The pool is heated but often doesn't feel that way. The deck area is very nice. One suggestion would be to provide lockers by the pool. Hillside campground does this efficiently and it takes up very little deck space. The cafe used to be one of our highlights but no more. In the past they had friendly servers take your order. But now you have to order at the counter and wait to be called. The dinner menu is very mediocre. But their breakfast choices are very good. The restaurant doesn't open until 9am so if you are an early riser, bring a box of cereal. Cabins are clean. Restrooms and showers are decent. For the dance on our last visit the music wasn't working for the crowd. Nobody dancing for the first hour. However, it did get better as the night went on. If you want a camping experience that dwarfs Jones Pond, check out Hillside campground in PA. An amazing non-stop Mardi Gras feel. If you want a low key weekend, Jones Pond is an acceptable option. But when you compare it to other gay campsites, it's somewhat vanilla. Not a bad place. Just not sensational. read more

Jones Pond is branded as "Gay Camping At Its Best" and is a 100+ acres facility located deep in the Southern Tier of Western New York (Angelica, NY to be exact). The grounds offer a variety of options for your camping pleasure that include a guest house, cabins, bunk houses and a number of tent sites. Being part of the LGBT Community in WNY I've heard many things about this place and all were on the raunchy side however since obtaining new ownership, I don't know how many years ago I've also heard that things have turned around. Located approximately 1.5 hours from Buffalo and Rochester I have to say that I was truly impressed pulling up to the main building. As you enter the grounds you will pass the owner's house and pull up to front of several buildings, parking off to the side and walking into the first building you find a convenience store and registration desk. As per the usual be sure to stop in and get yourself signed into grounds, looking around you'll notice the barn, café and pool area. Upon being checked in it's time to explore the park! Being that there are different theme parties each weekend and obviously besides the seasonal there are a variety of people that go, my entire group found everyone very friendly and welcoming and offering advice, HI's, hello's and waves all along the way. 4 of my group stayed in one of the bunk houses which is located across from the laundry mat and shower area, I must say the fact that there is a laundry facility is great! BUT the fact that there is a real bathroom with individual showers and real toilets made it even better. I'm not the most outdoorsy type of person and have used out houses before but the creature comforts definitely help when you spend a few nights in a tent. The bunk house themselves are totes adorable and larger than I expected, the bunk beds are set to one side and building into the building, in an open format so they are sturdy and appear to be large as a double. These are communal shares so in the event you don't book the full bunk house like we did you may end up sharing the building with other campers however individual lockers are provided to protect your belongings. These buildings also provide a picnic table on the deck. I am most surprised with how clean they are, not just the inside but the outside as there were no cobwebs, wasp nets or other such creature "comforts" that you see with most lodging, to be at least this was a sign that they management really takes care of their facilities. The same could be said for the shower house, clean as a whistle inside and house. For my part I ended up staying in a tent site in the 500 region which is called Creekside because, well you are camped up along a creek. This area is nice due to it providing a lot of shade with all the trees; for the most part we didn't find this area very buggy even though much of the area is damp. The dampness didn't even really affect us either, so although near the creek bed you aren't swimming in water and the sites had power and water which was nice due to my need of a C-PAP machine at night. There is also a fair amount of seclusion so when you need to step back from the facilities you aren't over run by other campers. I was not able to drive the entire site like I had wanted and there are a variety of options available to fit your needs. A few words to the wise I would say is 1) wear comfortable foot wear, you will do lots of walking (sober and drunk) and if you hit "cardiac hill" a few times you'll know why. (my calves are killing me) 2) bring a flash light, once the sun sets the back area is DARK, more than once I walked around in the darkness hoping not to fall and/or run into a golf cart. 3) BYOB, although all the parties occur at the main bar there is no bar. 4) Have fun and be respectful of the other campers and Mother Nature, pickup after yourself and leave the site, the barn, the poolside how you would like to find it. 5) Nudity is allowed in certain areas so don't get spooked by it LOL read more

This is an all gay campground and a big one with around 175 sites, most with water and electric, a bunk house, a large recreational building and a decent size pool. As gay campgrounds go, this is a particular good one, having an extremely friendly staff generally drawing its crowd from the Buffalo and Rochester areas but with plenty of transient or traveling drop in individual; a good number even coming from Canada. Being located in the north, it's seasonal and even during the summer months has some rather iffy weather conditions. As a gay campground, it is well run, neat, clean, organized and orderly. They have the usual theme weekends such as Cowboy, Friends and Family (at which nudity is band), Bear County, Levi-Leather, Mardi Gras and etc.; all of which are a lot of fun. As gay campgrounds go, however, Jones Pond isn't reputed to be one of the more wild party types; being somewhat conservative and reserved. Indeed, along that line they may be trying to live down a reputation of what the place was like under its original gay ownership or the tales and vicious rumors linger of my camping presence. read more

The Good: Very friendly owners, staff, and campers, good food at the cafe, RV sites are very far apart and you feel like you have a lot of elbow room. The Bad: NO HEAT IN THE SHOWER HOUSE, If you are going to be open in the fall, have heat in the shower house please. This place is NOT big rig friendly, it has a very narrow entrance, narrow lanes and the site I was on had a deep ditch on each side of the campsite entrance making it difficult to park my camper. No gate on the dog park, so I could not let my dog off his leash. No hot tub, Poor wifi accessibility due to being out in the middle of nowhere. This had to be the muddiest campground I have ever stayed in, even just walking the dogs on the lawn they came back with mud on their paws, the lanes are muddy, etc. read more

The campground itself is great. There are some amenities that could be updated better, like the bathroom maintenance. Which the owners Matt and Bryan are constantly working on improving. Be sure to offer suggestions, they are open to hearing them. The cabins are great! We've never stayed in the bunkhouse because of the small space. Great for a group of friends. The community is amazing both seasonals and campers. You can have a lot of fun there. This was our backyard to hang with our friends. The owners Bryan and Matt have been doing a lot to improve the campgrounds. If you're just going for a weekend or already a seasonal; as a couple, we want our vacations to be positive and spend time with People we love. This is a great community to spend it with. read more

Good campground, but first time visitors may want to stay away from euchre weekend. My husband and I had taken a few day trips to Jones Pond and enjoyed it enough to try an overnight stay. We chose the camp's annual euchre (a Midwestern-ish card game) tournament weekend since we both like to play and thought it sounded like a good way to get to know some of the guys who are regulars at the camp. Also, the proceeds would be donated to charity. Maybe we should have known better than to put ourselves in a room full of strangers to play a competitive card game, but in our family euchre is about having fun as much as it is friendly competition. Many of the guys there were great and seemed to feel the same way, but more than a few were so rudely competitive they would blatantly scold you at the table if you made a mistake during play. I don't know if some of these folks were counting on winning to pay their rent or what, but trust me when I say, you have not been berated until you are lectured by an eye-rolling late twenty-something wearing a cotton onesie. The tournament is set up so that everyone plays 6 games. My husband and I were not at the same table, which was fine. After 3 games, 2 of which left me feeling horrible, I assumed my husband was having a much better time, mainly because he's better at the game. But when I found him at the break he said he was having the same experience! By the time a surly bro insulted me for a choice I made during game 6, I was ready to ask the organizers to find someone to take my place. If there had been a game 7 I would have. I gutted through to the end as did my husband, who ironically won a free weekend for next season. But good player or so-so player, it didn't seem to make a difference in how we got treated by a few of these guys. We walked back to our cabin shaking our heads and trying to figure out what happened. We have been to many gay vacation venues and usually leave with long-term friendships. The only thing we felt like we left Jones Pond with was the feeling that we weren't very welcome and PTSD. Okay, maybe not PTSD. We are sad about how the weekend went since it was the closest thing we got to a vacation this year. Our free time is limited, so we were hoping to have found a good getaway fit for us that was close by. We like the campground. It is clean and well run. Our cabin was convenient and comfortable. The staff is great, and despite our awkward tournament experience, the event was well organized. And though we didn't end up getting to know as many people as we thought we might, there were some genuinely friendly campers here and there. Obviously the camp isn't to blame for a few (probably inevitable) rude guests. But newcomers, be forewarned about attending the annual euchre tournament if you haven't visited Jones Pond before. For us, the five or so grumps we encountered were enough to short circuit fun to be had and put us off attending the other social events for the weekend, which is saying something because I love me some bingo. I suspect there are more positive and relaxing event weekends better suited for getting to know Jones Pond and the people there. If you go, hopefully you find that to be true. read more

I have been a regular weekend camper at Jones Pond for about five years. From my point of view, this is a high quality gay campground! Sometimes I like to socialize. Other times, I like to relax with a book. There are tent sites that draw a party atmosphere and others that are shady and secluded. There are different age groups that mix at Jones Pond and almost everyone is friendly. Those visiting for a weekend are welcome to participate in the activities and parties. Four time a year, groups of seasonal campers have open parties (Block parties) with food and drink and ALL are welcome. There is not a charge, but there are games and raffles to participate in - the proceeds reimburse the cost and the remainder donated to local charities such as SPCA, Camp Good Day and Special Times, etc. On holiday weekends there are shows - often Drag shows with very talented performers. Dances, weekly bingo - plenty to do! Jones Pond has been a gay campground since 1990 and in the distant past has had both negative and positive stories attached to it depending on who you talk to. From my experience beginning in 2011, this campground has been stable and well managed. As a result they have established a pleasant, fun campground with a strong sense of community. My new husband likes it as much as I do and we decided to purchase a camper located on a seasonal site. read more

I've been a seasonal camper at Jones Pond for several years now and i have to say you will not find a better atmosphere or group of guys anywhere. Themed Weekends, Cocktail parties, award winning drag / talent shows and weekend nightly dances are just some of the many activities available for campers. All of the campers are always willing to help out each other and the community. Campers Collect thousands of dollars throughout the year to support local charities in addition to supporting and hosting 6 block parties. The owners Bryan and Matt are truly amazing, they work to ensure the safety, enjoyment and entertainment of each and every camper in the park. Every year they are constantly improving the park. Some of the recent improvements include 50A electric service at many sites as well as high speed Wifi. The cafe at Jones Pond serves amazing food and service like what you'd expect to find at modern bistros or pubs.
