Unfortunately, I couldn't even attend for a month to try it out... I got beaten senseless by half of a class of 10-12 people during beginner class "light/technical" sparring. I hit everyone half speed in the head once (pulling all my punches besides maybe 1 or 2) and they flipped out like I had just slapped their mothers. After the sparring, I got ceremoniously bopped in the head by Coach Eddie the Magnificent. On my 5th day of class to boot... I basically paid $300+ just to get a concussion and have my SPINE damaged. Very disturbing experience... I did not enjoy these furious 'ommpa loompa's' and SIR PETTY EDDIE slapping me in the head while I was dazed and confused. #LeaveYourNapoleanComplexesHome #NoBueno #InPainaYearLater #TheDirtyDozen #CheaperbytheDozen #CheckingTeeps #RabbitPunchMadness #HadtoSupermanThatYouKnowWhat #GotPunchedintheBackoftheHeadsooooManyTimes

I was excited to hear that there was a champion fighter only a mile from the hotel I was staying at so I asked if I could come in and try the class. They emailed me back fairly quickly saying that they'd love to have me, which made me happy to go. My instructor told me to sign up for a beginner class. When I got there we did some warmups, but no jump rope like I'm used to. I was definitely the oldest in class. According to the schedule, it was a beginner class, but it seemed more like a kids class to me. During the time I was there, we did technical sparring. I was happy to be paired with more advanced, older students (the one girl won her last fight), and then also some kids. I felt a little out of my element, and I def. got punched in the face by a teenage boy at least once lol. I had cut my eye earlier in the day so it was bloodshot and kept watering. Def. not a good look, and maybe I shouldn't have even taken class. Oh well. After class, I got asked for a payment of $30, which I would have liked to have known up front, but nonetheless, I think it's a reasonable price for sure. I would have appreciated having more instruction on skills and technique though. Coach Eddie was walking around making suggestions, but my more advanced partners were pretty quiet. I did learn a defense move and quick, follow up counter attack to kicks, but it was mostly sparring and not so much instruction at this particular session. I'd say this class is really intense. So if you are looking to fight, this would def. be the place for you. Also, take it seriously. I stayed after to watch the advanced class and I have to say it was pretty intimidating, and Coach Eddie doesn't accept anything less than your best. If you are in town temporarily, def. talk to the gym about trying a class, but maybe call and get more details first so you know what to expect.

Ever since going to this gym 5 years ago I have had a laundry list of health problems. I have two…read moreherniated discs which started while training here and eventually got worse, one in my back and one in my neck. I also had at least 2 minor concussions here. The one that stands out most was when sparring an overeager new student. I literally fell over and people here hardly cared or noticed. Some of them were fine just hitting me hard in the head after it happened or just throwing me to the ground repeatedly as I did half speed kicks, even the person who knocked me down decided to swing for the fences again that same day. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I probably didn't fully even know how hurt I was but I still think it was a little overkill and just weird to go after someone who is already obviously hurt. It's sparring not a fight. I made sure to write all this down after it happened because it was definitely not normal for this to happen at places like these. It was basically a beginner level class with some more advanced students if I remember correctly. Not a place where getting knocked out is common. I know how this sounds, it's a contact sport and stuff happens and I would have been fine with that and probably accepted it and moved on. However, the main problem is when I tried to speak to the owner several times, and one of the instructors once I did not have a good experience. I won't go into too much detail but I was accused of lying about my injuries, I was gaslit, asked if I was autistic multiple times, or they just made jokes or didn't take me seriously. The owner also thought I was a bully for hitting people hard in sparring when I was also frequently getting hit hard. The spars/rolls/clinching was often so over the top that my back literally gave out and I started to develop issues I've never had before. This place deserves a 1 star review not so much for the injuries but for being so scummy about it. If someone gets a bad injury at least be respectful about it. Would have been appreciated. The owner and anyone working for him really should take a hard look at themselves if this sort of behavior is still going on here. If someone has a complaint or concern, taking it seriously would be a good place to start. The owner also tries to get reviews deleted so I'm posting this on yelp cause it got deleted on google.

Everyone has been enormously supportive of my growth and one another as far as I can tell. I think it can be challenging for a woman to enter a sport that is predominantly male. However, I have always felt welcome and valued-something I cannot say I have experienced at many other gyms. I see the gym as a community--something that is intentionally built by leadership at Radius.

You should train here…read more I've trained in several schools over the course of my life, having earned a 2nd degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and training for a year in Muay Thai. When I moved to the Stamford area, I was looking for a school (not a gym) which was disciplined, had a knowledgeable instructor, taught Muay Thai or related styles, and had an ample schedule of classes to pick from, since my own schedule is somewhat haphazard. Tiger Schulmann's MMA in Stamford met and exceeded my expectations. Sensei Demitrius owns and runs a solid school. He is the only instructor there, which I'm happy about since his teaching is excellent. The school has an ample adult demographic along with kids, unlike some schools that mostly cater to kids, with only a few adults training. And the schedule is wide enough for me to train any day of the week. The style of martial arts taught here is an MMA blend proprietary to the Tiger Schulmann's franchise. It involves both kickboxing and grappling, though these are taught in separate classes, and you can choose one or both to focus on. Heavy emphasis on conditioning as you learn technique. Great both for getting/staying in shape as well as becoming a competent martial artist. To sum up: This is a top notch martial arts school. You should train here.

I moved to Connecticut about 6 months ago and after two years of getting my Masters and a whole lot of sitting around, I knew I had to do something! I like nearby The Pilates Centre, read some reviews, and saw that they offered a free intro class. I had never done Pilates before (used to do Yoga quite a bit), but really wanted to try something new. Even though I felt intimidated by what I saw others doing and the machines in the room, I felt welcomed in and supported. After the trial session, I signed up for a 10 pack and haven't looked back. I am nearing session #22 with the owner, Jen, and have already seen changes in my body. I am sold on Pilates and will be remaining a loyal customer of The Pilates Centre. I always feel confident that Jen really knows what she is doing and is supportive of whatever stage I am in with my fitness. She has been incredibly motivational with getting my fitness back on track. I haven't tried any of the classes yet, but once I feel more confident I could see myself mixing class sessions in with the personal sessions. I highly recommend coming in for a trial session - you've got nothing to lose whether you are a beginner or an expert Pilates practitioner!

I personally have always been a fan of weight lifting and strength training but going to the Fit Club classes such as the "body shock" and "ultimate fitness" where they always mix it up and usually it involves circuit training, alternating with body weight exercises and actual weights- I have been experiencing far more intense workouts then when I used to train on my own. I've always loved working out but I've never been able to Push as hard on my own as when I'm being instructed in the classes. Oh! I finally began to join the cardio boxing classes there too! I was way too shy/nervous/intimidated at first to do this but finally gave in cause it looked so fun. I'm a total convert. Now my favorite classes are the boxing! I get such an insane workout and I have such a good time, the instructors are awesome and I love the music! Everyone who goes to this gym is so friendly and it's such a wide range of people who come in, age, fitness level, etc that l can't see anyone walking in and feeling out of place. Also, I sometimes go into the gym when there's not a class going on just to do acro-yoga and play and do my own workouts.
