I am a Physical Therapist and have the opportunity to do postop rehab for quite a few Dr. Frank's patients some years ago. He uses innovative techniques - esp. for shoulder rotator cuff surgery that do not require prolonged immobilization which tends to freeze the shoulder. This results in a much shorter rehabilitation time for the patient, who can get back to their active lifestyle more than 50 % faster than the traditional postop immobilizer protocols which often have a rehab time of about 6 months or more in some cases. read more

Dr. Jonathan Frank was magnificent. I saw him 03July2020 for knee pain. I am a very active athlete, so I did my research making sure I found the best doctor in order to get me back on my feet, and it surely paid off. The office visit was very short. The receptionist addressed me immediately and answered all my initial questions with the paperwork. After a 7 minute wait, I was called into the doctors office. Dr. Frank very open to hearing my case and background with my knee pain. He performed many physical assessments in order to rule out anything it may not be. He had a suspicion it was patellar tendonitis. He had me get an MRI and it came back conclusive to his prediction. He also listened and addressed every single question I had with a smile; and I had quite a few. I have dealt with my knee pain for almost 1.5 years, which lead me to being debilitated from any sports, running, or physical activities involving my legs. Dr. Frank highly recommended a PRP injection in order to help the healing process of my tendon along with physical therapy. The injection was the very best decision I could have made. He is a firm believer in it and so am I. I only received 1 injection although you can have up to 3. After 4 weeks following the injection, I started to notice my pain and "weakness" in my knee subside. Coupled with PT, I haven't been this confident in moving around, getting out of a chair, or walking down steps in over a year. It's currently been ONLY 6 weeks and I'm starting to go on hikes, play tennis, lift weights (with my legs), and live the active life i've been missing. I can't recommend the PRP injection enough. I tore my ACL beginning of the year and saw Dr. Frank for my procedure. The MD himself is fantastic. I loved his bedside manor and how he explained things to me. My complaint is with his office. Staff overall just seems incompetent. My claim was submitted to insurance and was missing critical pieces of information. I also had to do a lot of the heavy work myself contacting insurance because I could not for the life of me get this office to return my calls. I knew for 4 days that my insurance had declined the request but no one ever called to tell me form the doctor's office. I called and was honestly not very nice to his assistant, which I feel bad for now, but I was so frustrated. Dr Frank called me personally and chatted with me. Overall, I didn't feel comfortable with the incompetency/lack of response with his office to go through with surgery. He understood and gave me referrals/his email for me to contact if I needed anything. The doctor himself made this experience better for me, I would recommend the doctor, but not the office. read more

with the exception of my surgery being improperly scheduled and needing to be rescheduled 3 days before Christmas, this has been a super positive experience. Saw Dr Frank early last year for a torn rotator cuff. He explained surgery was the only option, it was completely torn. I was concerned about having surgery at that time because work was insane and i'm self employed. Dr Frank gave me a prp shot in my shoulder and it was great and lasted 7 months. I believe it would've lasted longer but a massage set off the nerve pain and made it evident i couldn't put this off any longer. I set the surgery for early december as work would be quieter. Dr Frank has a great attitude and is very patient in explaining. Dr Frank did the surgery quickly to minimize more inflammation in the area. I wont lie and say it was painless, but I was expecting it to be worse. Follow ups w the dr and lots of PT and my shoulder progressed faster than anyone expected. I still have to do some exercises to keep the shoulder limber, but im no longer in pain in that area. read more

If I could give Dr. Frank and his staff at Beverly Hills Orthopedic Institute 10 stars I would. I contacted Dr. Frank via email in January 2019 and asked for a case review. I was 7 momths post op from bilateral hip scopes and labrum repairs. The previous surgeon had did MRIs in Nov 2018, then kicked me to the curb. I was still in tremendous about of pain. Dr. Frank was great! He reviewed everything and instead of emailing me back, he called me before going into a surgery. Low and behold Dr. Frank said the MRIs were not pk, and he would need MRAs to confirm his findings. I called his office set up appts, they made arrangements for MRAs on both hips STAT. I traveled 2400 miles from Ann Arbor, MI to L.A. for these MRAs followed by a New Patient Eval. I was so nervous, given my previous surgeons office was always rude and dropping the ball. I had read previous post about poor staff and rudenesswith Dr. Frank & office. Then found out he has switched to a different practice with ALL new staff. The MRAs were done and I was sent straight to Dr. Frank. I knew when I left the imaging center the news was not going to be good. My anxiety was in high gear. I walked into the office and was greeted with respect. Kindness. Compassion. Dr. Frank broke the news to me. It was crushing. But, Dr. Frank ordered MRIs on my back and right knee to make sure my issues were from my hips. I had them done before leaving L.A. Dr. Frank called me in Ann Arbor to confirm that my issues were in my hips, and that was causing the pain. I believe in giving credit where it's due. Dr Frank and Beverly Hills Orthopedic Institute have bent over backwards to order testing, get me properly diagnosed, and to the correct specialized surgeons that do hip revision surgeries. I have some of the names of top hip revision surgeons that Dr. Frank knows and trained with across the country. Dr. Frank even contacted one of the surgeons about my case and help facilitate a med eval in Chicago. I am trying my best to delay surgery. I spoke with Dr. Frank at length about alternative routes to control the amount of pain I'm constantly in. I had several options, both covered and out of pocket. I chose to do PRP in each hip, and a H.A. injection in right knee. Again, the Staff aranged everything. My anxiety kicked into higg gear because it would happen at a surgery center, sedated. But, I'm glad I went with Dr. Frank's plan. It allowed him to get into the exact spot for PRP into the hips. I was edated so I didn't feel the pain of the needles. Everyone agreed given my anxiety and high pain levels this was the best plan. Dr. Frank called me 5 days before the procedure to calm my nerves. He is one of the most compassionate surgeons I have every met. Dr. Frank can't do revision surgeries. But, it doesn't stop him from being compassionate, listening, and treating me non surgical until I'm ready to have surgery again. read more

I don't even know where to start. First of all I went in for my ankle and shoulder but they told me I had authorization for should only. Turns out they were wrong I had it for both and I had to schedule a second visit for my ankle, instead of just getting it over with that day. I ended up going in for my ankle on May 9 which was approximately a month after I went in for my shoulder. They were supposed to submit for an MRI for my Shoulder and therapy for my ankle and told me I'd get a letter in the mail. After not receiving anything, I tried to call there office several times and kept getting the run around. I decided to call my insurance directly and found out that both had barely been submitted today. Absolutely inexcusable. On top of all this, Dr. Frank himself was not very friendly or personable. That alone isn't really a big deal, as long as you do your job correctly you don't need be nice, but his office is just bad all around. read more

This is the second time I went to Dr Jonathan Franks office in Glendale Ca and after waiting nearly 2 hours in the waiting room I was then told that the doctor was on call in surgery. I can understand when a Doctor is an on call surgeon and when duty calls you must answer but the office and the doctor need to communicate with each other better and give patients a heads up phone call letting the patients know that the doctor will not be available to see patients in the office that day or to be told to come In at a later appointment and avoid making us wait for hours and wasting everyone's time. Myself and a lot of others were very upset in the office today. This is the second time this problem has occurred when I have gone in to the office for my visit and was told to wait for the doctor until he arrives. I waited 30 min the first time and the second the doctor could not make it all. The decent thing to do is let the patient know so they dont drive all the way to be told that they have to go back. I would like to thank Dr. Frank for taking good care of me . Had severe pain on my right knee and at times I wouldn't be able to walk for days or sleep at night . I've had numerous injections from past Doctors all that did was ease the pain temporarily. Dr. Frank recommended arthroscopic of the knee and I'm glad I did it , recovery time was so quick that I walked my dog the day after surgery . My knee feels amazing And I have literally no pain he also recommended therapy 3 times a week which I'm doing . I was referred to Dr Frank by my primary physician after I tore my ACL during a ski trip. When I called the office, the staff what very helpful and friendly over the phone. They were able to contact my insurance and get an authorization fairly quickly. I don't remember the young lady's name (started with a P?), but she was knowledgeable and sympathetic towards my injury. During my initial consultation, Dr Frank was patient and fully explained everything and really helped alleviate my anxiety about surgery. His professional demeanor and confidence gave me full faith in his skills. This young doctor is incredibly talented. He repaired my knee with precision and efficiency. The most unprofessional experience I'm ever had!! I originally saw Dr. Frank 3 months ago after he had me get MRIs and X-Rays of both knees ($$$$). He recommended surgery, then said his staff would contact my insurance then me to set something up. That was 3 months ago!! No one has called me. I can't get through to anyone who can give me answers, they see nothing in my chart. They take my name and say someone will call, but no one does. I finally made another apt to see him again, just so I could get the ball rolling. again. After waiting almost a month and a half- getting a babysitter and showing up to his office for my appt, there's a note on the door that says he and his staff are out today!!!! I even called his office earlier to confirm directions to his office "for my appointment at 1" - his staff gave me directions and I drove the 40+ minutes to get there, just to find the note saying he's gone and to call the SAME number I had just called for directions for details.. I'm literally baffled at how disorganized and disconnected Dr. Fank's office is. After this experience, I wouldn't trust him with directions to grocery store let alone surgery on my body!!! This whole place has got to be a scam. Blown away that a "Professional" would run a business this way. read more

I had recently written a review that was not very favorable about Dr. Frank. After thinking about everything I really was blaming Dr. Frank for things that are clearly out of his control! My anger should have been directed at my insurance company and my previous Dr. who had assured me he would call Dr. Frank prior to my appointment. These insurance companies make it impossible for Doctors to treat their patients. They make them see 60 plus patients a day. Dr. Frank left a message on my cell and I was thinking " oh dear, he is going to be upset". That was the FURTHEST thing from the truth. We spoke for 30 minutes and not once did he ask me to remove the post. He apologized profusely for what happened that day. He made no excuses, but did enlighten me about issues that are clearly, clearly beyond his control.After speaking at length I can see that this is a Dr. that truly, truly cares about his patients. It is frustrating for him because the insurance companies dictate the number of patients he sees in a day. That is just the tip of the iceberg. I have never heard a more compassionate, sincere, kind Doctor in my life. I should not have been so hasty in my review. I should have got home, relaxed and slept on it before jumping on my computer.
