Heavenly Hand made candy. Made from scratch on site. This family owned business is almost 100 years old and they have one of the best candy selections I've seen (yes I have seen and eaten a lot). The chocolates range from small bunnies (seasonal) to larger nuts robes in dark or light chocolate. Marked per pound, but no worries. Select what you want and whatever it is it will be worth it. They also carry Sea Foam, chocolate covered dates and sugar free chocolate. And the sugar free section is also made on site and you can buy by the piece. Boxes of different types and sizes are available as well as some non chocolate candy. Watch for Holiday specials as in chocolate Easter baskets filled with goodies or chocolate eggs. I recently moved to the area and wanted to try this candy shop. I found the service unfriendly but I bought some candy anyway. I sure wish I had saved my $10. It was the worst fudge I had ever eaten. The quality of the ingredients had to have been subpar. It was very grainy on your tongue leading me to believe they hadn't sufficiently reach the candy temp to prevent such a thing from happening. My friend and I were so excited to stop by here to check it out, but unfortunately the front counter employee was not excited for our visit. We walked around the shop as she was staring us down to hurry up. I walked to the front to look at what was displayed behind the counters and the front counter lady was SOOOO pushy and rude! I asked a few questions about the chocolates and she was just giving me very uncomfortable and short/rude very unhelpful responses. It was very unnecessary for her to treat me and my friend like that and rush us out of her store because she was lazy to give us a good experience and give us our time to enjoy the view of the treats. It felt in a way that she was racist since we were people of color or that she was very unhappy within herself to be giving off so much negative energy to people who want to support the business. My friend witnessed the entire interaction and decided to put back her items because of how she heard her talking to me& I should have done the same, but I was really trying to give her a chance, but she continued to fail completely. I highly recommend to get rid of her to eliminate loss of business from potential customers! There was an elderly lady that was picking up around the store, she should take over because she seems way more genuine and kind. Overall experience was a negative star all because of the one person behind the counter. Sad to say, she was super unprofessional and RUDE! They don't accommodate bonafide disabilities, so sadly I can't recommend them. Construction made the parking convoluted so it was hard to find a place to park. No big deal, I love chocolate. I went in and started picking out stuff and I had to use the restroom in an emergency. I asked to use their restroom and the lady said: "We don't have one", which is a lie because it's illegal to force someone to work in conditions like that. I had no choice but to leave. Between the time I left and I got to Walmart, it was too late and I soiled myself. I had to take care of myself and clean up, but by the time I did, I was drained. And disappointed. And angry that someone could just so easily lie about it, because reasons? I'm older with disabilities. I wasn't going to graffiti the restroom! I resent that I was treated as "lesser than". One of the best chocolate shops in Washington. It's a little vintage shop full of old favorites. The chocolate is so smooth with flavor, not just sugar. The white chocolate is delicious, too. They're fair with the mix ins such as nuts and fruits. Their dark chocolate orange peel is the best I've found in the U.S. so far. They have a few gift items available for purchase such as stuffed animals and hand made keychains, so paired with some chocolate, it's a one stop shop for a nice present. Unfortunately when my friend and I came here we did not have an exciting experience. We came to pick up some gift chocolates for the holiday and as we were browsing and walking around the lady behind the counter kept giving us rushed answers for any questions we had. I visited Johnson's for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! For a small business that makes their own candy, I was expecting the prices to be astronomical, but they were extremely affordable. The store goes back a ways, so make sure to keep going beyond the counter and check out the extra candies in the back. I also noticed that they had quite a few sugar-free and alternative options. I limit myself to once a month visits, the chocolates, and variety of the other confections are addictive. My 91-year-old mother lives in Seattle and requests a pecan log from Johnson's when I visit. My favorite is the caramel both with and without nuts. I give small boxes of their chocolates as little gifts to family and friends who become new customers. What a hidden treasure in Tacoma. One of my fondest memories is visiting the candy stations they use to have in department stores when I was a child. Now many moons later I've gotten the pleasure of taking my grandchildren to this gem of a location. My wife found Johnson's when I was having heart surgery at Tacoma general. It was the first thing I had to eat after surgery that gave me any hope I would want to eat food again. Since then I have gone in there and I absolutely love the lady who helped us. She had been working there probably as long as I have been alive and is a gem. The variety is wonderful and everything I tried has been fantastic. They are in the realm of See's not Theo so don't go in expecting to find 100ptc dark bars that were made with beans pooped from the end of a monkey on the north by northeast shore of an island off of Africa on the afternoon of a month not ending in 'Y". I have had Fran's in Seattle, and this is 100x better. It is homemade, more variety, and local. Don't get me wrong--I love Fran's chocolate figs and their salted caramels. Carol was kind enough for me to try the seafoam (a caramelized honey-comb covered in milk chocolate). So delicious. You can purchase candy in a little bag (i.e. 5 pieces for $3-4). I didn't really like this candy shop. It's targeted for a more older group. It's not the most kid friendly shop. My boys ages 8 and 12 walked in, looked around and asked me to leave. I noticed that it's cluttered, there are too many items, and not enough space to move around. I've not been impressed with their hours either, it's the holidays, and we've tried to come around 5:30 or 6, and they were closed. I plan on coming back alone without my kids. read more
