However, in June, when I took my car in for its 150,000 service, Subaru Service informed us that my car needed its transmission replaced and quoted the job to cost $10,206. My family and I were skeptical of this and were recommended absolute autocare by a close family friend who said this mechanic shop is honest and run by good people. We took my car here for a second opinion and I am so glad that I did because they found that the dealership had lied to us, there was nothing wrong with my transmission and only my wheel bearings needed to be replaced which took the cost from $10,206 to $800 to get them done at the shop. I decided to get a second opinion at Gig Harbor Automotive, and I'm so glad I did. They treated me incredibly well from start to finish and performed a very thorough diagnostic. The technician scoped the engine and ruled out sticky valves completely. Instead, they found that the dealership had installed the wrong spark plug in cylinder 2. What really stood out was that the technician took extra time after hours to walk me through everything he found and explain it in detail.
