When I first came to Jon, I was nervous about getting my photos taken, because I had always looked awkward in pictures in the past. After working with him and then seeing the results, I realized that this was simply because nobody ever showed me how to be comfortable in front of a camera. Jon is the master of that. About a week ago I had a great photo shoot with Jon. As he promises, it will be fun! I needed shots for an online dating profile. I had some taken that were very nice but were "portrait-y." I needed something more casual. It's hard to find someone to capture you in what should appear to be a candid moment but without the technical pitfalls that a friend's shot might have. Jon does this very well. He does sometimes provoke you unexpectedly to capture a true smile or laugh. He also uses the three-hour time block to efficiently photograph you in many situations. I had three shots in his studio and then about 4 more taken outside "on location" on nearby Moody Street or inside a local cafe. One thing I noticed is that he keeps shooting until he feels he has nailed it. When Jon and I reviewed the shots quickly after the shoot, it was reassuring to me that we both liked the same photos. My experience with Jon was awful. We were doing a shoot for my online dating profile. I assumed we would discuss the types of pictures I wanted. We never had that discussion and Jon simply picked up the camera and started taking pictures of me. What he didn't know is that I am terrified of having my picture take and find the process incredibly uncomfortable. I did not get the pictures I wanted and the pictures he took were just okay. Honestly, I have pictures taken by family and friends that are better. Jon never explained his process to me and the longer he took my picture, the more my discomfort grew. It was an absolutely terrible experience for me. I wish Jon would have taken the time to speak with me beforehand, as I was told he would. Sorry Jon, but you need to listen to your customers and make them feel comfortable. read more

I hired Jon to photograph my husband's surprise 60th birthday party which I had a on a boat. I couldn't be happier! From beginning to end, it was a fantastic experience. I contacted Jon months before the party and I enjoyed talking to him. He's warm and funny and serious about the work he does. We talked a few more times over the course of a few months with weekly contact leading up to the big day.
