, lemonade, cookies and some fruit (soursop, apples and banana). We also tried a number of other items like fresh mango salsa, guacamole and other fun treats. Prices can be a little higher, but this is Kauai and most are local farmers and entrepreneurs. We will continue to come back.

Frequented some of the same stands. Bought 2 loaves of organic sourdough bread. Samosas from the Indian food stand.. Gluten free bakery items from Hanoli (?) Girl stall. The stand has regular bakery items as well that look good, Especially their croissants. Went to the other produce stand as they had a bigger selection. Bought 2 honey sugarloaf pineapples which were extra sweet & $1/lb. cheaper than white sugarloaf pineapples. Bought several mangoes. Cut some this morning & they were very good. Found a stand selling 100% cotton kitchen towels, beeswax paper, reusable paper towels & a few other kitchen items. They had the cutest Hawaiian prints for decent price. I bought 3 rolls of beeswax paper & a set of matching kitchen towels & reusable paper towels as a gifts. Also bought a cute Hanalei Farmer's Market cloth grocery bag for future trips. They were sold at the entrance to the market. I look forward to going to this farmer's market next year with my new bag.

With the beautiful weather and easy parking, the setting was perfect for a great time. But found out that it wasn't worth the 50 minute drive by itself, though there are plenty of places to visit on the north shore around that area...still worth the trip. We arrived a bit earlier than the 09:00 start time, so parked near the Hanalei Pier, and walked across the sand of the beach to enjoy the morning before arriving at the market. The market was fairly hopping by 09:30, with 30 different stalls selling their wares. My goal was to find two things to munch on first, as we walked the market: some sliced white pineapple and malasadas. It's clear that for food items, the market does an effective job of making sure a type of a food item is sold by only one vendor at the market...it really inflates the price. White pineapple is a lot less hardier for transport, thus hard to find on the mainland...but definitely a far superior pineapple in terms of sweetness and juiciness. The vendor that sold it here, presented it in slivers inside the typical cored pineapple container. I saw it right away, but noticed that there was no price....it ended up being $20 (I was committed at that point), which is pretty steep for maybe 1/4 of a pineapple. I found the malasada vendor, making it fresh on-site. We only wanted to taste, so got one for $3 non-filled...and it was disappointing...just OK. Should have tasted a lot better considering where we were. We circled the market multiple times, and ended up staying for about an hour. It's a market geared towards tourists like me, not locals: you are not going to find a local restauranteur looking for produce for his/her dinner menu here. Speaking of being a tourist: did end up buying a nice print of nearby Anini beach that we will frame at our home to remind us of Kauai...the artist was super grateful. The picture itself gave me a mission to find that view at Anini (as we were heading there next).

We bought, for instance, one of the best mangos I've ever eaten, with a unique sort of pineappley taste; they cut it open for us in the shop and my whole family fought over the flesh, prompting us to go back and buy several more. They also have a great array of other ... stuff, ranging from a seed exchange to some alluring crafted wood goods. I fell in love with the beautiful heft of a tewhatewha and decided I couldn't leave the island without it. I realize that last bit may be burying the lede, but "come for the vanilla beans, and while you're here, buy a kiawe axe" is really an amazing business model and I encourage you to check it out.

Would add that it's not the easiest set up for those with accessibility challenges to navigate because all stalls are largely situated on a big patch of grass. Parking is limited so I would recommend carpooling when possible. Could definitely feel the island vibes with music playing from some stalls, and locals catching up with the farmers and vendors while selecting their produce for the week. Prices are comparable to those at the grocery stores. Would definitely recommend checking out when around the area.

It wasn't that big and parking was not a problem since they have regular parking for the strip mall. Walking through the aisles and looking at the different people that brought their produce to sell was very fun. I started seeing a different kind of pineapple. These pineapples are white and inside and you can eat the entire pineapple. The core is soft and not hard and it is edible. The prices for these are a lot more than a regular pineapples. I noticed that it was different prices for different sizes of pineapple. They were selling them for 16 and $20 per pineapple. My wife thought that she saw these pineapples at Costco so we waited and didn't buy one. To find out that Costco doesn't sell these and the produce guy was laughing and he said wish that we could sell them since they're good. So we will have to go back to one of the farmers market to get one of these pineapples to try. It was so nice to see all the vendors here at the farmers market. They had lots of fruit and a lot of them look so pretty and fresh. We will have to come back and purchase some next time.

Sold us rotten papayas--check your fruit before leaving…read more We visited the farmers market on Tuesday afternoon and bought papayas from a vendor located toward the middle, on the left side. He offered us a sample of ripe papaya, and we asked to purchase one. Instead, he quickly placed three papayas into a bag and told us it was a better deal. Because we were managing two children, we felt rushed and did not inspect each one before leaving. When we returned to our hotel, all three papayas were badly rotten, smelled terrible, and were completely inedible. Based on how quickly the vendor selected and bagged the fruit himself, this did not feel like an innocent mistake. Please inspect every piece of fruit carefully, choose it yourself, and do not allow anyone to rush you into buying more than you requested. We were extremely disappointed and wanted to warn other shoppers.

It was interactive, educational, and delicious. We loved sampling everything the farm had to offer; fresh white pineapple, dried pineapple, pineapple juice, and freshly made pineapple soft serve. It is a walking tour on level ground. Pace is slow since they stop to explain different stages of planting & picking. As part of the tour, you get to plant a pineapple as well as pick one to take home. Also, you taste freshly cut pineapple, pineapple juice, dehydrated pineapple & a refreshing pineapple "icee"" made totally of pineapple. Tour takes about 2 hours & is well worth the time & money. What's extra special is the sugarloaf pineapples are sweeter & lower acid than you buy in the grocery store. We also bought 2 large pineapples to share with family in the coming week. You can also carry them home as long as you declare them at agricultural check in at airport. Also, they fed-ex pineapples if you go to their website.
