John's work is amazing and the staff is very friendly! I'd give them five plus stars for the quality of the work but they are almost never on time. Making an appointmnet doesn't help because they are always running behind. read more

i just went today because of the raves here on yelp. SERIOUSLY, my nails are soooooo freaking pretty. I got this turquoise glitter acrylics done and his wife did an awesome job. John did 2 designs for me on my ring finger nails and it was the cherry on top!! My nails glitter so much... I LOVE GLITTER! John's pretty funny too so you should definitely check it out. I have been going to John for 6 years or so, since he was a manicurist at Beauty World in San Carlos. Back then, I got french manicures (acrylic) and had them done at every nail salon between Belmont to Redwood City. His work was far and above the best I had ever had. My nails were gorgeous when he was done and they stayed looking gorgeous. The man is an artiste and a perfectionist (and quite personable as well). I've referred countless people to him over the years and they are all now loyal customers. I have only ever gone to John, so can't speak to the other staff, but if you get the opportunity to get John himself, just know you'll have the best looking nails in town. read more

My daughter has been going to John for over 5 years and brought me in when I decided to get my nails done. I have been so happy with his work, and I constantly receive compliments on my nails. No parrot beaks here! In two years I think I've had 2 broken nails and John repairs them at no cost, as a service to his customers. It is sometimes harder to get an appointment with John but his team is often available and their work isn't bad at all. I would recommend his shop to anyone. First I should provide an update: CASH ONLY. No checks or cards. Secondly, I got a full set today (called this morning to see if they had time, they asked me when I wanted to come in) of pink and whites. I'm happy with them, although they could be shorter (after asking for them shorter four times, I gave up) I'm sure I'll get used to them. I've never had pink and whites before but I expect I will continue to love them. The gel over acrylic will certainly keep them shiny. I appreciated they weren't there to talk to each other, but they weren't stand offish or anything to me. I'm fine to go back since maybe next time I'll get the length I want. read more

I've been going to John's for about 4 years now to get my acrylics done. Before I found his place, I would have my nails done from time to time at various other salons, always to have them start to lift after a few days. if not that they would hurt! I consistently receive great service at John's no matter who is helping me and the nails haven't lifted ONCE. I really only have to get them filled every 3 weeks or so because my nail has grown out. You DO need to call and make an appointment because they are pretty popular. You might not even be able to get a same day appointment, but they will do their best to fit you in :) read more

John has been doing my nails for 15+ years! John is fast, efficient and without a doubt an expert! Most people I know need to get their nails filled every two weeks but with johns work my gel pink and whites can last me up to a month! Besides making my nails beautiful, john has treated my nails countless times when I've been rough with sports or at work and ripped the skin or infected it with my careless ways. I get compliments on my nails all the time and I will always refer people to john without worry! I have been going to John for almost a year now and he does good nails but the pedicures are bad and the customer service is worse, even from John the owner. I tip over 30% and last time I went for a fill and pedicure the lady on the pedicure didn't listen to what I asked. When I spoke up 3 different times John finally stepped in and refused to have her mess fixed. He said "that's it, if you don't like the pedicure you get your toes done somewhere else." And he made me pay for crap work. He doesn't listen to what I want with my nails, he always does what he thinks would look best. never mind my wants I am only the customer. Plus when I'm in the shop I'm stuck listening to him complain about other clients and flirt with all the under aged teenage girls in the shop even though he's married. It's sick. read more

John doesn't seem to care if you have an appointment or even if you are a long term client. I went there for a very long time despite experiencing some negative things but the last straw was when he put me with a girl who was training that cut my finger very bad and not once did I get an apology. I even told her to stop working on they finger but she did not. You would think long term clients would get better service not be the guinea pig. The ones who do know how to do nails, they are good. If you don't care about customer service then you will like this place because you do get good nails. Come on john. This is by far the WORST experience I have ever encountered. Let me do you ladies a favor and give you recommendations for OTHER places to go to. Vicky nails, four seasons nails, primp and polished, diamond fine hands and feet, universe nails, tip and toe salon. DO NOT GO HERE SAVE YOUR SELF THE STRESS! John is the man that scheduled my appointment for 4:30, and confirmed that HE would be doing my nails. I came in at 4:30, lo and behold at 5:17 PM I look up at him in complete awe. He completely ignored the fact that I was there, did not egg knowledge me, and did not do my nails. He did not even offer to have someone else do my nails. The ambience was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE, and AWKWARD. As I have heard before from clients he overprices everything but I was willing to give it a shot thinking maybe it's expensive because he does a good job. ON THE CONTRARY. The lady that was sitting with him even said out loud "John this is unacceptable this woman had an appointment what is going on here". He literally said "oh so sorry it happens." Nothing more. Mind you I will admit I am a big tipper and I definitely give credit where it's due this man and this place did not deserve anybody's time or money. The ladies that sit next to him were all talking in different languages looking at the clients and laughing, it made everyone looks so awkward. As I'm sitting there a woman walks in and says John you did my nails last week and I told you I didn't like whatever the issue was and he said no it looks better that way that's how you should leave it, disregarding what she wanted he said what he wanted and what he wanted was to do nothing about it, poor woman looked confused and walked out. Look ladies, when we get our nails done, we want to relax and enjoy the experience, and walk out happy. TOTAL CONTRARY. I walked out uncomfortable, shocked and for lack of better words pissed off. I was disgusted with this experience and "his services". It's a waste of money ladies below I will list great recommendations for other nail salons that are less pricey and would treat you with respect. Went in on a whim for a pedicure since my regular salon was booked. The woman was very rough, so much that I walked out of there with a very sore and red big toe. The next evening I knew I had an infection. I saw the doctor the two days later, and indeed had an infection and had to be treated with antibiotics. I couldn't wear a shoe for 4 days. I called John and let him know and although he did pay reimbursement for co-pays and pedicure and offered me a another pedicure, I won't be going back. read more

I have had my nails done by three different manicurists here and each time I am amazed by what great work they do. I have brought in photos of what design I wanted on my nails and each time they have met my expectations if not surpassed them. They do such great work that I only need a fill every 3 weeks unlike every 2 at other salons. My nails look great throughout the entire 3 weeks. Only once have I broken a nail (which may I add was my fault). I went in and John fixed the nail immediately and refused to charge me. I have started to become disappointed in the dumbing down of this society. Everyone acts surprised when they pay $18 for a pedicure or $22 for a gel manicure or $28 for a full set of acrylics and they don't get the service they want or the employees are rude and you can't understand them or you freak out when the nail polish chips or pop/peel off. Seriously? You had the choice.....quality or quantity. You chose to go to a shop that provides fast-paced, low-quality service. You are a number and nothing more. Either do it yourself or save your money and go to a shop that uses high-quality products and the employees can hold a conversation and you'll get what you pay for (paying 18$ for a mani that chips within 2 days and is used with black market product poured into high-end product containers vs. 25$ at a high-end salon with high-end products and your service lasts a week to two weeks! But, it's not going to be a "right now" shop and it's more than you're used to paying!!!))Think about it- QUALITY vs. quantity. We went last week on Thursday for mani-pedi. John and his staff were nice and prices were compatible. We are in search of a new nail spa since our favorite lady Lisa from Amanda's Nail Salon no longer works there. So "out of buffer" --no problem (no discount either), based on our conversation with John expected some nail art on my toes with SF (my toenails were in orange) didn't happen, instead I got few small lines in black coming from one corner of my toes (?) no even a little crystal to enhance it. John said to us "next time, for play offs" (?) Now, I asked for a French Manicure style on my hands and to my surprise a bit of the orange nail polish came off my hand that evening, next night a larger chip of another finger and yesterday another one. Seems to me that the nail polish is diluted so much that it comes off right away and the coat is not enough to keep it in place. We will continue our search for a nail salon with friendly staff who provides quality work. read more

John is absolutely AMAZINGGGGGGGG. I cant stress enough how great he is. I am literally in and out in 30 minutes for a fill. And he does thee most gorgeous job on your nails. The place is small and i would definitely call for an appointment. He can usually never take walk ins because they are always so busy. I went to John's Creation after having it recommended by a friend, who insisted that I see John himself. I was having my nails done for my wedding, and I knew I wanted french gels, which are called "pink and whites." This is the second time I've ever had fake nails put on, so I'm not exactly an expert, but I loved the nails that John did. There was confusion about my appointment (he didn't have it in the books), so they squeezed me in. One of his girls got me started by trimming and buffing my nails and gluing on the fake plastic ones. Then John did his work on the powder, gel and shaping portion. I asked him to make the nails thinner than usual because I know sometimes gels or acrylics can be so thick that you can't function or pick things up. I also asked him to taper in a few of the nails where my nail bed is a little wide. He seemed to think this was an odd request, but he did it anyway and my nails looked great. I did speak up a couple of times when I saw that a couple of nails were not straight at the top. He just needed to do a little more filing. I don't think he appreciated this either, but he did it. Keep in mind that their pink and white work is just that. They don't do anything to pretty up your hands such as soaking, massage, or cuticle work. I'm also not sure about how the pricing falls when compared to other salons, but this cost $37, plus a discretionary tip. It seemed reasonble to me. When I walked out, I was so thrilled with the look of the nails. They were a great shade of pink, the perfect length (which he asked about during the process), and they were very shiny. He had recommended gels over acrylics because of the added shine. The nails lasted through the wedding, through the honeymoon, where we kayaked, zip-lined, golfed, etc., and it's now been 4.5 weeks and they are still on. I did break 2 in the last 3 days, but that was because I tried to lift a piece of furniture and it slipped out of my hand. Because my nails are growing out, they don't look too hot, and I plan to get them filled, but I was impressed that they didn't pop off by now. They also have not discolored at all. My mom had hers done at the same time by a different salon, and they've turned a yellowish color. I highly recommend John if you'd like beautiful looking nails. read more

I am a customer with John for over a year as I was recommended by a co-worker. I never had gel nails done in the past; however, since I go with John, his team ladies have done a great job...my gel nails last upto to a month and there is no chipping or blotches. They are pretty fast as I'm out of there in less than an hour. The place is small but it accomodates everyone comfortably. I have not done a pedicure yet...but I am thinking of making an appt soon to see how they do. The only downfall, when I arrive on some appts, I am not sure who I will sit with as I sometimes request a particular person, I don't get the same person all the time. I totally love going to John's! I'm usually really picky about my nail salons, but once i went to John, i haven't gone anywhere else. I've been going to John for about over 2 years now. John and his staff remember all of their clients by name and how they like thier nails done. I think the first few times i went to get my nails done i told them how i liked them, and ever since, they do them exactly how i want. John and his staff are very professional and sweet, they always make sure that the coustomer is happy with their work... and if you aren't, they fix it right away. My nails always come out neat and perfectly shaped... no uneven painting on my white tips or hang nails or unfiled parts, everything is always perfect. John's prices are pretty good, $28 for a set and $18 for a fill. Everyone that i see in John's that gets pedicures always has their toes looking great too. I've seen all kinds of cute designs and stensils on peoples toes. They are difinetly professional about their work and make sure people are happy. I love coming here, and i like having my nail person remember me and how i like things done, not to mention you always get a good laugh from John he's a crack up. :-) read more
