I've never bothered to leave a review before now, but the state that my belongings were left in from being assigned this company through a military move left us so dissatisfied I felt obligated to create a yelp account and leave the first review I've ever made on any kind of company or service. We were assigned this company through our military move, and the only decent part of it were the packers who adequately packed all of the non furniture items into boxes. After receiving our goods we discovered that our loaders did not take apart our bed fully, and left the entire base of the headboard connected and packed it into a couch container underneath a couch, which obviously completely snapped and broke the beam making the entire bed unuseable. It would have taken them maybe another 30 seconds to undo this. Instead of using any kind of insulating material they covered everything in only paper, and dragged and scraped every single piece in our bedroom set shearing the finish off of the edges of every single piece on the edges (this set being brand new and built in the room it was moved out of). This moving company we were forced to use has left us with thousands of dollars in repair and will not show the slightest concern or care with your items. The guys doing the work were great, which is why this isn't a 1* review. My problem is the company. They leave their trailer and the driver says he'll be back "first thing." Well it's past 830 and our garage is blocked. Tried calling at 630 and no answers. Was given the number to the local manager Rob. He doesn't answered. Called local PD to have towed. As you can see from the picture it's trash day and this container is blocking them as well from their job. From reading the responses from (Terri O), they're the same company who moved us out late are working under the same umbrella!!! The front office was friendly - Ken and Angie - and communicated well. But when you spend close to $20,000, you don't expect to find almost all of your stuff damaged when you get home. My move was two months ago, but I'm still dealing with the insurance company (sorry, I was told they are not an insurance company but a "valuation" company)! So I have a broken dining table, damaged dressers and bookcases, etc., laying around the house, as I wait for the valuation company to get something to me. I haven't been told exactly what I'm waiting for, but I was told that it will be another three to four weeks!! Oh, and I'm expecting to have to hire a legal team to make sure that I get the monetary compensation for the damages and losses of my possessions, as I expect them to low-ball the repairs and to deny others. I'm a 70 year old widower, my wife passed away 2 years ago from brain cancer), and I had to pay $20,000 to lose three months of my life that I won't get back, because of poor quality of the packing by Johnson Moving. On the Colorado Springs services specifically. Shannon, Angie and 2 of the 3 movers were great BUT: Maybe it was my imagination but when the driver arrived he wreaked of marijuana. Ok, what people do on their own time is their own business but this seemed like it was on the day of my move. The same person then went on to ask: "How much are you selling this place for? How much would the rent be?" I answered and left it at that. When we arrived at my new place the same person asked: "How much was this place? How much would the rent be?" Again, a bit intrusive but I responded. Then a couple of comments that I now resent. "I hope you're in a tipping mood." That was so VERY unprofessional. Next, "this place is quite the downgrade." I really didn't appreciate that at all. Again, totally unprofessional. Then, I overheard him talking to his coworkers, "go look for the old guy." Nice! I really appreciated that on top of everything else. During the move my liquor cabinet was damaged. The same mover placed it in my garage, with the damage facing away, without telling me about it. I'm still pretty upset with how this one person treated me and really resent it. The other two movers were nothing but gracious. I think Christopher was the name of one of them. They were very thoughtful, kind, hardworking and totally unlike their coworker. And in my review to corporate I also mentioned that I really appreciated the service that I had received from you both Angie and Shannon. It's so unfortunate one person has left such a bitter taste in my mouth for Johnson-United. I'm sorry to be the bearer of such bad news. Do not use this company! Worst move we've dealt with in my husbands 15 year Military career. Terrrrrible! They canceled quite a few times, showed up late on the day they said they'd be there to do the whole job. Two people showed up. One stayed for about an hour and a half then left with the company vehicle saying someone would be over to replace her. No one showed up!!! Which left one man doing the job! They abandoned that poor man! My husband ended up having to take him back to their company! This company absolutely doesn't value their customers and CERTAINLY does not value their employees. How gross to just abandon a worker and make the customer drive him hope! I hope that man quits! He deserves far better than what you did to him!!!!!! I RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY NOT TO BE USED: I used this company to store and move my household belongings last December. When delivered to my residence after 2.5 months of storage I have thousands of dollars of damages. For example the cast iron on my treadmill was broken in half. My year old dresser drawers will not close correctly. The list goes on. I requested multiple times through multiple contacts to get a form to turn in damages. The run around was great and the form did not get turned in on their timeline. I showed proof of early contact to get this fixed. They have denied the claim and keep sending me bills as if my belongings was still in storage. I would say this place has no customer service. This was by far the most stressful and awful moving experience ever! Do NOT use them. We should have just waited for Atlas or gone with 2 Men & A Truck. The GM changed our packing schedule without ANY notification and we ended up packing all weekend when packers were 4 hours late on day one and didn't show up on day two. And the movers didn't show up on day two of the move either. Got a call from someone at the office and all they said was "driver called in sick, we don't have anyone else to send out". Apparently contracts mean absolutely nothing to this company. The moving crew left on the last day with the job still incomplete; furniture stacked and wrapped in blankets in the living room and garage that wasn't moved upstairs because they 'ran out of floor protectors'. However, they left an outrageous amount of unused supplies at our old house; boxes of all sizes, packing material, two rolls of floor protectors, blankets, etc. And never came back for it even after we informed management about it. We have damage to the old house, new house, and furniture including my mother's piano which I still have not been contacted about. We watched them drop multiple pieces of furniture in person and through our security system. And, at the end of it all we were told "the job was completed"... as if that's all that mattered... customer service completely out the window. The only reason the job was completed was because my husband and I ended up doing so much of the work ourselves. Save yourself from the hassle and drama and call another company. read more

I used Johnson/United to relocate from Colorado to Nevada. They told me that peak rates ended on a certain date. When I called to schedule my delivery, outside of the stated peak dates, they informed me that the peak dates had "moved" and I now owed $2000 more for moving in peak season. With no options available, I scheduled move. Signed the contract. Paid them money. Delivery was scheduled for the 20-24th of September. The Friday before, as I was halfway through Utah on the way to Nevada, conveniently in the afternoon, I was informed that my delivery wouldn't happen until the 1st of October. I moved across the country with my wife, 3 yr old,. 1 yr old, and two dogs based on our contracted dates. I have spend hundreds, probably thousands, buying things I already own to get by. Sleeping on air mattresses. Using laundromats. Johnson representatives, after pointing the finger at United, stopped answering my calls. United only gets me to customer care, who blindly apologizes but provides no answers. I was told someone would contact me. That was last Thursday. Still no call or email. These guys will sweet talk you into using them, then screw you over once they have all of your belongings and you have no options. I have moved all over the country my whole life. johnsons storage and moving in Colorado springs review: We were pcsing from Colorado to Georgia. packers came on Jan 5th at 845am. 2 female packers savannah and sharlet. savannah was on her cell phone cussing , complaining about how her insurance expired today and how she has a doc apt today , she would have to pay a co pay etc etc. I sent my 2 kids to their friends house so they wouldn't have to hear her mess. I did the walk threw of our house to show them what goes and what stays. Then savannah left the other lady here by her self packing because she has a doc apt to go to. savannah didn't show back up till noon. Savannah continued to make calls on her cell and cussing and carrying on about her personnel business. they left at 330. they left boxes, paper and their trash all over my house. I had to clean it up. Mon jan 8th they came back to pack the rest of the stuff and inventory the boxes. savannah showed up on her cell again cussing and complaining about her insurance going from 30 bucks to 500. I had sharlet write their name on a piece of paper so I could have it for the survey on how they did. well sharlet wrote it in my personal book I handed her that had other information of ours in it that we need for the move. I turned my back for 5 mins and sneaky snake savannah got ahold of my notebook and tore that page out that had their names on it. a few mins went by, my gut said to check my notebook and when I opened it that page that had their name on it was torn out. the page behind it still had the impression of their name on it.. so I call johnsons moving and storage to confirm their name was what they wrote because that's some sketchy stuff.. and told the lady that answered what savannah did... the driver for use showed up to do inventory on the big items and savannah snapped at him for asking a question. the packers left toys and other stuff unpacked that was supposed to be packed. they also DIDNT USE DISH PACKS FOR MY DISHES they wrapped them in paper and threw them in a box. they also threw my sets of china dishes into the same box as my heavy crock pot. none of the boxes says china dishes on it. So I have no idea where my 2nd set is right now. So after all this I called their boss at Johnson's and complained about savannah he didn't seem to care, l also called the lady over our move and complained .she said she was filing a report on her. savannah was horriable but sharlet was super sweet and did a good job. read more

I used Johnson Storage and Moving in January 2017 for a cross country move from Denver to Pittsburgh. First, my estimator, Roger, was nice as were the packing crew and loading crew. However, I had my goods transported to storage in PA and that's where things went badly. My furniture, which was insured as high value, was severely damaged in route and upon delivery, I was not allowed to inspect the items. The crew just shoved everything in the storage unit. They piled boxes upon my high value items, unprotected. The crew actually questioned the lead about this practice and he said he didn't have the material to protect my belongs and I could go buy it myself. The crew, fortunately, advised me to be cognizant of removing boxes since my items were unprotected. In my previous moves, I have always checked off items from the inventory list but this did not happen. The crew just unloaded without checking the inventory. I ended up with two table legs missing! I also spoke with the moving coordinator about the crew lead's actions and how to appropriately document damages. I asked (via email) if an inspection was required she finally called me and told me verbally to take photos. I followed her instructions and filed a claim. After several phone calls and emails with two separate claim processors, I received a denial letter citing the company had the right to inspect the belongings upon removal from storage. I have since appealed their denial but I can tell you that I could not in good conscience recommend this firm. They do not know their rules, have poor communication skills and treat you like a number. This is NOT what I have experienced with any other United Vanlines affiliated company on my previous three moved. They also transported a classic car for me cross country and that experience was deplorable! Johnson hired a flat bed truck driver to pick up my car who had a nasty attitude and dinged my car with the hook when he was applying the chains. My car arrived with a broken door handle and the driver had to crawl out Dukes of Hazzard style. Stay away from this company! Stay far, far away! Military contracts them as a moving company and I would ask for anyone else if you've been assigned this company. We were originally scheduled to move June 5-7. We had a walk thru done end of May which none of the issues that Johnson made claims on were mentioned. On June 4th we got a call from them saying they couldn't be there the 5th but no worries would be there on the 5th and 6th to get everything done. Got another call on the 4th saying nevermind someone will be there. The morning of the 5th the crew was scheduled to be there 8-10, at about 9 we get a call saying an entire crew called in sick but another crew would be our 12-1, about 11 we get another call claiming the crew got into an accident and couldn't make it. We wished them well said hope everything is okay and scheduled for the next day. Morning of the 6th movers are scheduled to be there 8-10. Crew comes in at 1035, does a one minute walk through and then disappear. After 4 hours of waiting I start to make calls and after 6 hours finally get a call from the company saying the crew claimed that our place was infested with bugs, there was feces all over and smelled so bad of urine they couldn't work in the house. I tell the owner of the company that's the most ridiculous of claims and he says that his crew is really seasoned and he doesn't believe they're lying. We schedule to have JPPSO out on the 7th to inspect the house because they have to after a claim is made like that and I take a video of our house to show the conditions of it. JPPSO comes out on the 7th and says that he has no idea what the crew was talking about but we have to hire an exterminator to come out and write an official letter that there's no bugs. We hire an exterminator who says there is no sign of any kind of bug: no roaches, bed bugs, carpet beetles or even spiders. Our complex even writes a note for us saying that during our quarterly inspections they've never had any problems with our apartment. Johnson then claims to not have any dates available until a week after our original date. I would cut off a pinky before ever dealing with this company again and thank god they aren't based out of Wisconsin. They broke our bed frame and out door furniture, and we are missing things like an entire box of blue ray dvds, a high priced weight bar, fishing poles that have been in my family forever and a few other miscellaneous items. To say this company has poor service would be an understatement. read more

I scheduled a move with these guys, and the salesperson Ken came out to provide an estimate. He said that he knew all about it, sent off an estimate then disappeared after he got paid (in advance). But their day-workers got no guidance from Ken so they only loaded a fraction of the items and then blamed everyone but the company. Johnson was quick to threaten me with liens ect if I demanded a refund. I have already reported them for their abuse. The whole thing was horrible and Ken and his boss "VP" Josh are bullies. Instead of working forward to finish the job as they agreed, they just laughed it off as "comical" - I ended up finding another reliable company, but had to pay again for the job that I already paid Johnson to do. I'm an Army brat and retired Air Force Colonel. Moved my whole life. This was the worst experience. I was promised a "5-star driver" who would pick up our belongings and deliver it to Florida. Instead, I got a "no-touch driver" -- trailer is loaded by the Johnson crew and taken to the yard. A contract driver, who I can't contact, hooks up the trailer and drives it cross country. The "no-touch driver" then drops off the trailer at a local yard (in this case Mayflower, a sister company). Mayflower delivered the household goods. On the day of pickup, the Johnson crew arrived an hour late. The trailer was a disaster -- no ladder, no serviceable tie-down straps, trash and garbage in boxes, no neat piles of moving blankets. Just a mess. The shuttle truck (moving goods from the house to the street) leaked oil, lots of oil on my concrete drive. The crew was polite. When the trailer was enroute, nobody at Johnson could tell me where the trailer was and when my belongings would be delivered. The Operations Manager was simply rude. Phone calls were not returned. I've asked to speak to the General Manager twice, via both phone calls to the front office and emails. He has yet to show me the courtesy of a response. I would think he would want to hear first hand of my experience. I've documented them to Johnson in a number of emails. Unprofessional. Ultimately, thanks to a local office in Florida, my trailer was found. Delivery was three days late. I was offered $100 per day for the late delivery. Ludicrous! What is the motivation to make a delivery within the agreed upon window when the loss to the company is only $100 per day? Delivery went well, but no thanks to the folks at Johnson. The good news is I lost only one item, a ski boot bag with boots, helmet, goggles, etc. About $555 worth. I've filed a claim. Some lamp shades were ruined, some furniture scratched, all relatively minor stuff -- I'm used to it. Johnson promises quality service. No way they met that objective! I obviously suggest you find a different mover, one who values your business, keeps you posted during your move, and doesn't mislead you on what to expect (a "5-star driver" in my case). Avoid these people at all cost. When they came to my house they were more interested in running around wearing my body armor, and dry firing my fire arms. They tossed things into boxes and threw kettle bells on top of statues, they threw a computer into a box with kitchen knives dumped on top. Then when everything was delivered my helmet, body armor, and anything else they could make off with was missing. My couch looked like it had been dropped from 10 feet and the frame was cracked apart and showing, both mine and my sons beds were destroyed, they had kicked my coffee table so hard the top had come off, and they have flipped another fable over and used it like a box after wrapping the legs in cling wrap so tightly they were ripped off. To make things better after breaking all my furnture stealing all the tools, and military gear they could, losing the parts box so nothing could be put back together. I file a claim with them and they deny it saying the inventory done by their employees wasn't filled out correctly and they aren't liable. Avoid these people at all costs, they will break what they can't steal, and then say it's your fault. read more

DO NOT USE this company! They lost 5 of our boxes and damaged several items. Total damages and losses is several thousand and they didn't even offer a quarter of the value of lost and damaged goods. They will hide behind accusations stating you don't have proof of ever owning the lost property and due to horrible inventorying by their movers they don't document the content of every box they will just label it "bedroom stuff" and "Kitchen Supplies". During the dispute process they never returned calls and never let us know the process of our claim. They just kept telling us next week, next week. This is a shady company with no since of responsibility for other people's property. read more

This company does not reimburse you for all the damages even though they tell you it will be paid. The adjuster came to our home and viewed the damage and assured us it would be paid in full. We would NOT recommend you buy the extra insurance costing $1,000 as this company is NOT going to honor this contract nor will they reply to you when you contact them regarding damages. We watched as boxes were dropped in front of us and a large expensive tree pot was dropped in the van which broke into pieces. We had carpet damage but where the contract said 100 percent coverage this was not the case. We would tell you to look elsewhere before using this company. read more

We've moved interstate several times over the decades. The last two have been with companies affiliated with United. Both have been excellent experiences. We had a team of two from Johnson United help with packing fragile things. They showed up when they promised and worked HARD for over six hours, taking only a short break for lunch. They were positive, helpful, and efficient. Two days later, the loading crew arrived. They too were amazing...in attitude, helpfulness, hard work. When the six of them pulled up in three trucks, it was like the army had arrived! Even the neighbors noticed in a positive way. :) It was clear from the beginning that their number one goal was to give us a great experience--and they did. We appreciated them and I hope they knew it. Moving is always stressful. But thanks to Johnson United for making the first part of this relocation a lot easier. read more

Can I give them less than 1 star. Their unpackers damaged the floor of our rental. They were sent claim information for the damage. We were told our claim would be paid within 12-17days. On business day 19 the owner said he needed more information and we still havent seen any money for the damages our landlord will charge us if the company doesnt own up to their damages. The damages happen nearly 45 days ago and the company has been SLOW to respond to anything with hardly any communication from them. The unpackers were disasters. This company is horrible. I have complained to total military movers and I hope they loose their military contract. read more

As I wrote in a review that no longer seems to be posted, Do not hire this company unless you are plotting revenge against an unfaithful lover. A year after my relationship with this company began, I have found my wedding gown! It was curled into a ball under some stray socks, underwear and cleaning rags. If only they had destroyed, damaged or lost my possessions, this would be so easy to fix. Instead, they unpacked at the warehouse, then packed a few objects from each room into each box. It's like they knew I would move into a four story house! Each box requires several trips up and down the stairs. I received my things in November and here we are, the following September. Still trying to sort out this mess. If you're one of those people who are incredibly organized by nature and you want to learn to live in chaos, this might be the company for you. EDIT: Don't fall for that auto response under this review. I've gotten it before, my move was verified and I was told it's over. It might be over for Johnson, but it's certainly not over for me. I am still sorting this out. The check for the missing items doesn't cover the nights of frustration, it just covers the Jordans that were "lost." read more

This Johnson Moving and Storage move was nothing more than a DUMP and RUN. 19 moves during military career and this one far rates as the ABSOLUTE WORST. Moved from AZ to Colorado Springs and nothing was done at delivery site except dump boxes throughout house. Under contract with government they were supposed to reassemble furniture which was disassembled at point of origin...this WAS NOT done. Called company to have them come do their work and they blamed AZ movers. As long as they are paid by the government, THEY DON'T CARE about honoring their end of the contract!!!!! read more

Diane came to complete a pre-move survey with my wife. Called late at night to schedule the survey. Complained about literally everything during the call. Arrived an hour after the expected arrival time. Then at the location began to tell my wife her whole life story of drugs, rape, spousal abuse, and her upcoming back surgery. Complained about how much little things needed to be packed by the movers and couldn't answer any questions about the move. Completely unprofessional. My wife really doesn't want to hear all that. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY!! I used this company last November after it was recommended by another United Van Lines company. I contracted for five (5) workers and two (2) trucks to move my belongings from storage to my home. On the morning of the move, only three workers and one truck arrived at the storage unit. After several calls to the their office, I finally had an opportunity to speak with the General Manager. He promised to find additional workers. Shortly thereafter, a worker showed up at the storage unit. A second worker showed up at the delivery address (my new home) and quickly departed, making no attempt to assist. I never received a second truck. To add insult to injury, the additional worker, while moving my relatively new washing machine, lost his grip while moving it. I watched my washing machine tumble down the driveway!!!!! Yes, it tumbled down the driveway. The worker did exactly what the crew lead told him not to do. After speaking with the GM, he specifically told me he would remove the worker from the job and pay for a new washer, especially given the worker was negligent ("make it right"). After almost 11 hours, my belongings were finally in our home. And it was only 11 hours because my husband and I helped. After fighting with Johnson Moving for more than a month, they gave me less than replacement value as they indicated I opted to get reimbursed "by the pound" for damages. While they violated our contract, and the GM said they would pay for the replacement, they paid a minimum amount. Sorry to say they can't be trusted to care for your belongings and live by their word. This was by far the worst move in my life and I spent 26 years in the military and 12 years in industry moving from place to place!!!! STAY AWAY from this moving company! Worst claim department ever! The front end of the move was promising and we were quite satisfied. We had a hot tub to move which cost $2500 for that alone. Oleg, the driver did not know how to load so other guys (total of 5 guys) from United came to assist and were great. We felt confident. Driver said he would have 3 helpers on the delivery side but he had two elderly men (at least in their late 60's if not older). We found tub leaking when filled and filed a claim which was denied. The below describes our experience: 1. The evaluator (Complete Repair Solutions) that was sent out to inspect the hot tub admittedly had no knowledge of hot tubs, his specialty was furniture. 2. The evaluator clearly saw that there was water underneath the tub indicating a potential leak or crack, he took pictures, I also have pictures. 3. The evaluator was on site less than 5 minutes only looking at the interior. We expected an inspection of the pipes and tub shell by removing the side panels. 4. The evaluator stated that he would recommend a professional hot tub specialist to be sent to further evaluate. Claims department denied. 5. I'm not sure why your settlement position states that the "assigned repair firm advised there was no physical damage" when the evaluator was not an expert nor a repair firm but simply a 3rd party service provider that makes initial assessments and recommendations for a next step. 6. The placement of the hot tub on the moving truck in Colorado required 5 or 6 guys, experienced in moving hot tubs. The driver said he would have 3 additional men on the delivery end to unload the hot tub. There were only 2 and those 2 helpers were elderly (their ages looked like late 60's) and certainly not experienced with moving a hot tub. Much complaining and expletives were expressed by driver and helpers which was very unprofessional. They also knocked down our fence in the move. I have video of the entire unloading and placement at delivery in which there is some questionable handling of the tub. 7. We paid $2,500 to move this hot tub and expected expertise, care and frankly better customer service. 8. Although it was placed in a temporary spot, the final placement was less than 15 feet away. We feel that you are using this as an excuse to not conduct a thorough and appropriate inspection. 9. Therefore, we are requesting that you do indeed send out a professional hot tub specialist to inspect the interior, exterior, pipes, etc. before you render a final settlement of this claim. The Claims department will not honor our request and now we need to go to "arbitration"! read more

If you are considering using Johnson Storage & Moving Co (United Van Lines) for your move, don't. I recently moved my family from CO using Johnson and they provided more headaches than any move should. Although the quote process went smoothly, almost nothing else did. The packers showed up on a Thursday (as scheduled) but struggled to follow simple instructions like label the boxes filled with items from one pile as 'house' and boxes filled with items from another pile as 'storage'. The vast majority of our boxes were mislabeled, making our pre-packing organization efforts a waste of time. This made unloading extremely frustrating as we had to open and look through every box rather than being able to sort based on the labels. But at least the packers showed up... The movers were scheduled to arrive the following day (Friday). One would assume that since they sent the packers as scheduled the day before, the movers would also show up as scheduled. By ~ 9 AM the movers hadn't arrived so I called the company for an update. When they looked at their schedule, they didn't have me written down at all. I respect that they admitted to the mistake, but since this date was agreed upon months in advance, it is hard to give them much credit for owing the mistake. They said they would find us a crew for later that night, but our flight was that evening (which we informed our moving coordinator about - also months in advance). This forced us to have to call a neighbor and a friend to come over and monitor the movers for us. Not only did they waste our time, they wasted the time of our friends and neighbors. But it doesn't end here... - They were only able to fit half of our items onto the truck, the other items had to sit in the garage until they could contract another mover to come and get them. - When the first shipment arrived, the driver forgot the keys to the trailer and had to use my tools to break into his own truck. - The second shipment was delivered over a week late and was horribly packed; even the driver said he had never seen anything so poorly packed. - They also double charged me for the move - they charged my corporate card and my personal card. They did get one refunded, but yet another hassle. - When I asked about getting a discount (not a refund, just a discount) for all the issues associated with this move, they refused. Unless you are willing to supervise the packers as they box up every item, deal with incorrect charges, and wait through various delays, find a different moving company. read more
