I was referred to Dr. Allison by Dr. Thomas Ferro, my knee replacement orthopedist. A cancer had eaten about a third of the thickness of my left femur. No one local wanted to touch it. Dr. Allison went in, scraped out the cancer and installed a rod down the center of the bone. This was to prevent the bone from displacing if it broke. A couple of months later, I fell and the bone broke. Unfortunately, the bone did not join as it should have. In March, Dr. Allison went in and cleaned up the break and installed a larger rod. I am gradually regaining full weight bearing on that leg. More physical therapy yet. He really is the guy they send the tough ones to. read more

Dr. Allison has been my primary orthopedic surgeon treating me for injuries sustained in a head on collision. My knee suffered tremendous damage and complications of heterotopic bone growth. I believe that there are very few surgeons that could have or would have taken my case due to its complexity, but these are the cases that Dr. Allison was meant for. Dr. Allison is clearly brilliant and knowledgeable, but his ability to connect and truly take the time to know you as his patient is what sets him apart from his peers. I am a 78 year old woman and have had rheumatoid arthritis for 63 years, and have severe osteoporosis. Dr Allison is an amazing Dr and surgeon. He is actually concerned, compassionate, caring, and incredibly capable. I had a hip replacement done by another Dr and needed a revision because of the metal on metal implant. I had a reaction that that caused the bone surrounding the implant to erode, de-stabilizing the implant. I saw three other Drs who wouldn't touch it. I was referred to a colleague of Dr Allison's when he was at USC who in turn consulted with Dr Allison. I'm so thankful that he was brought in on my case. Once in a life time you come across a Doctor & it stunts you with how good they are. You wish that, this is how all doctors should be. Then you come back to reality that, this will never be the case. Dr Allison is caring / takes him time with each patient / Doesn't rush you to surgery / most importantly he is also great at what he does. His card has been sitting on my desk to write a review for few months, but I just was not able to put my appreciation in words. He changed my mom's quality of life. We went to few other Doctors to get my mom's hip checked & as soon as they pretty much walked into a room, first thing was pushing the surgery. Almost Like we were at a retail store & the sale was about to finish in 10 minutes on black Friday. In a way felt like we were dealing with sales people in a rush versus Doctors. After some research I came across Dr Allison. On our first visit the fact that he took his time and listen to us till we had nothing to say was Amazing and a fresh breath of air. Then he went ahead and explained to us in detail what our options were. He actually didn't push the surgery at all, wanted that as a last option. Months past mom went to therapy. Things were up & down with her pain level. Each visit the Dr Allison took his time gave us our options & never pushed anything on us. Explained to her the therapy will help her recover better, when we decide to have the surgery. This played a large roll on my moms results. Finally the pain came to a point, where it was not tolerable. When we visited Dr Allison & let him know we were ready for the surgery. He again took his time talk to us & made sure my mom understood all the risks with the surgery, made sure she was ready for this. When we had questions weeks before the surgery & emailed the Doctor. I was great getting an email back with the answer to our questions. Surgery was back in October 2015, no surprise to anyone reading this review. The day of the surgery, again he was very attentive from the start to the end. The visits in the hospital after the surgery & the office visits was the same. Dr. Daniel Allison is a great surgeon. He performed a High Tibial Osteotomy on my right knee. He corrected the angle of my knee by 12 degrees. The pain was mich less than I expected. Dr Allison was very attentive to my requests even when I was demanding a cold therapy machine even though it was not his fault for the delay it was the insurance comoanies fault. Dr. Allison personally made sure I received a cold therapy machine using his personal credit card. My knly complaint is the office is very sliw in getting workers comp requests sent to the workers comp adjuster. read more

His skillful talent and knowledge about complicated orthopedic procedures is what drew me to him in the first place. I was more than delighted with his compassionate bedside manner, thorough evaluation and time devoted to my care. I have since been back to Dr. Allison for another complicated surgery when my healing hip/femur split in half and fractured. I suffered a severe tibial fracture that required one of the largest bone graphs imaginable as well as the implanting of a metal support structure from my knee to my ankle. Outstanding surgery and result! My knee seems stronger than other parts of my aging body. Another factor to mention is the surgery was done without the use of ANY BLOOD TRANSFUSION by this doctor who respected my wishes. A professional indeed. I am grateful to have him as my doctor. Dr Allison performed a meniscus knee surgery together with Dr Gabriel on me 2 weeks ago. I was in cedars for just a few hours and was released home. Since then (apart from the headaches probably resulted from anesthesia ) I had not experienced a minute of pain. I had total hip replacement surgery in February of 2019. My hip was in bad shape after a 40 year old procedure that involved the insertion of screws into the hip joint when I was a child. Two other orthopedic surgeons had recently evaluated me. One of them said the surgery would be too complex and beyond his ability, so he referred me to Doctor Allison. Not only did Dr. Allison prove he was capable, skilled and competent, he also demonstrated how invested he is in patient care. I was shocked at how accessible Dr. Allison made himself. I received personalized care, follow up phone calls and messages from Dr. Allison that made me feel like i was not just another patient. I agree with the previous review 100%. Doctor Allison is a once- in-a-lifetime find. I have had a rough and tumble life that has landed me into numerous doctors' offices. I've never had such a complete and satisfying experience as I've had with Dr. Allison. Not even close. It's hard to convey the level of expertise and warmth that he provides without experiencing it for yourself. I was in a terrible hit-and-run motorcycle accident in November of 2012. I shattered my femur, my wrist and sustained a permanent injury to my brachial plexus. I was rushed to Cedars Sinai. It was about 22 hours before I was able to get into surgery. Needless to say, I was really uncomfortable and starting to lose my patience. The moment Dr. Allison walked in a calm came over me. I was immediately at ease. He doesn't even have to speak. That's the type of care, concern and confidence this man carries with him. After a challenging and flawless surgery, my wrist and femur were reconstructed. The orthopedic director stopped in to check on his work and was beaming about the new talent that had joined their team. It seems I wasn't the only person that this guy left a good impression on. I followed up with Dr. Allison for months, during which I made an amazing recovery. My leg is stronger than before and I was able to continue rock climbing at a high level, which puts considerable strain on the wrist. After some time, my insurance switched over and he fell out of my network. Over three years have passed since I last saw him. I've had the normal bare minimum care I've come to expect from the medical industry since then. After sustaining yet another injury that required surgery from another doctor and the nagging nerve injury from my old motorcycle accident, I decided it was time to go see the best of the best again...regardless of my insurance. From the moment he walked into my room I knew this is where I should've been all along. He reevaluated my old injuries and evaluated my last surgery. He took his time with everything and remembered me and my 3 year-old story like it had happened a week before. The relief I experienced having someone of his level of expertise and genuine investment in my optimal state of well-being was almost overwhelming. I can't say enough about this man. I don't give top ratings to medical providers casually -- I've never given 5 stars, or anything equivalent, before. But honestly, I've been blown away by how skilled, conscientious, kind, and responsive Dr. Allison has been. He replaced both my left and right knees (separate surgeries) at Cedars Sinai. My procedures have both been very successful (still healing from the right knee surgery now), and I'm getting mobility back. Though there's no possibility of knee replacement without some pain, the recovery has been less brutal than I expected. Inter-personally, he's just startlingly compassionate, doesn't seem to have the slightest bit of the arrogance that tends to typify his profession, always listens patiently (even when obviously busy), and is obviously unhappy if his patients are not well-treated by hospital staff or his colleagues. He returns messages, follows through on details, and takes the time to explain anything I've wanted to understand. Dr Daniel Allison is Absolutely Amazing!! I believe He saved my mom's life. She had Cancer in her Shin 4years ago and it traveled to her thigh. The doctors at Saint Joseph hospital had no idea what it was. Dr Allison was brought to us by god, he walked in the door with such confidence and poise. His bedside manner was off the charts, he made my mom feel comfortable in knowing he was going to find the answer to what was going on and he did. It was Cancer (Sarcoma) he jumped into action. The best way to stop this cancer from traveling to anywhere else in her body was to Amputate the leg. He did an Amazing job! Through out the whole surgery he had a nurse updated us every two hours to let us know how the surgery was going. He is so passionate about his job! I think you'll notice a trend on this page - folks with significant, complicated Ortho problems that others don't want to deal with. I am no different - having vascular malformations since I was a child (AVM and VM) with subsequent joint damage throughout my left elbow and forearm. Things started to feel different this year so I went to Dr. Allison to get updated opinions. Though we are not pursuing aggressive treatment at this time, he has spent the last 3-4 months helping me navigate numerous specialists, leaving no stone unturned in terms of knowing all my options. I cannot speak to his actual surgical skills at this time - I can, however, tell you that I have never had a surgeon who was willing to spend so much time and care to help on my case. My goal back in January was to know that I am doing the right things for my arm and I have full confidence that I now have all the information I need to make the best decisions. It's too bad there's not a doctor like him in Bakersfield, where I live. Unlike many doctors, he takes his time, explains things, and doesn't act like he thinks he is God, like the doctors in my area do. I spent 3 months trying to find out what was wrong.
