Unfortunately, they did not have chow fun, which is how I typically gauge Chinese food restaurant, but the General's Chicken, made up for it in spades. If the rest of their chicken dishes are similar to their General's Chicken, then this is your spot. The chicken was lightly breaded, not heavy, like a lot of Chinese food restaurants. Also, they were big chunks of chicken, not just teeny tiny pieces, and covered just enough. It was not totally oversaturated and dripping, but just enough to cover and give it a juicy addition to the dish. Overall, or a quick weekly dinner, you can't go wrong. read more

We sat next to the acquarium--watching the fish adds to the fun. The back of the menu has a family dinner for two or more, which is what we did, and each participant chooses their own soup and entree; with two dining, each appetizer came as two--egg rolls, pork slices, pot stickers. I ordered Kung Pao Beef. The portions are generous; my friend and I each took half of our entrees home in a box. The beef pieces were tender and the entire entree very flavorful. In some cases, I try to give a business a second look, in this case, since the business was closed during published business hours on my initial visit, it's technically a second attempt at a first look. I am going to be clear. These people could not have been nicer. They appear to be hard-working, honest people. That said, I didn't enjoy my meal. Looking at photos, I decided to try Almond Chicken despite really craving Mongolian Chicken. Before I get to the entrée, let me address the lunch special. The lunch special was priced right, it included an entrée, soup, rice and appetizer. The soup was weak. I started with Wonton and it needed soy sauce for that added umami flavor, I prefer a rich chicken stock, but this was not that, it was water based with seasoning. The wontons were also really small, more than half the size of what you normally expect. After that disappointment, I decided to try the Hot and Sour. It was plenty sour, but not hot and also lacked the chicken based broth I'm used to. The meal also came with the smallest spring roll I've ever seen. When I bit into it, a string if cabbage came out with a carrot sliver, leaving a hollow husk. When the Almond Chicken came, it looked great. It was crisp, covered in gravy and unlike what I have seen in some time, it actually had almonds on top. That said, after the first bite, I knew I was not going to finish. The gravy had a sweet aftertaste. I don't know why Asian restaurants are adding sugar to everything these days, but food is not candy! If I wanted sweet, I would have ordered Sweet and Sour chicken. This is why I chose this dish over the Mongolian, because instead of making dishes spicy, people are taking Szechuan dishes and making them sweet. I grew up on Mongolian dishes that were spicy. Now everything taste like teriyaki. Maybe some of the other dishes are better, I'll never know, I wanted to try the Potstickers, but after all the fails, I ended up moving on and actually heading elsewhere for a better lunch. With that said my review remains a single star. I had my fingers crossed this would be 5-star, but not even close. read more

This is our go-to place for Chinese takeout. Haven't eaten inside before, so I can't say much on the service and atmosphere, but I can talk about the food, and how well it travels. Johnny's has the best chow mein we've had in the area so far, and their signatures like the General Tao's Chicken are signatures for a reason. We've never had an issue with anything being cold, even when ordered off of Uber Eats. The sauce comes separately with the Sweet and Sour Pork, so nothing gets soggy in transport. Overall, the food has been good, we really appreciate the chow mein and specialties, and there nothing we've hated. read more

I was introduced to Johnnys by my partner, who's been eating here since he was young. Coming from NYC, my standards for Chinese food are HIGH. However, Johnnys hit the mark. Their chicken is crunchy, but saucy. Their noodles are chewy, but not overdone. Their chicken wings though, top ten in the Seattle area. The guy manning the phones/doors is so friendly, which makes coming to get my food so pleasant. We've gotten take-out from Johnny's several times over the years, and the reaction is that most of the food has all been "ok". We don't eat in, opting to get take-out each time. The food has always been ready on-time and is warm, so there is no issues with that. When I first found this tucked away little place and tried the food, I thought I'd found a little gem, a Chinese restaurant that had good food (not great, but good) and one that I could frequent fairly often without being disappointed. Well, unfortunately that didn't last very long. The last two times I went there I wasn't thrilled at all with the food quality. And the VERY last time I made the mistake of ordering the Wonton soup bowl as a side. Holy crap! I could've gotten better value at an AM/PM gas station cold section! For over 4 bucks, I got TWO, let me repeat that... TWO little Wontons and some broth. Good grief, have you ever heard of providing value to your customer? Doesn't seem so. And the cashew chicken was nothing remarkable either. Slathered in their sauce and just not that good. Again. I know food costs have gone up, but there is a difference between charging a lot and giving some semblance of value, to charging a lot for a little and a little that isn't very good to begin with. As far as Chinese American cuisine in the Edmonds area goes, this is the best. Tied with Chopsticks and Furi. Furi has the nicest ambience, chopsticks has a fun "where-the-locals-hangout" bar in back, but for food quality, Johnnys Wok is where it is at. You would not even know that this restaurant exists because it is hidden in a small business strip behind some other buildings in Lynnwood by the 196 th Street Southwest QFC . That being said, for takeout, this is a perfect restaurant. The dining area is bare-bones and functional. The family that owns this restaurant is extremely nice, the quality of their cooking is fantastic, and their service is outstanding. They are hoping to continue growing their dine-in experience now that the pandemic is over. Please support them as they are a fantastic business that has been around for quite a long time, and has been a staple of Chinese takeout in this area. Okay this food is incredible.. it's tucked back parallel to Subway in a business complex, a little confusing location but it works ! When you past Subway on 76 look to right and a driveway .. There is signs on 76th so look for it. The staff so friendly I called in my order to pick up. Already a lot of people waiting also which tells me the food is that good..I arrived on time but needed another 15 min it was Saturday night .. The hot and sour soup was incredible... my sister and I loved the General Tsos with Chicken Chow Mein and my mom loved her Wonton soup and the chow mein.. We get their House Special Fried Rice spicy with extra shrimp which is always super good and satisfying. Online order is a breeze and they follow Covid rules correctly. Fried Rice at most Asian restaurants even in Chinatown miss the mark, it's either too bland or too greasy. The Fried Rice here is flavorful and not greasy. I liked the sweet and spicy soup but it had too much pepper. My only complaint is their location and space. I miss the entrance path every time. While they put out a small sign recently, it's still really easy to miss at night. Walking up to the restaurant in the pitch black night (the area is very poorly lit) was scary, while there's plenty of parking the location feels out of place. It feels like you're driving up to the end of a private driveway for businesses. Grabbing order can be a confusing experience. Their door is shut, but you need to ring the bell for service, which is located inside. If you don't know this you may end up waiting. I'm excited to try other dishes, definitely my go to Fried Rice spot on the eastside! read more

This hole in the wall restaurant is tucked away in the back parking lot just off of 196th. This is probably one of the toughest spots to run a restaurant from as it has no street advertisement and could be easily missed or over looked. The food is excellent! My main focus is on the Orange chicken, General Tso chicken, Kung pao chicken, and the Mongolian beef! These dishes never disappoint. The portion sizes are great and the value is definitely there. The lunch specials are what really impress me though. Their lunch special comes with white or fried rice. Your choice of Hot & Sour soup, Egg flower soup, or wonton soup. Including one of the entrees from their list. Depending on the entree the price ranges from 12-14$ which is extremely good value considering the portion sizes and how delicious the food is. The service is fast and generally it's the same young man who is working most days. He's polite, kind, and always takes really good care of us. Although the dinning area is not the most visually appealing.... This is definitely a don't judge a book by its cover situation. My personal favorite is the Kung pao chicken 2-3 star lunch special with fried rice and hot and sour soup! YUM! read more

We moved out of state for a decade and now we live in Everett so we don't get food from here very often. I really enjoy this place for their lunch specials and mainly their hot and sour soup. My grandmother loves their lemon chicken,but my only complaint is that their dinners don't come with rice. I didn't know that until I got home one night after I picked it up which was disappointing. Their soup is a little more pricey than most in the area, but it is delicious and I order it on a regular basis. Their staff is also incredibly friendly and very kind. We've ordered delivery here a few times now and have been really pleased with all the yummy dishes. We recently ordered dinner for ourselves and some house guests and they were fans as well. Our faves include the House Fried Rice and the Chow Mien. Our guests were all over the Kung Pao Chicken and the Shrimp Fried Rice. I got the Sweet & Sour Pork this last go and it was delish however a little too bread than I prefer. Last time I got the Beef & Broccoli but it tasted a little too "authentic". Yeah, what do I mean by that? There is a spice in food that I've had in China that is curry-like and I am not a fan of it. But if it's your gig, then you may like this entree. I am not saying that it was bad at all overall. The Beef Chow Fun is pretty good, too. I'd get that again. Looking forward to trying other things on future orders like some of the veggie dishes. I'm sorry to write this review. We have eaten at Johnny Woks indoor dining and it was good. Yesterday (7/1/24) we picked up takeout. The meal was terrible, the almond chiKen was dry and overcooked with no flavor, and in my order i got 12 ea sliced almond pieces. My husbands meal was not seasoned, the meat was also dry and overcooked and the broccoli was overcooked because it was limp. If you have a Chinese restaurant your broccoli should never be overcooked.
