I would give zero stars if possible. Extremely unhappy with the entire experience. Absolutely, 100%, feel deceived and scammed. Do NOT use this company. I usually never write reviews but feel compelled to do so in this case. I contacted John's Garage Door Services on behalf of my elderly mother (using her contact information) on a Sunday evening to repair a broken garage door spring. A technician showed up on Monday morning to fix the spring. He was wearing a John's Garage Door Services T-shirt. The young man was polite and punctual and did repair the double spring. However, when it came time to pay, the technician requested that the check be made out to Best Garage Door. I thought that was very odd since he was wearing a John's Garage Door T-shirt. I just about fell over when he told me the cost. $350 per the cheapest type of spring (two 10,000 cycle springs installed) and $250 for labor (one hour of labor). Total cost was $950 for a one hour job. Nothing else was done, no replacing the drums, cables, etc. Please do not try to tell me that other services were done. They were not. The technician didn't waste any time cashing the check as it was mobile deposited IMMEDIATELY after he left my mother's home. Today is Tuesday and I am still in shock over the experience, so I texted John's Garage Door Services for an online quote, this time using my name and email address instead of my elderly mother's. I requested the same exact services. John's got back to me with a starting price of $200 per spring (for the cheapest available which is what my mother purchased) and $150 for labor. Total price $550. Again, they charged my elderly mother $950. From what I can surmise, John's farmed the job out to another company, Best Garage Doors. Since both John's and Best need to get their cut from the job, the price was almost 75% more than the quote John's gave me being unaware that they had already completed the very same job at my mother's home. Very shameful that they would take advantage of a senior citizen. Very dishonest company. John's can refute this any way they want. The $950 charge is outrageous. It seems to me that any negative reviews are always attributed to a fake customer or always the fault of the customer. BTW, I read a previous review on Google of another customer who had my exact same experience. John's replied that the technician always goes over the cost of everything before they begin the job. The technician absolutely did NOT go over the cost of the job before he began because at the very minimum I would have questioned the $250 cost for one hour of labor. After the technician had already removed the rod and broken spring from the garage door, he called me to the garage and asked me what type of spring I would like installed and proceeded to tell me the options. The cheapest option was a 10,000 cycle spring at $350 per spring. The other options included a $450 spring with more cycles and a $550 spring with an even greater amount of cycles. Since the technician had already started the job and taken the rod and springs down, I felt that I had to continue with the job at that point because if I didn't, I would be charged for a service call and some amount of extremely overpriced labor to take the rod and spring down. Again, an extremely shocking and disappointing experience. I can't stress enough how dishonest the whole experience was and my shock that the company would take advantage of a senior citizen who is 85+ years old. Having lived in San Diego for 38 years, I have NEVER had a shady experience like this with another company before. Do your research and be sure you are given the TOTAL price upfront BEFORE any work begins, although I would highly suggest that you do NOT use this company. At the very minimum, they are extremely overpriced. read more

Shady operation. Was just a guy with a truck, tools a few parts and a smooth tongue. They have a reputable and realistic online presence but I do not think company is real. Company address in Costa Mesa is a UPS store. Called for an emergency repair and technician was fast talking frenchman with an accent, hard to understand. High, high pressure sales but I was desperate the get it fixed. Had my regular company out later to check the work as they were already booked with an emergency call and they laughed at the price i paid - nearly double. How am I supposed to know the difference between a 5,000 cycle spring and a 90,000 cycle - got ripped off. read more

Called this business for the first time for service on our Liftmaster MYQ8355W garage door motor when the door refused to open/close sporadically. Called at 1:00pm on a Monday afternoon and was told a technician would arrive that afternoon. Technician SAM kept in touch with me via TEXT prior to his arrival at 4:30pm. SAM quickly diagnosed the issue as being the sensors and explained what the options were and pricing. He then immediately replaced the sensors within 15 minutes!!!! Total rip-off. Had them come out for a quote for a new garage door opener. The guy was so rude and high pressure. He would not leave and bordered on bullying. The quote he gave was twice as much as the other 3 quotes I got from reputable local companies for the same openers. Beware!! We called these guys and they set an appointment for 12-3pm and they showed up earlier 9am to be exact. Ben and Leo showed up ready to work with all of their tools. They assessed the garage and gave us details on why it wasn't working. They switched out the old 10 year old springs to brand new ones and put the wire back on the track. Our garage works like new! Great service and the repair was completed in a timely manner. I saw that the cables were loose and I needed help with this. I read the other yelp reviews and thought I would give it a go. Our garage door had an issue with one of the tension springs popping off. I saw it had a kink in it so I replaced it with a new one hoping that would fix it, but it still continued to happen. My wife called Shon Garage Door Repair & Services and within a couple hours he was at our house. He diagnosed the issue saying that the springs needed some adjustment and a couple other things, I can't quite remember. I wasn't home but my wife said that not only did he fix the issues, he checked every component, making sure everything was balanced and greased up. My wife said he was extremely nice and went above and beyond. We're very happy with our service and I'll recommend them to anybody.
