My dress had arrived late (I ordered from a different place) - 6 weeks before my wedding but Susan was able to fit me in her schedule and get started on alterations right away. My dress was strapless but I felt the need to have my shoulders covered in church and she was able to add sleeves made from tulle that were removable! These straps made my dress feel complete, and I was so happy to have something unique about my dress. My bustle was GORGEOUS she had included I believe 7 bustle buttons - and my very layered Cinderella-like dress stayed up in the bustle the ENTIRE night! (Ever been to a wedding where the bride holds her dress because the bustle fell?) My mother's dress arrived 3 weeks before the wedding (again, from a different shop) and Susan made sure she was able to fit my mom in as well. Turned out that the dress the other shop had ordered was way too small for my mom - and 5 days before the wedding my mom decided to can it. Mom couldn't even sit in the dress!! Luckily - Susan had a dress available in her shop that fit my mother perfectly!! She was able to make some small adjustments that night and 3 days before my wedding my mother FINALLY had a dress! I honestly do not know what we would have done if we hadn't gone to Susan for alterations. She is clearly knowledgeable about gown alterations - and creative! She was able to quickly find a solution to a huge problem for us. I am so grateful for this and I have been back to her shop many times since. I've had 2 other dresses for other weddings altered since and Susan hasn't let me down! I walked in completely clueless on a whim, tactlessly not making an appointment, and even though it was Juan's lunchbreak he still immediately took the time to see me and work with me. I'll be coming back with more items soon. All the suits were cleaned and pressed nicely and none smell like chemicals, which is a common problem with other dry cleaners. Also, I brought in one suit that needed repair. It had snagged threads in the pant leg. It's a Brooks Brothers navy suit with subtle pinstripes. I was considering giving away the suit because of the damage, but it's only 2 years old and I don't want to part with it yet. So on a lark, I brought the suit in to see if Alexander's could work some magic. And they did not disappoint. Of about 10 snags in that pant leg, all but 1 was made to disappear completely. The remaining snag was significantly reduced. I am so happy. (And I suspect that the remaining snag will only be noticeable to pets or children under 3 feet tall!) Also, when I dropped the damaged suit off for repair, they insisted on not charging me for the de-snagging, but I would not hear it and left an extra $20. You get what you pay for, and I wanted magic, so I was not about to settle for free magic. Hope that makes sense! Thank you, Alexander's for being a welcoming, caring, helpful local small business.
