Eastman's is a private enterprise and also a community treasure. It is an old-fashioned hardware store where you can get all kinds of advice in regard to a myriad of issues. I went there the other day with a hose that had a problem with one of the ends. It took the man at the counter 30 seconds to look at the hose and another 30 seconds to fix it at no charge. It is always fun to go there and to just walk around and look at all the stuff. It has an ambience more akin to 75 years ago than today. Not only do the members of the staff want to help you, they actually know how to solve virtually any problem that you bring to them. This is one enterprise that Falmouth cannot afford to lose. It is something that we should all support. read more

Generally Eastman's has everything that I'm looking to purchase. This last time their stock on dusk to dawn bulb was down to one bulb and no had any idea when more would be coming. I still will go there because they're local and deserve the support! read more

I've given this place repeated chances to see if the experience changes. On the positive side, it's a wonderful old-fashioned hardware store that has just about everything you need. The kitchen department is lovely and there are gifts and home decor items, so it has a fun General Store feel beyond being just a hardware store. So, selection and environment, A+. The people who wait on customers at the main checkout have always been pleasant. A+ My complaint is with "the guys" in the hardware section, particularly paint. I give them a D-, and I might be being generous. We bought a little cottage and I was excited about painting the shutters and front door, as well as some interior walls. I needed everything - paint, brushes, rollers, pan. The bearded young man asked if he could help me, and when I said, "Yes, please. I have a list," he literally sighed and rolled his eyes, and he was NOT being funny. It was clear that my appearance in his department with my little list had ruined his day. It didn't end there, though. He was curt and dismissive the entire time. If I asked a question, he would cut me off and his tone when answering clearly indicated that he thought my questions were stupid. I swore I would never let him wait on me again. I could have decided not to go back, but instead I decided to give it another try. Well, on subsequent visits, I encountered, not from him because I avoided him, but from several different fellows, a similarly dismissive attitude. Is it because I'm a woman? Or have gray hair? Or am a woman with gray hair? Or have questions that they think are stupid? My husband is no longer able to do any handyman/home maintenance work, and I'm trying to learn! In one case, I asked for clarification on something, and the young man spoke to me so slowly and in such a condescending tone, as if I were a child! Well, this old gray-haired lady managed to act as the GC to repair her home in Florida after one of the worst hurricanes in history, so she can learn and she isn't stupid. She's capable and wants to be independent. I asked one big guy who was hanging some stuff on a rack in the vicinity of the electric screwdrivers to help me find the one I was looking for, thinking he would know just where it was, because, you know, he WORKS there. He reluctantly stopped his important hanging-stuff-on-a-rack work, but he made me wait a bit. Then he stood with me, looking at the drills hanging on the wall, trying to find the one that matched the model number I'd gotten online. But in the end, it was Little Old Gray-haired Lady Me who, a) spotted the drill, and b) also spotted the box it came in up on the shelf above, which held the extra battery and charger. Sorry, guys, you aren't smarter than me just because you might know more about the paint or the tools - there's a life-load of stuff I know more about than you do, and one thing is, how not to be a condescending, arrogant, dismissive...person. You have an opportunity to HELP someone, and you treat them like they are stupid for not knowing. Not ALL of them are like this - I have encountered a few nice, helpful employees. But in the paint/hardware section, I'd say at least half of them have acted this way. It's really disappointing, because I love an old-fashioned hardware store, and want to support local businesses. read more

I ordered an item that was out of stock which I needed, gallon jugs of Wet and Forget outdoor stain remover. I ordered it online to be delivered to the store. I got prompt email notification that it was in store a day before scheduled, and pick up was smooth and easy. It was there waiting for me and the staff was very courteous. I have purchased many items from the store over the years, most prominently a Weber natural gas grill, which is working fine after 15 years. The store is a very well organized and outstanding community resource which I value. read more

So much more than a hardware store! Not only do they have all the hardware store essentials you may need but there's an adjoining area with with an amazing selection of kitchen products like you would find at Home Goods. Here I found some great gifts: a sunflower bottle stopper, gourmet dips from Canada and some cute tongs in the shape of cheese wedges. Also, so many amazing dishes and table wares. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. About four different folks assisted us during our visit and we found everything we needed. We'll definitely be back. This is a gem! read more

It's a nice addition, I've been a number of times to get a gift for the wife, or an essential item (like a one-handed pepper mill...). I love the fact that they are always there to help as soon as I come in, I am a very busy person In day-to-day life so it is a great pleasure to have assistance as soon as I come in. A COOK'S DISNEYLAND! Wandered in here because I love kitchen tchotchkes and walked out with many can't-live-without items which I have been living without for years! Hah. Like a little doggie tea infuser that sits on the edge of your mug. And a strawberry huller. And must-have white porcelain chopstick holders. And A yellow lab cookie cutter. And a palm tree cookie cutter. See what I mean?! Love the store. So fun. And great service people ready to help you find that elusive kitchen item. In my case, it was a wood paddle for making crepes. Two weeks ago I bought two grills at Eastman's - a Weber propane and a Weber charcoal kettle. I couldn't be happier. Here's why: First, they gave me good advice on which models to choose, so I got just the right products for me. Second the price was more than fair. Third, they delivered both grills - assembled, at no extra charge! - within 4 days to my house in Truro. (That's 50 miles away.) They put it in place on the deck, and showed me some of the features. (They also said they would take the old grills away - again no charge.) And finally - everyone I interacted with was so pleasant and helpful. You can buy Webers in lots of different ways and places - but this is the best way by far. The service is first class. I will never go anywhere else. read more

If you're visiting Falmouth or a year round resident, you need to check Eastman's out. They have a full store of hardware, garden care, and a new kitchen department that carries everything you could need. Besides the merchandise, the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I ship there routinely and they've saved me a ton of money. If that's not enough, there's free popcorn. Try going to the local Walmart if you want to experience the difference between neglect and true customer care. The store has been around a long long time. Eastman's has an outstanding inventory. It can be pricey, but from time to time, you can find a good deal. Their kitchen section is a standout, but much of it is geared to tourists and second homeowners. $30+ for a plastic bowl? Their usually unsmiling salespeople pounce on you as soon as you enter the store, and they follow you around. It's aggressive, not welcoming. The store claims this is part of their "customer service" pledge, but it's probably just monitoring for possible shoplifters. That appears to be defined as anyone who doesn't "look right". Infer what you will from that. I feel more welcome in Walmart/Falmouth, where the salespeople are equally willing to help, but courteously wait to be asked. Walmart also employs and services a much broader range of people. Infer what you will from that as well. read more

Ace is the Place with the Helpful Hardware Man! When they came up with slogan, they mean Eastman's. I love this store. I love going in with some little nut, bolt, washer, nail, seed, whatever and having someone immediately ask me if I need help - and being nice while they are doing it. Attitude? Yes, Nice, helpful attitude. And they always seem to have exactly what I need. Once, they didn't have as many as I needed - they ordered the part AND called me when it came in. You will find gadgets and geegaws, powertools and papertowels. The "lady tools" always crack me up (yes, I did buy a pair of floral scissors and seriously considered the matching screw driver). Noting made me smile more than the day three pre-teen boys popped in just to get some free popcorn. No one had a problem and they happily skipped down the street eating their treat. It is a place that reminds you why you moved to a small town and the joy it brings. read more

My family has owned a place in Falmouth since 1977. I went down this past weekend and stayed in town, purchased 2 Tommy Bahama beach chairs... full price- no discount even late in the season. Upon leaving I noticed one chair did not have a strap which tag list, included padded strap. At $50 each... i would like a strap for easy carry. The clerk at the shop did not offer to give me a strap from another chair- refund only. My chair was the last of its kind, but all straps universal. Customer service not there- going that little extra step for the customer is not important. read more

My son, who is half Hispanic and has darker skin, was asked to empty his pockets and was accused of shoplifting on absolutely no merit whatsoever. Of course, he emptied his pockets and only had his cell phone with him. Afterwards, he asked me if this happened because he has brown skin. He is 11 years old. It was clear that the employee (a young kid) who accused him was being forced by his boss (an older man). My family and I were appalled by this kind of behavior and racial profiling. We will never be back and hope the store considers bias training and possibly some new employees. read more

Go to Eastman's!!! Patronize Eastman's!!! Eastman's is a fantastic local hardware store --- been a member of the Falmouth, MA business community as long as I can recall, and I'm 66+. The staff is always helpful and congenial and knowledgeable. Several years ago I went to Eastman's with my granddaughter. She had a tiny kitten she wanted to bring everywhere and we snuck it into Eastman's in a cloth shopping bag. When the kitty peeked out, the sales clerk was wonderful, not in any way negative about a kitty in the store. He even ended up holding the kitty while I got our purchases in the cloth bag. It was a great opportunity for me to be able to teach my young granddaughter the merits of shopping in a locally owned store. Recently (June 2012) I had to replace a gas grill for our camp and, luckily, thought to check to see if Eastman's might be a place to purchase one. They had quality products, at reasonable prices, with assembly, delivery and take-away-the-old-grill included in the price. In three days I had a new, working, quality grill on my deck. Ahh. This is the kind of business we all need to be supporting! read more

I love this store! It is the kind of place you think only exists in a small midwest town. They are so helpful and they can answer all questions I have. The other day I needed bolt cutters and was going to buy a set and they let me borrow their pair. They fixed my broken door knob, broken screen, and showed me how to do some things myself. I go there for everything. If they don't have it, they order it or tell me where to go. I really do love this store because the people who go there love what they do. It really shows. read more

What a great place ! This is a old fashioned, old school hardware store with wood floors ( yes,creaky ) and tin ceilings. They are an Ace store which usually means they have everything and they do. Great nuts & bolt dept. and paint center. Also an awesome kitchen dept. with cutlery and gadgets. The staff is super helpful, they even offer to carry your bags out ! A much better experience than one of those "box" stores. read more
