They open a new pickup only freshly made to order dumplings and buns deli inside the store. Pics don't do justice. Fresh and tasty! Great deal for the dumpling set. We like a lot and the people that works behind the counter is gracious and friendly. We were in the area and dropped into this 5 year old Joong Boo Market warehouse for the first time. I thought it was newer than that but time flies! It's tucked away in an interesting and secluded location surrounded on one side by a small cemetery (Ridge Lawn cemetery) and the other side by a big Restaurant Depot store. I'd be willing to bet money that first time visitors will miss the Joong Boo entrance and either head into the Restaurant Depot entrance like we did, lol, or pass their entrance entirely. But you won't be far away! It's a pretty big warehouse with all the usual Joong Boo goods. Prices are about the same as at the JB retail outlets. As may be expected, there is no food court operation here but there is a Joong Boo Wang Mandoo dumpling stand. They also sell limited offerings of pre-packaged bakery goods and sushi. Overall, a nice-to-have location for Joong Boo fans and shoppers. read more

Everyone who is in the know still calls this place Hi-Mart! Note that you'll have to turn into a long driveway, and Hi-Mart is nestled in the back. It's across from the cemetery, off of Pulaski and Peterson. A sister company to Joong Boo, this warehouse offers various Korean home decor, cookware, pillows/blankets, clothing, various accessories, as well as a nice selection of snacks and groceries. Feel free to peruse the aisles, taking your time. You never know what you'll find! The employees are readily available, but they allow you to explore at your leisure; when you're ready, go towards the front and a friendly cashier will check you out. If you're hungry, they also have a dumpling place by the produce section as well as some ready-made food items by the front (such as ddukboi, juhns, popcorn chicken, etc.). This store was quite large. It looked like they had an extensive selection of products and goods. It looked like they typically had good produce items. It also looked like they typically had a lot of prepared meal and grab'n'go items. I appreciated that they had cans of Yeo's soy milk. It was great that they had a parking lot. read more

Love it!! This place is bigger and less busy than the original location, and compared to their Glenview location, a bit smaller, but less busy and closer to the highway. And closer to more authentic Korean restaurants! (Jeonju, cho sun ok) It felt so clean and well displayed, that even though the Glenview location is bigger, this place was easier to navigate ands felt like there was a bigger selection. Price is the same in all the locations except for very few location specific sale items, which you can find in their weekly ads. Most importantly, the staff here are ALL SO nice!!! The cashier was the bomb! And the guys stocking groceries were so helpful, with a smile. I feel like at the other locations, the staff is rushed and overworked and customers usually feel the blunt of it. Here, I felt like I was at a friendly neighborhood market. This will definitely be where I'll be coming back to from now on! Oh and this is called the "warehouse" so I was a little wary of coming here at first, but they do carry most everything. The only thing we couldn't find here was alcohol (soju). And I also like that their pantry items are at the front of the store and the refrigerated/frozen items are all in the back. read more

Joong Boo is a great Asian market chain here in Chicago. This location in particular is the warehouse location. They sell a wide range of oversea products along with fresh meat and fish. My favorite thing about Joong Boo is the Sashimi Platter on Wednesday and Friday for $30. You definitely can't beat that if you enjoy fresh sashimi. Such a steal for the price. People here are friendly and are open during Christmas and New Years Day til 7pm. There is plenty of parking here. It is always clean and well lit. Definitely worth visiting when in the North Park area. read more

01/01/21 - FIRST REVIEW OF 2021 Yet another Joong Boo. This one is a Market Warehouse off of 5800 N Pulaski in Back of Restaurant Depot. This Joong Boo is the 3rd one that I know of. The address is 5825 N Tripp Ave, Chicago, 60646. The original one is at 3333 N Kimball Ave right off of the Kennedy expressway. The second one is in Glenview @ 670 Milwaukee Ave. This third store is located behind The Restaurant Depot @ 5836 N Pulaski. To access Joong Boo there is a road just south of the Restaurant Depot that goes from Pulaski Ave all the way to the back of the site to a stand alone building w/a small parking lot that is Joong Boo Market Warehouse. There was a different business before Joong Boo. If I need some Asian groceries it's super convenient as it's located about 1 mile almost directly east from where I live. They have many of the typical Asian goods along w/fresh produce, meats & seafood w/a nice but limited quantity & selection. They also have a variety of products for preparing and eating foods like pots, pans, dishes, bowls and utensils. It's nice to know that we have access so close to home if the need arises. FYI they also have a nice size sashimi platter that has tuna, salmon, fluke & tilapia all the time for $35. This same sashimi platter is only $25 on Wednesday & Friday read more

The first time was hard for me to find the entrance to turn into, but I figured it out when I saw where the Asian drivers were turning into... a narrow pathway on southwest corner of Restaurant Depot; so slow down and pay attention where to turn when approaching the location. I am SO delighted about this JoongBoo location which is MUCH closer to my home and has pretty much everything Korean food item I need plus more! My favorite reason for stopping by this location is for the vast selection of prepared foods which is what I need to get through rough weeks of work. The prepared foods selection are different or I might even say more expansive than HMART. For example, they have delicious stir fried spicy octopus, rice porridge, seolleongtang, and about 10 other varieties of soups! They have prepared seafood stew packages as well. I also pick up the super fresh kimbap each time I stop by too. However, their banchan selection is much more limited than HMART. They also carry items that HMART doesn't normally carry like chicken gizzard, hearts, and liver and pig/beef organs etc. Produce is also very fresh. Only downside is they don't have large variety of seafood or live seafood. It's hard to compare whether JoongBoo or HMART is better and it depends on what you need. The original (Kimball Ave) location is literally right off I-94 and very close to Belmont Blue Line. We loved shopping here-- found lots of great snacks and cooking ingredients. It's an older grocery store with kinda narrow aisles and some L-shaped twists and turns, but it's an amazing place! Everything is kept fresh and well stocked. There's even a section with some Korean & Japanese housewares & beauty items. We did not eat at the sit-down restaurant inside the grocery store (seating there is very limited), but instead got chicken wings & kimchi wang mandoo from the food stand outside the store. The food was totally delicious! The wang mandoo are as big as your hand, I could only eat one but the filling was so tasty. Parking can be tough. When we went (Saturday afternoon), there was a guy outside directing people where to park. read more

Great store. Hidden in the bushes this place is better than the kimball location. They had everything I needed and the people are nice. However, the bathroom smelled like it hasn't been cleaned and the security cam was right next to the bathroom. Also the location is far, and if you have a fear of dead people, I would advise to go somewhere else read more

Wow! Great selection of Korean, and some other Asian ingredients, cooking utensils and random other items. As a non- Asian, I was a bit overwhelmed by the vast array, but the staff and other shoppers were helpful and friendly. The prepared food I bought was delicious and the fresh vegetables were of high quality. I will be back! read more
