Long story short, AAA recommended for us to use a commercial towing service which is why we went with Pacific Towing. They were at the next city so we waited about 45 minutes for the driver Willy to get to us. He got some skills though. He walked the whole pathway to get to us so that he doesn't get stuck also and reversed all the way to tow us out to the main road. He was a friendly fella and turned our dire situation into a brightful event so that we can make our way back home.

He was able to get to the trailhead and start his 3-night,4-day backpacking trip. Since he didn't have cell service, he messaged me via Garmin asking if I could find a mobile mechanic or a tow in the meantime. And thus began my odyssey. If the car couldn't be repaired on the spot, I'd have to get a tow anyway, so I got in touch with AAA. Set up the tow for a Friday. Then they called me to cancel because they said the last 14 miles of the road were unpaved. And they don't do that. Well, only the last 2 miles of the road were unpaved, but I was out of luck. Called a towing company in Visalia; it was a one-man shop and he didn't want to deal with the drive. Called West Coast Tow, and they were awesome. The woman on dispatch was courteous and efficient. Tow truck driver called me from the road to verify the details. And he showed up on time and got the car back to a mechanic's. Towing cost $850, but I was quoted about $200 an hour, so it was no surprise. Anyway, super pleased with how professional West Coast Tow was.
