It is still the exact same way and he recommended the board to be replaced after changing the security door switch. Fingers crossed it's not all that. So, my Murphy bed broke just last night. One of the panels to open and close the bed came off due to pressure being applied to it while the bed was laying flat. We were freaking out. We thought that we would have to end up ordering a new bed, costing us thousands of dollars. I called this business to see if they could fix the problem. He quoted me at just $20 to take a look at the problem. He answered promptly when I called and he came the same day!!! That was unbelievable to me. I asked him to arrive at 2 p.m. and he came right on schedule. He arrived with a toolbox and was able to fix the problem in about two hours. He took an extra trip to the hardware store to find unique screws that he needed to fix the issue. He was prompt and professional the whole way. My issue was fixed perfectly and he only charged me $160 for the job, which included an extra $10 to fix a hole in my drywall that I had. He even offered to paint it himself, but we didn't have the specific paint needed on hand. I felt like I got a great deal price wise. For context, another business that I contacted want to charge me twice as much as a minimum for the same work. Paying him was also an incredibly simple process. He takes credit cards, so he emailed me an invoice and I was able to pay him on the spot with a credit card simply by clicking the invoice and putting in my info. Very easy and convenient. This is the sort of person who you want on speed dial if you need handyman work done around your home. I am incredibly satisfied and strongly recommend him if you're in need of the services he offers. He is responsive, professional and charges a fair price for his work. Desmond left me in a tight bind. He did a previous job for me and we discussed a larger job of him removing/installing a hot water heater, repairing subfloor, and replacing tile in my laundry room and entry way (less than 120 sq ft total). He gave me a quote with a contingency that it may vary $100-$300 depending on a specific factor of flooring. I covered the cost of all material. When we were getting close to time to start the job, he told me he spoke with a friend and he may have bidded the job low. But he didn't give me an updated cost. When the day came to do the job, Desmond came, began to remove my floor, he realized he in over his head and stopped to call his friend to come help. Him and his friend removed 25% of my laundry tile/subfloor and began ripping tile up my entryway. They discussed material needed and both left for Home Depot. Because he works after he leaves his regular job, it was getting late in the evening, I had to have an early start so I left the home for him to continue to work. Roughly 1 hour later before bed, I checked my email and had received an updated quote from Desmond that was 4xs the initial quote. I understand that factors change but the pricing per sq ft in basic items like the removal/install tile and cost to remove/install a new hot water heater multiplied 300-400%. This email was sent by Desmond was not precautioned with a phone call or followed by one from him. I called him immediately and inquired about his timeline to get the job done. He then told me that though he started to remove the floor and subfloor that he could not finish the job until the following weekend (leaving the floor in that condition for 10 days), due to having his son and he would notify me when he made alternative plans. The start date was set by Desmond with no forewarnings of this. The following morning I sat down and analyzed the new invoice. I texted Desmond to call me to discuss. When I asked about the dramatic change he told me the total cost was what his friend said he should charge and he made up line item amounts to get to that total. So there was little to no justification of specific items pricing other than trying to get to a random new total. I pushed back as to why his totals came to 4-5xs what anyone else would charge per sq ft and he stated that he had to speak to his friend about that pricing. I never received a response after that conversation. I am now left to deal with a big gaping hole in my homes floor. Desmond is great for small jobs but indeed got in over his head with this one. I was fortunate enough to find a contractor who could give me reputable prices and who could have a conversation with me to justify costs. read more
