Goes out of the way to order special products for me that they don't normally carry. Always better prices than the other guys.

I bought a roof rake online, checking that it was in inventory. I paid for the first portion with…read morean Ace gift card and paid for the balance with Apple Pay. Four hours later, my order was cancelled (I received 2 emails cancelling the order). I called the store where I was supposed to pick up and asked them what happened. The manager said they did not have the rakes in inventory and that they did receive a truck and that it could be on the truck, but they won't know for a while. I asked why my order was cancelled, if it could be on the truck, and he said that it was standard procedure if an order could not be fulfilled by a certain time. Then, I asked how I would get my gift card balance refunded, and he said that I would have to call Ace Hardware since it was purchased online. He did not offer the number to call. I had to request it. When I called Ace Hardware customer service, I explained the situation, and they said I had never used a gift card. I told them I absolutely did. The giftcard was why I chose to purchase at Ace. I asked to speak to a manager. The agent asked why, and I said to try to get my issue resolved. She said I did not need to speak to a manager, was rude (interrupting me), and when I insisted, she said no manager was available and that someone would call me back within 48 hours, and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a different agent. He heard the situation and also said that I did not use a gift card (which I definitely did) and said that unless I had the gift card, Ace could not help me. I asked why I would keep a used gift card, and he said they always recommend keeping the gift card. I asked where that was published, and he had no answer. He said someone would call me within 48 hours and then hung up on me. I have not received a phone call. At this point, ACE stole my gift card balance and is refusing to reimburse me. Not only do they have a flawed inventory system, but they also have a flawed checkout cart that does not correctly identify payment methods. I received 2 cancellations -- because I paid in two installments (gift card and Apple Pay). Absolutely the worst customer service experience. I am out of my gift card balance, and I still don't have my roof rake.

This store is everything that you would expect from a neighborhood hardware store. Since they have expanded the store, the selection and display areas are much better. The first time I got a gas can and an axe before a hurricane , and I was questioned like it was an Law and Order episode. (Axe is great, I've been clearing dead trees ever since). Sure they ask me what I'm looking for, but when ever I've tried to explain, it's like I've somehow burdened them, and today got a sarcastic response. I'm sorry, when I buy flashlights, gas cans, seeds, light bulbs or yard tools, the bare minimum you could provide is a positive attitude, I'm simply someone taking advantage of the convenient location, but at this point I'm willing to drive a little further to avoid people bitter in their career path. I understand there's the regulars that either actively get supplies for their business or come in more , but I've been there as a customer, and it's not going to happen again because I never leave there feeling like I should have been there in the first place, so I guess it's a non-issue. Don't have what I'm looking for? Try looking in to where I could find it instead of making an unintelligent and sarcastic joke about you not carrying it. I had to tell them where I would look next.

With all the setbacks and difficulties that businesses have had in the past year, it must be nice…read moreto be that business that doesn't need customers, so they can just not care! Don't go here if you're looking for any degree of customer service. Definitely don't go here if you need help finding something, or information on a project. Don't go here if you're expecting to find business owners who are focused on anything but themselves. Recently, I made my second trip here looking for a specialty item that I just didn't want to order from Amazon on a Sunday afternoon. I figured I'd check Aubuchon even though my last trip here ended in me walking around looking for a wall fixture before finally leaving empty-handed. This time I made it to the doorway before I had to stop since the very narrow entryway was blocked by a customer chatting with the aforementioned owners/managers/takers of space- whatever they are, they weren't moving out of the way. In fact, with the exception of one of the three who glanced at me then went back to the convo, they completely ignored me trying to enter the store. Sure, I can stand out here while everyone chit chats. Finally the customer winds down and moves towards me, apparently planning to walk through me to get out of the store. Okay, I can feint and dodge with the best of them! Still leaving the three employees, one of whom I expected to at least look my way since they were in a tight formation about 18 inches in front of me. Social distancing? Nahhhhhh. Unnecessary, since they turned and walked right past me, to stand on the outside steps and watch yet another employee work/play with the forklift. Two laps around the store and I was ready to leave - again, emptyhanded. I caught sight of the very last employee left in the store who tried so very hard to pretend I wasn't there. Nice try but again, bob and weave to catch his eye. I asked my question and I got the classic retail clerk blank gaze that says, "if I just look at you and pretend I don't know what words you're saying, perhaps you'll go away and leave me alone." Yep, I left. Emptyhanded. Wove my way around the employees still standing outside, dodged the forklift guy who was back & forthing with abandon, and reached my car feeling like I avoided getting somehow ripped off. As a parting shot, forklift guy jerkily backed up until he was about 4 inches from my car before stopping. While they all watched. And didn't say a word to him. I thought they all felt a little cheated that he didn't actually hit me. I know I felt my time was stolen, so I guess we all had a little bit of a disappointment that day . . . .
