I've driven past this nostalgic little spot so many times and I finally stopped -- and wow, totally worth it. It was a cloudy, kind of chilly day, but that didn't stop us from ordering two scoops: lemon cheesecake (bright, creamy, and tangy in the best way) and Eskimo Kisses (think moose tracks meets a hint of coconut -- surprisingly addicting). Even with the cold air, the ice cream hit the spot. Maybe bring a jacket if you're going on a non-sunny day! Service was fast and friendly, and prices felt totally fair for the portion sizes. I love that you can either walk up or drive through depending on your mood. The outdoor setup is super cute too, even if we were shivering a little. Jon's is such a sweet, small-town classic -- and now I totally understand why locals are loyal. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors this summer hopefully when it's warmer! read more

Stopped by while in town with my family, I really loved this place! The loose meat sandwich was absolutely delicious, enough pickles and onions to get some in every bite without being overwhelming!! The blue raspberry slush was wonderful as well! The menu variety is amazing and I wish I could have gotten ice cream. I will definitely be back on my next trip. Service was great, it's awesome there's a drive-thru! I didn't eat inside but fisherman Herkie provides a lovely ambiance outside. read more

I have driven past this adorable little yellow ice cream shop more times than I can count but after a hot hike at the newly re-opened Kent Park-- I had to drive thru and get some cold sustenance. Due to the pandemic, the indoor seating area is closed. HOWEVER, you can drive through or order/eat outside. Pricing was on point. Menu was standard. But I think the chocolate shake may have been one of the best I've had? Come get a scoop of deliciousness and stay socially distanced this summer! I enjoy when ice cream joints have special, limited times flavors. Had the yogurt of the month, Caramel Pretzel. Good size, great flavor. One of the big plusses is the fact that they have soft serve AND hand scooped. You don't see that too often around these parts anymore. This roadside eatery along US 6 in Tiffin is a good place to stop for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and ice cream, eat in or takeout. The place has outside takeout windows in front of the building, as well as an indoor counter and seating area (there's a Multicade game machine too), plus a drive-thru if you don't feel like leaving your vehicle. There are picnic tables outside the building. The food offerings include items such as breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hot & cold sandwiches, hot dogs, corn dogs, chicken, seafood, soups, salads, soft pretzels, and fried foods. They have a Super Walking Taco which is a bag of Doritos topped with seasoned ground beef, cheese sauce, lettuce, salsa, & sour cream. The frozen menu offerings include soft serve & hard packed ice cream, frozen yogurt, sundaes, clipper whippers (flurries), ice cream sodas, floats, shakes, malts, slushes, freezes, smoothies, ice cream novelties, pie ala mode and custom ice cream cakes by Kris. Before driving out to Des Moines, I stopped by Jon's Ice Cream Store & Restaurant for dinner takeout after a quick visit to Iowa City. I ordered the BBQ Special ($7 plus tax) which included a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, 2 side choices (I chose baked beans & potato salad), and regular soft drink (Diet Pepsi). The food I had was really good. The sandwich had very soft pulled pork in a sweet BBQ sauce topped with dill pickle chips on a toasted Kaiser bun. The sides, though in small cups were tasty. The baked beans had a sweet and smoky flavor with pieces pork in the mix. The potato salad had a firm texture, sweet and creamy. I did not get any ice cream on this visit since I was already drinking Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks for my long road trip leg to Des Moines. read more

We stop for clippers several times a month. My husband and son started a game this summer to see how many bites they take before they get cookie dough. Today when we stopped we ordered two more clippers. Cookie dough clippers to be exact. One had one chocolate chip and a spoonful of dough in it . The other one didn't have anything. We noticed this summer that the quality has really gone down. Last summer it was hit and miss for quality. We will not be stopping anymore. read more

Really good Ice cream, terrible customer service. Ordered a burger, mozz sticks and some wedges with nacho cheese. We then get told to pull up, no big deal, however 30 minutes go by and I'm sitting there waiting thinking that a drive through shouldn't take as long as a dine in place. I pull into a space and go ask about my order and they all yell it's coming out now and I'm like cool but I just waited like 30 minutes with ice cream in my car etc. anyways the lady brings my food out, I say thank you then she says you know we take call in orders for stuff like this. Like why is there a drive through. Also burger was 7 bucks and definitely not worth it. I have supported this business since I moved here but not anymore read more

Been coming to Jons for years and last night when we went there it was the worst service ever!!! I'm sorry but some of the kids that work there are so so rude! my ice cream cone was a leaning tower. They shouldn't be making ice cones if they don't know how to make them look decent! And they need to learn to finish one order before doing the next. they need to slow down and take there time. I was so not impressed with the service. There are a few people there, who need to go. It wasn't just me who was complaining about how some of the employees were acting. There were other customers there too complaining how certain employees who were rude. read more

We were excited to go here after all the great reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Not sure if it was just the kids working or the overall ice cream, but it wasn't good. The mango fro yo reminded me of orange baby aspirin. The crunch coating didn't stick so they handed me a cup of the crunch coat with my cone. The Oreo whipper was soft serve with a dusting of generic sandwich cookie. The peanut butter supreme was tasteless soft serve with peanut butter liquid poured over the top. We didn't try the hand scooped ice cream so maybe that's where the good stuff is. 4 out of the 6 in our group threw their ice cream away and trust me, these are people that do not throw food away, especially ice cream. read more

On Sunday May 31 my family came to town and we decided to get some ice cream at Jon's. We placed our orders which included 1 sundae, 2 shakes, a root beer float, a slush, an ice cream sandwich, and 1 cup of soft serve. 10 minutes later we received the cup of soft serve. 15 minutes after that my mom asked one of the employees how much longer our order would be, and she was told not much longer. 10 minutes after that and after 2 other orders were finished, for customers who ordered after us, my dad asked what was taking so long. This led to a conversation that included an employee asking my mom if she "went to church today?" Apparently the employee was implying that because my parents had the need to ask why an order for ice cream was taking 40 minutes, this meant she was such a terrible person that she needed some Jesus is her life. After finally receiving our complete order after roughly 40 minutes we left. Needless to say we will not be back. read more
