    Summer Salad with grilled shrimp

I have been going to the Avenue Pub since 2009. Lots of great memories, friends made, and the most welcoming people I've met. The drinks are great, and the food is amazing! Katie's kitchen always satisfies! All of the bartenders are great! I, and many of my friends call The Avenue Pub "the LGBTQ+ Cheers!" So many memories have been made there. I am so glad to see that the new owner is making some much-needed improvements too. Taco Tuesday is back, Karaoke has returned, it's a great place to just be yourself! And everyone is welcome! It will always be my second home!

Ellis is simply the best. He is attentive, just the best bar tender in town. Cute little friendly place too!

For years, I had no issues--until one of the security guards, an older light-skinned man with dreadlocks who has worked there forever, began targeting me for no reason. On multiple occasions he acted aggressive and confrontational toward me, even though I never raised my voice or reacted negatively. The last incident was the worst. He disrespected me in a way no customer should ever experience, threatened to "f** me up,"* and had me banned despite the fact that I never did anything to him. His hostility seems to stem from the fact that he doesn't like someone I happen to associate with--someone who also never disrespected him. What makes this even more concerning is that the owner appears to allow this type of behavior. I've seen this guard act out for years, and instead of correcting it, it feels like it's been encouraged. Many people I know have had negative experiences at this bar, and some have even lost their lives due to the environment created when drug activity is allowed inside. I've spent thousands of dollars here over the last 17 years, and never have I been disrespected the way I was by someone who is supposed to ensure customer safety. I considered speaking to the owner directly, but based on what I've witnessed, I truly believe she condones this behavior from her staff. After nearly two decades of loyalty, I can confidently say I will never return.

Edited a minute ago New…read moreUpon entering the establishment, the security guard took our IDs and he was holding a high-alcohol content beer, Hayburner, in one hand, and holding our ID's with the other. He seemed angry when my brother asked if our ID's had to be scanned, and really seemed to snap at my brother, but we shrugged it off and he scanned them and we went on with our night. Throughout the night, the security guard continued drinking these Hayburners. My brother and I were enjoying our evening, had not once had any issue with another patron or the bar, and we were in mid-conversation about piano, when I felt the guard standing behind me. He was just standing behind me, staring my brother down. It was a scary feeling. My brother, who has worked in the industry for 20 years, asked if everything was okay. The security guard approached my brother and started pushing him saying "Everything is okay with me is everything okay with you??" And my brother was walking backwards trying to de-escalate this seemingly intoxicated security guard. That's when I watched him grab my brother by both shoulders and push him backwards across the entire length of the bar, knocking him into people and objects, eventually pushing him out of the door. He even grabbed another guy and shoved him so hard against the wall that that guys beer went flying and he had purple and blue bruises from his grab. I desperately tried for the other woman security guard to understand he had just been assaulted and had done nothing wrong. She seemed to nod like she had seen this before, but wasn't going to do anything about it. My sister and I were astounded at the actions of this man. That's when he shoved me, a mid thirties woman not even half his size. Even after we were walking away from the bar, this security guard stood outside yelling towards us that he, direct quote, was going to "break our f***ng necks". This is negligence on the bar's behalf, for allowing an intoxicated security guard to a$$ault patrons. We immediately filed a police report, and they requested the video footage from the bar. The bar refused to provide any of the footage. Usually, bars who have nothing to hide are quick to comply- which was very telling in this case. We were never once asked to leave. We were just blind-sighted. I immediately called the bar after the incident and one of the owners, Amanda, who was tending the bar and witnessed the entire thing, cheerfully answered the phone. She had served my brother with no issue. I let her know her security guard had just assaulted us, and she said "ok?" And nothing further. This place does not give a rip about anyone's safety, especially not women's. It has been weeks and I'm still recovering from the pain of this night. Beware for your safety, women. I did what I could, but their actions will likely result in someone getting seriously hurt.

It was terrifying. I could've lost my brother, and we didn't even know why. For your own safety, don't fight back if confronted like this, report it instead. Paper trails save lives. On a brighter note: my brother absolutely crushed it on the mic earlier that night.

It's such a spacious venue and they padded everyone down and had metal detectors with security everywhere! It definitely felt safer then probably every other club I've ever been too! The vibe was so alive we decided to get a section and we were quickly taken to our spacious corner with couches and a table, the bottle service/servers need some work but it wasn't too bad! It was a great time and we had our own security guard also! I brought my sister here after her wedding (in her dress) and they brought her on stage, gave her a special shout-out & made it such a special time for her to enjoy.

This is very difficult for me ... I've been coming here…read moresince the mid 90's and actually worked here for a spell During college at Canisius in the late 90's. I adore Joe Marcella, and despite(me) being almost 50 now, he remembered me, and made me feel like a VIP, and put me at the front of the line. I love the youth and diversity, and had a wonderful night, felt totally my at home, but then felt sudden and bewildering betrayal. I'm just going to say I got taken advantage of by some of the unofficial staff. Please take into account I went without my partner, but came ready to dance and bleed $$$. I tipped minimum $11.00 per $9.00 drink, tried to give the bouncer an Extra $20, but I think he was legit police and denied taking it out of duty. I tipped the girl who charges the cover, double the cover, and was quick to buy random people drinks with no motive aside from friendliness. ANYHOW, I will not elaborate deeply in a public forum, but I was essentially robbed, went to staff for help, and the help sided with the perpetrators, and I was told to exit the premise immediately. It was beyond comprehension how the nefarious group actually seemed to believe their own lies. Albeit it comes with practice, they really "ACTED," as though they believed what they were telling Me. As I was essentially sober, I was meek and compliant, with the exception of spouting to one of the doorman, "Someone is going to regret this. Prior to getting into the medical profession I was in hospitality for over Two decades, and am very sensitive to a clients needs or mood, as well as the stress the staff feels. However, perhaps due to my professional capacity, I felt like I was trying harder to be polite and engage the staff, than they cared to try with me(granted they are sooo darn young). Perhaps, going from being a somewhat attractive dancer, to a barely noticed old man of 49, I might just not be worth chatting up anymore, or perhaps, the younger generation is more socially aloof in general. Anyhow, For many straight or Gay patrons Marcella always symbolized inclusive, unconditional acceptance and safety. Partly, it's difficult to go from being especially adored in my youth, to something of a non entity(at least in my mind) due to being older. My sensitivities aside, what had been yet another Magical Marcella evening, became an almost insurmountable emotional nightmare...... A bizarre almost twilight zone scenario.....that at the very least appeared to illuminate a cohesive union between the official security staff and a select group of hustlers angling their nefarious ends. Long story short, I got fleeced for almost $80.00, and was then told to leave, by the "Official," staff. So robbed, ignored cries for help from staff, and the guilty parties really seemed to revel in successfully conning me, and to add insult To injury, the perpetrators got To enjoy me being kicked out of the bar....while they enjoyed my property. More than anything I felt hurt....the irony is the thieves screwed themselves? I can be a fearsome enemy, but an even more intense friend.... For mere scraps they lost a potential ally/friend.... ironically, what they took was only about a tenth of what they could have yielded as my friend... It's so appallingly the apparent pleasure people get from a well executed con.....even if it's a fraction of what they could have received honestly My take away is that forgiveness, after the anger, if it can't be stopped, is crucial toward healing.
