Bullis hardware an old time hardware store, they have most everything you might need. However,…read moreit's not the same store it was a couple of years ago. Mr. Bullis turned that store into a gold mine. The customer service and help was beyond excellent. He knew where everything was at, just like his assistant Jerry. I would go into the store with a problem I needed a solution to and either Mr. Bullis or Jerry would give their undivided attention to find a solution. Sadly Mr. Bullis passed away several years ago but Jerry was still there and the service remained the same. Then Jerry left, not sure what happened, they said he retired, but it wasn't the same and their business slacked off. About 8 months later I went to Bullis hardware and Jerry was back, he came out of retirement, their business boomed again. About 6 months after that, I went to Bullis and Jerry was gone again. I asked where he was and didn't really get a response. Now the store is manned by Mr. Bullis's grandsons and his daughter and son in law. When the daughter or son in law is in the store the service is fantastic. When the grandsons and their wives are there which is most of the time, the service is terrible, they act like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. If you ask for help it really isn't great. I know they don't have the experience that Mr. Bullis or Jerry had and in time that may come but time is running out. They are resting on their laurels and the reputation Mr. Bullis made with the store. But the reputation is being degraded by their current people working the store. Their business is down, they don't appear to be as busy as they used to be. They need to realize they have serious competition. There is an ACE hardware on the east side, a new ACE hardware on Reidville Road, Johnsons ACE Hardware in Wellford, I've been to all these stores and their service is like what Bullis used to be. I hate to see Bullis going in the direction they are going, I like that store but it IS NOT THE SAME.

I also do not like buying my important vegetable plants at big box stores due to quality issues. So their web site is pretty decent. It is easy to use and easy to check out. I found the selection of tomato plants (actual plants not seeds) to be pretty good. Even better than my local place. So they got seeds and lots of vegetable plants to select from. I was a little dubious on how tomato plants would make it through UPS shipping. Well the box was well packed. Each plant (total of 5) was carefully individually wrapped. Plastic on the base to keep the soil in. Each plant was protected by individual cardboard packing. The soil was damp and not dried out. All five of my plants arrived in great shape and super healthy. Very happy with the web site, quality of the product, and the prices (even with shipping). Highly recommend.

On the first visit, only half of the items I needed were in stock. The second visit I hunted and hunted for a new washer drain hose. Finally went to the "helping hub" no one was there and waited 10 mins before someone asked if I needed help. The store was not busy at this time. No one noticed me wandering up and down the plumbing aisles. Or standing at the help desk. Went to the Johnson's Ace hardware in Wellford after the first visit and was greeted at the door and asked what I was searching for and they helped me find it. I recommend going to Wellford store instead of Duncan.

When I inquired they said the loose bolt kept it from starting, & claimed that warranty claim was denied, even though the mower was sold as preassembled by manufacturer & only 6 mos. old. He refused to refund the diagnostic fee, and he yelled and tried to intimidate me when I was dissatisfied with their refusal to refund the diagnostic fee on a mower only 6 mos. old that he told me in beginning that it had a loose bolt. I refuse to do business with someone like this.

My husband has a machine shop and sure wishes Harbor Freight had been around when we first started out! His metal cutting band saw is over 20 years old and still going strong.
