I know how improbable this story may seem, but I swear it is 100% true. There's a classic Twilight Zone episode (A Penny For Your Thoughts, Season 2, Episode 16) where a man paying for a newspaper at a news stand flips a coin into the vendor's cashbox. The coin miraculously lands on its edge. The man suddenly gains the ability to read people's minds. As Rod Serling's narration notes: "Flip a coin and keep flipping it. What are the odds? Half the time it will come up heads, half the time tails. But in one freakish chance in a million, it'll land on its edge." That one in a million thing happened to me here at Joker's Wild, back when they still had a crap table. I had been at the table for ten or fifteen minutes. The minimum bet at the time was $1. I was standing in the first space to the left of the Stickman. The table was packed, the dice were choppy as they usually are. Even though I know better, I always cover the Any Craps bet on the Come Out. It's a sucker bet, surrendering an 11% edge to the House. But like many gamblers, I'm superstitious. For good luck I always bet the Any Craps on the Come Out. There was a new Shooter coming out, so I announced my bet and I flipped the Stickman a buck to cover the Any Craps. Incredibly the chip landed right in the little Any Craps circle, right on it's edge. The chip just stood there on its edge. It didn't wobble. It was stuck like glue. Everyone saw it. The whole table went nuts. People were shouting WTF dude? Did you try to do that? How did you do that? I was dumbfounded. I stared at the chip. I couldn't believe my eyes. The crew all looked at each other, then at me. The Pit Boss sized me up. The Stickman pushed the dice to the Shooter who proceeded to roll a six. My Any Craps bet lost. Before the Stick could remove my bet a player at the other end of the table shouted, "Dude, you've got to keep that bet up!" Instantly I knew he was right. There was some powerful magic happening and I needed to see where this was going. I dropped another buck on the felt and told the Stickman, "Back up on the Any Craps." Several people voiced affirmation of my decision. The Shooter got the dice back and rolled a 4. The Any Craps bet lost again. I had to throw in another dollar to keep the Any Craps bet live. The whole time this is happening, the chip continued to stand on its edge. The shooter rolled a six, then a five. With each roll I had to pony up another dollar. By now I'm down four or five bucks on this weird situation. The chip stood there unwavering. I hung in there for one more roll and then I finally let the bet go down. The Stickman picked up the coin and racked it. I heard a few players murmuring I should have kept the bet up, but I was ok with my decision. It was such a surreal experience. I didn't win any money, and unlike the guy in the Twilight Zone episode, I didn't gain the ability to read minds. It took me many years to actually understand how deeply this experience affected me. In fact, it wasn't until after I wrote the previous version of this review that I finally put it all together. See, I used to be obsessed with gambling. And I was oblivious to the fact that I was bad at it. Really, really bad. I would gamble away 5 or 6 hundred dollars every trip to Vegas, and I went four times a year, every year. I never came home with more than a few bucks in my pocket. But in the year after this crazy Twilight Zone experience that all changed. I suddenly came to realize how bad a gambler I was. I realized how stupid it was to spend so much money on something I truly sucked at. I still go to Vegas four times a year and I still gamble, but only for the lowest possible stakes. I almost never play craps or any table game. I have way more fun spending $20 or $30 playing penny slots than I ever did blowing hundreds at the crap table. But for this crazy experience at the crap table I would have probably never changed. I'd still be wasting thousands of bucks every year. It is a fun casino with a variety of machines. I enjoy the older machines with lower denominations and the penny poker. The food for dinner is hit or miss sometimes but breakfast has always been good and a great value. The covered parking is great during the summertime and more casinos should provide that in exterior lots. It is sad that it will be destroyed soon. I wish they would update and keep the signage and name as it is always nice to see it lit up at night. read more

It will do good at first because everyone will want to see the new place. The downside will be them changing the pay tables, which won't be for the better. Right now they are as good as can be found. An example will be watch the double double poker payouts. Five coin full house now pays 45 coins. It will go down to 40 and depending on the greed level, may go to 35. They have already cut down on the comps. Use to get a 25 dollar food credit every month. That is gone. Use to get 20 dollar free play every week. That's gone. The food situation needs to be fixed. The current menu is sooo limited. Might be back to emerald island for me if I feel too insulted by the greed that might ensue. What might help is if they go back to having a buffet. If they replace employees because they think they need more sex kittens running around? That may be a deal breaker too. I wish them luck. read more

After a handful of visits, I am still on the fence. It's ok, not great, but has potential. After my first visit, during which I joined the player's club, I received a postcard. They gave me $10 free play a week for July, and again a few months after that. I used it a few times, and won some, lost some. There are a few bars with gaming, and service was usually quick and friendly at the bars. I had trouble a few times downloading free play onto machines, due to the tempermental (and ancient) keypads. That was annoying enough to make me not want to return. If you like the old school casino vibe, it doesn't get much old schooler than JW! It's owned by Boyd Gaming, but they have a separate player's club. Kind of inconvenient! I hear a remodel is in the works, so stay tuned! read more

Jokers Wild is the closest casino to my home. I've come here several times, it's in a convenient location, and it's ok. They have a pretty nice space for a small casino, but the machines are not really kept up to date. At one point, I haven't come here for several months, and it looked "almost' exactly the same when I came back! Just a few games were added or moved around. The good thing to me, is that you can always find a machine to play because they are not that busy. Also, the cigarette smell is pretty bad but it's like this for almost every casino. For a small casino, I would think that the staff would be a bit friendlier, but nope. So far, every single time I've been here, probably about 20+ times, I have yet for any employee say hello or good luck. But I guess it's good for people who don't want to be bothered with any kindness. Lol. 0 stars if I could I was there tonight with my girlfriend and best friend. I went to order drinks but older gentleman in his 70s said I have to play in order to get drinks which is fine I get it. I was watching my girlfriend in a bonus on a slot machine and he goes up to me and says "you have to play so I can serve you." Totally understandable but he didn't offer drinks to the 2 people playing! I have yet to find a machine for myself. A lot of locals in Henderson prefer this casino. It sure is far away from the Strip and that kind of noise. Jokers Wild is one of the major casinos on the Boulder Strip. Has a restaurant known for country and Western style cheap food. This doesn't have a hotel so it's mainly here for locals as a hangout. It brings in people for the cheap gambling. Low minimums. They thankfully also aren't one of these cheap casinos that only have slots. Quite a few of those are around. This one actually has a good selection of table games and dealers who actually know what they're doing too. Many of the slots are older but they have lots of new ones. Things seem in working condition and there's some cheap ones too. A popular thing is the $1 craps. The food is the other attraction, and it brings in crowds especially mornings. Far location from the popular spots in Vegas make this a very popular casino for locals and it doesn't get much of a crowd. If you're coming to stay somewhere on the Boulder Strip, this doesn't have a hotel so you have to book elsewhere. The gambling is cheap and may be worth checking out. read more

Not liking how the waitress approached us yesterday. We have been playing there pretty much every other day and got upgraded to Saphire rewards level within a short amount of time. Usually, it's either one of us ordering a drink (there were also occasions when none of us order anything). Yesterday, we asked for two drinks. The waitress should remember us being repeat customers. She responded that per house policy only the person playing a game can get a free drink. We never had issues at any other casinos. Both casinos closed on 23rd. Doors padlocked from inside candance crossing & jokers. I notice a few customers like myself aimlessly walking around both casino parking lots at night. Daytime floor manager said no notification were sent for jokers closing for 2 days to swap over machines for candance opening. I went up there for my Freeplay couldn't get it. Waited 20 minutes for daytime manger to tell me no he couldn't give me Freeplay reimbursement. Told me I should have came back next day wtf. I went and picked up some dinner there last night. And let me tell you. I ordered a Mushroom burger with bacon. On it and the mushrooms look completely burned. I ordered the hamburger medium. It was over cooked. Alcohol at a hut depot. It was gross and then we ordered a brisket sandwich. All this stuff was. It's not, we spent $40 in the air. This is a cool little locals casino. I come here because its quiet, perfect size (not too small, not too colossal) and the prices are unbeatable. Played the tables, the pit boss didn't seem too friendly and the dealer seemed a bit bland and robotic but i still had fun. The Bars are a great place to hang out, however you cannot run a tab, each transaction has to be rung up separately. The bar has some good deals on drinks and food. The food is pretty good for the low price you pay. No Hotel here but this is a cool little get away spot. read more

Our local bar Remedy's was packed Friday evening so we decided to give this place a try. There was hardly anyone in the parking lot which felt weird, and even weirder walking in to see almost no patrons in a casino on a Friday night. Since it was our first time, we decided to sign up for the players club, because normally you receive some type of free play or promotion when signing up, but this was not the case here. You don't get anything for signing up. Not $5 free play, not a free drink or food, not even a lanyard for your players card. The woman that was signing us up was less than thrilled to be there to say the least, and even had the audacity to raise her voice at my husband when he inquired about getting his pin number set up. But, we let miserable people be miserable, so from there we went to the bar which was also empty. We played a bit there, ordered some drinks, and chatted with a nice Bartender named David. There is poker and keno from five cents to dollars available at the bar which was nice. After no luck at the bar we decided to venture out onto the casino floor and play some of the other games. We played and played and played from one end of the casino to the other, and it is not even an exaggeration to say that we did not win one bonus or even one good line win. I assume that was because there's hardly anyone there playing any of the machines, so they probably do not hit very often. After much defeat, we decided to get something to eat in the cafe. Nope, cafe closes at 8pm on Fridays. 8pm on Friday! With that said... Pros: Quiet and spacious. You have your reign of the place and can spread out an be comfortable, my husband loved that part (I did not). Cons: Quiet, almost dead. Been going here for 3 years now and the staff is great! My only complaint is the cashier booth. It seems every time I go to cash out it's " sorry gimme 15 minutes" or it seems like an inconvenience to them that they have to stop what they're doing and cash out my ticket. Not everyone in the cashier booth just several. I enjoy betting here and would still like to come here but when I'm trying to put in a bet before it starts I don't got "15 minutes" . After running into the casino from my car, I was immediately rushed by security, who demanded I take my hood off of my head. He was pretty rude and made me feel less than. I would have naturally taken the hood off if I had the chance to walk in. I am not happy that this was my first experience here. Great prime rib special here! You get a big piece plus vegetables and a starch for around $13. You also get access to a very extensive salad bar that has some dessert options and a soup. It's an old building, it's obvious. It doesn't smell to strongly of smoke for a casino though. It smelled clean and I liked that. The bar area was nice, we had dinner at the Cafe and it was good, not great, normal diner food. Mostly I'm writing this review for the bathrooms by the bar. I think the person who designed them was colorblind. Nothing was awful in itself, but NOTHING in that bathroom matched anything else. It was like a bathroom straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Among the local's casinos, we visit in our area. We don't go to the strip often; only when visitors stay there... This and Eldarado are nice and the staff is very friendly. The cafes are both great. Nice to have the Daily Specials back at both locations. The seasonal/holiday specials are the most affordable in the area. Well, now the bad side. The new management has discounted multipliers. It makes it difficult to build points to use for cashing in and/or using for meal comps. And the minimum points for most any kiosk game or comp is 100 base points. This sure has cut down on the people we see going to claim giveaways or playing kiosk games. Wonder if this has driven away any of the players? When we go out to Henderson, which is about 3 - 6 times a year, we usually make sure we stop at the Joker's for a spell. They definitely have the BEST MARGARITAS. I also love that they have a little snack bar by the bar that serves shrimp cocktails and pretzels. By the way, the shrimp cocktail w/sauce is fantastic. We used to eat here all the time but they were going through some transition and it's just wasn't as good. Now they are on the ball. The jokers features a lot of penny games for the cheapskates and the ladies come around with the drinks........which is always tops in my book. This lockdown really makes me miss when my friends and I decide to take a tour of the Henderson casinos which always includes this place. They have maybe 6 to 8 table games all at low limits along with a $3 craps table which is always packed. Not sure how that will work with new social distancing standards but was always good times. They have an adequate number of slot machines for the available space. They do have a restaurant and sports book. Far from the nicest property around but the gambling is ok and no one ever bothered me while on property so for those of you who value safety you might give it a look. read more
