PheNOM. My neck and shoulder have been aching for YEARS, and after occasional massages and a brief stint with chiropractic care, I decided to check this place out to see what PT could do for the issue (which is likely caused by poor posture at a desk job). They set me up for an initial consult/injury screen the VERY DAY I called, and I had an appointment with a physical therapist the next day. I have now seen Susana for three sessions, and she works wonders. Her blend of targeted massage, exercise suggestions, and therapeutic tape have resulted in a noticeable difference in how my muscles feel. I've been seeing Marissa at the Kenmore location for over a year now for chronic issues related to hypermobility. Not only is she excellent at her job, and has helped me immeasurably in regards to pain and mobility, but she has made me feel more validated and supported than any medical professional I have ever seen. She actually listens to what I have to say, and is always happy to explain what she's doing and the physiology of what's causing my pain. In the time I've been going, JV has began to work on how they can be more LGBTQ inclusive, including changing their intake forms to better allow people to self-identify. Marissa, and all of JV, want you to feel safe and affirmed in their space, and it shows. By shear luck, I happened to choose Joint Ventures Physical Therapy. My PCP had diagnosed me with a pinched nerve in my neck. Joint Ventures matched me up with excellent PT - Kristin Hardin. It was easy to make appointments with her at the Kenmore branch which is easily reached on the T. Kristen carefully, slowly began to help improve my mobility and pain management. She also provided a series of easy to follow instructional home exercise video links that speed up my recovery. I strongly stress the following testimonial: She cared so much to help relieve my constant nerve damage pain, that she helped implore my reluctant PCP for an MRI referral. She simply wanted to better understand my spinal injury. The eventual MRI revealed spinal disc ruptures. She then was able to completely adjust her PT focus based on more specific factual information. She further helped recommend an excellent spinal expert at Beth Israel Hospital. I've worked in the hospitality industry for fifteen years, so I like to think that I know something about customer service. I don't ever give anyone the highest rating (to the chagrin of many I have supervised), so I'm really happy to write a review for Joint Ventures and their staff. I also have been heavy my entire life and have struggled in going to the gym because I always feel like the fat kid in the room. So, I decided to check out Joint Ventures' the Advanced Body Makeover program. Mike Greenfield and Alicia Romano have been awesome. I've definitely made progress and can't say enough about them, really. Alicia: We always have a great meeting. I enjoy that she's compassionate, a little tough, and completely non-judgmental. When I reached out to say that I was struggling a bit and asked her to check in maybe once or twice more in the week to see how things were going, she had no problem shooting me a couple of e-mails to encourage me to stick with it. She's also always super quick to respond and follow up with recipes and suggestions over the course of the weeks that were tailored to my tastes, literally. Mike: I didn't know what to expect from a personal trainer at all. Having been a Boston Sports Club member for years, I wasn't impressed with the fact that they really didn't seem to be focused on their client, but had eyes wandering around the room. Mike's never been like that; he's super attentive. He notices little things like a grimace and will check in to make sure that all is well. I was also afraid that I'd end up leaving the gym not being able to move for a week; Mike picked up on that; instead I leave feeling challenged, but not broken. Watching/overhearing him with other clients, it's easy to tell that he's really, truly customizing what happens to each clients' goals. Even beyond these two, Marissa was super-fast in getting back to me when I had initial questions about the program. She and the reception staff at the Kenmore Square location have been outstanding about working with me to provide the documentation necessary to get reimbursed from my Flexible Spending Account. I'm definitely re-upping my commitment to work with Alicia and Mike for another 8 weeks and encourage anyone thinking about the Body Makeover program or Advanced Body Makeover program to do it! read more

My experience has been with the Kenmore Square branch of Joint Ventures; and I am very pleased with the professional staff. Following multiple fractures of the left humerus and a rib, the VNA provided PT in my home. They were very kind, but told me I would not get full use of my arm again and that it would always hurt in damp/cold weather. Then a friend recommended Joint Ventures in Kenmore Square. What a different attitude! Working with Mike Pellegrino. I am well on my way to having 100% use of my arm, again. There has been no cold weather or dampness pain, even though I am well into my sixties; and distinctly lazy about exercising before this experience. His positive (realistic and humorous) approach has encouraged me to exercise - at least during comercials; and every appointment has strengthened my muscles and my confidence. I've even walked into a gym a few times, although I wish the mirrors hid more of my poundage.. Sigh. When I was choosing a physical therapy clinic I had narrowed it down to two organizations: the Boston Bruins' choice and Joint Ventures. The positive reviews on YELP, my friend's recommendation, and the creative title of the company made it worth it to drive into the city. And I have never regretted my decision. In addition, he is a very interesting human being. I have had no trouble setting up appointments and the office seems to be very well run. A few years ago I had a problem for which I saw a highly trained massage therapist at Joint Ventures and she kept working with me with no improvement for too long. However, when I finally came to my senses and recognized that she wasn't helping me, she was extraordinary in writing a letter to a physiatrist (physical medicine doctor) detailing everything she had learned about my body. Prior to my visit to Boston, I perused Groupon & found a 60 minute massage for $45 from Joint Ventures. I couldn't be happier. I scheduled my massage in the afternoon (giving myself time for a nap after arriving on a red eye). Julie was absolutely fantastic. Since the enjoyment of a massage is unique to each person, the best thing I can say about any therapist is that they are totally focused on YOU and what you need/want. I got the best massage I have ever had from Molly, over two years ago, and I still rave about it. I was looking for some tension release from all the sore muscles and knots after doing a lot of weight lifting, and that's exactly what I got. I'd never had a masseuse target my stressed muscles as well as she did - it felt amazing. The room was quiet and relaxing, good music and perfect tempo for relaxing but still getting worked on. One thing I'll also never forget - she used a moist, warm towel to wipe off all the extra oil after the massage was done - can't they all do that? Loved every minute. I have been to a ton of different spas for massages and had mediocre experiences - this isn't one of them, it was awesome! read more

So back in the Fall, I was having major issues with my knees giving out on me to the point where I just gave in and went to see an orthopedic surgeon. Doc suggested I get some physical therapy... apparently my knee caps were out of place which is just plain disgusting. He told me I got to pick wherever I wanted (that took my insurance etc.). This was a task I really had zero desire to partake in so I turned to Yelp, did a search for physical therapists and ba-boom... JointVentures came up and had 2 great reviews. Why the heck not give it a try? I'm SO glad that they were the first place I called. Super convenient location (right @ Kenmore), the staff is ALL so nice. I don't think there's one person in the entire place with a chip on their shoulder. The girls at the front desk are super super nice and even take the time to know you by name. I saw Jess Douglas for about 3.5 months and she worked hard to get my knees and legs strong again with lots of different exercises, massages, and at home workouts. I have been seeing Dave for about 8 weeks now for serious back and hip pain. The pain started when I was 7 months pregnant and continued 15 months postpartum. This group is amazing! We put together a Tough Mudder team for the NE#2 course on Mt. Snow in VT, and the Joint Ventures crew really got us in good shape. The facilities are new and in great condition, they have a solid range of equipment, and the staff really know what they're doing. Of our team, nobody got injured beyond minor twisted ankles, cuts, and scrapes, and we all finished the course thanks to Joint Ventures' fitness and training. Best Prenatal massage I've ever had. Renee not only is a very gifted massage therapist in general, she is extremely knowledgeable and talented at pregnancy/prenatal massage. I've been a loyal client of Joint Ventures for approximately 6 years now and absolutely love the crew who works there. They're very friendly, knowledgeable and they truly care about their clients. From the receptionists to the doctors and therapists, they make it a point to know their clients. Personally, I love all of them - Soraya, Melissa... I started with podiatry (my podiatrist relocated there). From there, I became interested in trying all of the services they provided. While working through an extreme case of plantar fasciitis, I had the honor of working with the co-owner, Dan. He is FANTASTIC and the funniest person on earth!! I looked forward to every visit! Secondly, and most importantly, he is a phenomenal physical therapist. He did wonders for assisting me with foot & knee problems as well as back issues. I then had the pleasure of working with the best personal trainer I ever met, Mike. He introduced to me many techniques that I still employ to facilitate exercises I thought I could never perform again due to injury. Unfortunately, he is no longer there at this time. Lastly (but NOT least), I take this time to applaud the great work of my massage therapist, Ryan. I almost cringe to write this, as I absolutely HATE to have to share him!!! In my many experiences with M/T's, Ryan is on entire different level of excellence. I am a faithful customer and will settle for no one else (if I don't have to). He's passionate about his craft and has knowledge about his field beyond anyone I've ever met. Every experience with him is even greater than the previous one. He is able to isolate and address any area of pain/injury and has worked mircles for this girl who suffers from early onset arthritis (from power lifting). My massage with Renee last weekend was incredible! I have had numerous massages at a variety of Newbury St. spas, but found this massage was so much better! What I particularly liked about this one was that Renee was physically strong; though she provided the perfect amount of pressure (some other ones I have had barely gave any pressure so felt ineffective). I also felt Renee really knew her anatomy and found many of my target areas in my back (I am a mother of 2 young children who I carry around a lot).
