The amount of options are endless from meats, seafood, frozen & fresh, vegetables fruits. It's an experience. We ordered a dungarees crab and the seafood monger was friendly and happily picked a nice feisty one for us and even ransack to get us ice for the trip back home. Very warehouse feeling but for the amount of stock they're carrying everything is packed with easy visibility and access in mind. Unless we missed anything somewhat disappointed in the food court or restaurant options and there's no signage to tell you where to access the market (up the escalators) versus the downstairs shops and what's available. read more

The $3 lays chips caught my eye since they had a special Heinz ketchup flavor, which I was excited to try because I used to love the tomato chips, but those aren't around anymore. The market itself is really big with a ton of variety, especially for meats, frozen foods, and Asian drinks. Who doesn't love a good marketplace especially an Asian one that carries all sorts of imported and locally sourced goods? And the best part -- free parking lot and city street parking so you don't have to scramble to pay and be on a timer. Whenever my family and I make a trip into the city -- usually for dim sum or a meal with extended family we like to stop here on the way home, even if it's just to browse. The market is located on the second floor of the building. There's an escalator that takes you up, as well as elevators for accessibility. The main building itself houses several other Asian businesses, including restaurants and specialty shops. So what can you find here? Pretty much everything: produce, fresh foods, snacks, meats, seafood, and aisles of refrigerated desserts. It's expansive --maybe even a little overwhelming but in the best way. They also carry many niche items that I haven't been able to find at my local H Mart or other large Asian grocery chains in the suburbs. For example, I love these particular Hello Kitty French-styled waffles with a trio of crème fillings that come in a beautiful pink gift box with a ribbon on top. I haven't seen that same product anywhere else. Around Lunar New Year, they also sell red lì xì (red envelope) packets. During the season, you'll find live cherry blossom branches and small orange citrus trees (likely kumquats), which are symbolic for Lunar New Year celebrations. Seeing those live plants always makes me reminisce about Tết and Spring Festival celebrations in Vietnam. The branches and plants were priced in the upper $30+ range -- definitely a vibrant decorative addition to any Asian household. There's also a food court that runs along the right side of the market. It's a bit tight in terms of table spacing but the variety covers Chinese dishes, sushi, and bakery and more. This area is convenient if you want to grab a bite before or after shopping. Price-wise, I think it's comparative to any food court ranges, a little bit mark up, but convenient for when you just need to catch a breath and have a meal before you do more shopping or after shopping. The only downside I can think of this place is that the restrooms on this floor aren't very clearly visible. I actually only know of one restroom area on this floor and it's in the food area (located to the left of the store) and through the sushi bar. Follow the exit sign and go straight into those curtains area to find a bathroom hallways. If anyone else know of another restroom area, please drop me a note on this review to let me know. I added a photo for reference. There's also another restroom on the first floor if you take the escalator down. These tips might be helpful to know if you're here shopping with kids. Overall, this is a great marketplace for both locals and tourists. There's so much you can pick up as gifts or bring home to family and friends. You could easily skip overpriced airport gift shops and shop here instead. When you exit the market, there's also a specialty shop on the lower basement level filled with unique imports from China, Korea, and Japan -- everything from toys to home goods. It's another excellent place to browse for souvenirs. I don't have the name handy, but that might be saved for my next review :) Tip: Bring your own bags to shop or you can purchase upon checkout. We always keep some bags in our car and my MIL remembers so it saved us from having to buy bags. read more

When I visited my best friend in Chicago, I had an incredible time exploring 88 Marketplace. We went for 312 Fish Market (a sushi spot inside), but ended up doing some grocery shopping while we waited for our food to be ready. This place is HUGE! There are several different markets within. You'll take the escalators up to get to the main food court and grocery part. The food court section has a bit of a divider between the grocery and plenty of seating. This will be to the right. I loved exploring the aisles. I feel like they offered 10+ of certain products (re: mochi ice cream, sesame oil, and frozen dumplings). It's well organized! I loved seeing the huge variety of meats and fish here. I highly recommend visiting this incredible store. read more

88 Marketplace is spacious. They have an extensive selection and a wide variety of foods. They look like they typically have excellent fresh produce, e.g., fruits. I enjoyed soy milk and tofu I got here, especially the VitaSoy soy milk they had. The store itself looks great. It looks like they have a lot of staff in case you desire help. They also have a food court that looks like it typically has great options. I was grateful they had a parking lot. read more

88 Marketplace is a cool 2 floor mall with a grocery store and food court on the top floor! There were lots of options for restaurants, but I chose to get sushi at 312 Fish Market. There's plenty of seating in the food court, and you can either order to go at the counter or sit for service. I went close to closing time, so it wasn't busy. But I can imagine that on the weekend the place fills up! It's the perfect place to stop for lunch while grocery shopping. They had one fully vegetarian specialty roll, and it was really good! I had the Fancy Plant roll, and I ordered a side of spicy mayo for an extra kick. I liked how many veggies came in it, and the eggplant on top was very tender. Decently sized Asian market with various different types of foods and snacks. Varieties of restaurants in and around here too. Is it the perfect Asian market? No, but not too bad. Felt like it more geared towards the bigger Asian countries for sure. Nothing too special about the place, just will have to check it out for yourself and catch some deals they may have. Went to visit 88 Marketplace after seeing it come up on my Instagram feed. We were in the area and decided to venture up here and it was worth the visit. This place was huge, it is similar to H-Mart but a lot more Chinese based products (of course) and much bigger. The meat section was insanely big, they were actively butchering. A giant selection of meats, seafoods that you don't normally see in stores. For example there were thick cuts of pork belly including the skin. In addition there are several food sit down spots inside the grocery area as well as lots of salons and some fun stores in the same strip mall. The strip mall has a lower floor and a second floor, a lot still to be under renovation. In any case, the marketplace was very fun to walk through and prices were similar to what you would expect to see in the suburbs. Korean Hot-Pot that looked heavenly, as well as a food court with sushi, baked goods, soups, etc. it looks like they are in the process of adding more shops including a gaming store. What a cool grocery and eatery outside Chinatown in Chicago! There is free parking lots and street parking on the street. When you enter, you have a few options to head downstairs to shop in a housewares store, stay on the first level for some food options and art shop, or head upstairs to the large grocery store and food shops. The grocery store is huge, and has a ton of snacks and hard to find Asian grocery items at a reasonable price. We're traveling out of town, but we purchased some hard to find items including some self heating bowls! After we shopped we headed to the food stalls which included a bakery, dim sum, bbq, and dumplings. We order from a few different shops and purchased wonton soup and a variety of dumplings. Everyone was so friendly and nice and the food was good! It's a cool shop and a great place to pick up Asian groceries. read more

First time visiting this Asian supermarket near Chinatown. They have a parking lot with plenty of free parking which was a pleasant surprise! Upon entering the building, take the escalator upstairs to access this supermarket. Once you enter the supermarket, stay to the right side and you will find a small food court with four vendors, including a stall serving dim sum. The good: Their varieties of snacks were impressive! The selection of Lays chips and Oreos from overseas was probably the most I've seen, even more than at Chicago's Gangnam Market. The biggest highlight though was they sell Schweppes cream soda. I've never found this cream soda at any supermarket in Chicago or Houston. This soda brings back great memories of my trips to Hong Kong! The bad: The produce. The quality was not great and the prices were much higher than what you'll find at H-Mart and Joong Boo. I recommend visiting to stock up on snacks and creme soda, but pass on the produce. read more

This place is really great and authentic!! I've been here a couple of times by now. It is a large Chinese grocery store with a mini food court in it. The food court is REALLY good, so I'd recommend trying some dishes there. They also have a small Asian Bakery (but every time I've been there, they seemed to have been low on stock - maybe it's because I tend to go there in the evenings?). They have pretty much everything you can expect from an Asian grocery store - they have your black chicken, beef tongue, pig calves, etc. Even some live crabs and clams you can pick yourself to take home and eat completely fresh. If you want some things that are only sold in Asia (like green tea or strawberry flavored Oreos, or Ramen flavored Lays Chips), check this place out. It's not the cleanest grocery store, but it is NOT dirty at all. Had it been completely immaculate, I would actually have been slightly disappointed! It's part of the charm. It's quite a large open space. They have a whole isle for different types of noodles. They have so many different bags 15lbs+ of rice. Every time I come to Chicago, I stop by this place, even if I don't wind up buying anything. Cashier people are super nice! I love this place! This marketplace is on the second floor. If you go on the first and the lower floor, there are other cool Asian stores and restaurants. There is a free parking lot and free street parking as well. read more

88 Marketplace A large Asian food market @ 2105 S Jefferson Street. My neighbor posted this on Facebook a couple of years & forgot to ask him where it was located. They are located on the second floor w/a large selection of Asian products. They have everything from produce, canned & bottled goods, packaged goods, an array of meats, & fish.....The fish area had a large selection of items but it didn't seem very sanitary. There were fresh shell fish, fish, live eels (that didn't look to good (sickly in about 2"'s of water). There were even whole live king crabs in the back for something like $56.00/lb. A nice selection but again it seemed kind of unsanitary and I don't think I would buy from here. The meat selection had a nice variety of items from chicken, pork, lamb & beef. I didn't spend a lot of time but I did a quick walk through as I didn't have a cooler & didn't want to carry the fish or meats in my car without a cooler . They had a nice little food court. I stopped in and grabbed a quick snack of pork dim sum w/spicy chili sauce that was tasty. I would like to go back & explore a little more throughly when I have more time The space is very large w/very spacious area between the aisles. I feel like they could more effectively use the space & better maximize the amount of merchandise by making the aisles between the shelves tighter. Finally got here without the dog, they don't allow dog. The store is pretty crowded with all kinds of merchandise from all over Asia, not only China, but South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand. The snack session is enormous and all kinds of frozen dumplings, taro cake etc. people shopping here are mostly Asian. They also have a huge selection of seafood. Check out is easy, but you need to pay for the plastic bag. Just remember to bring your own bag in future. Good place if you are looking for Asia food. read more

Great Asian marketplace with a big food court. Food court has bakery, dim sum, sushi, korean corn dogs and more. This was my 3rd time coming to this market. I love to grab specialty items to make dishes at home. My favorites are lumpia wrappers, fish, Korean lemon jelly tea, tahini, jasmine tea, rice, and frozen dumplings. Additionally, they have frozen crepe cakes. This marketplace boost an expansive meat market and produce section. I appreciate the organization of this store. For the most part prices are decent. When it comes to meat, definitely cheaper than regular grocery store. The produce section is great. I always grab some fresh produce. Check this place out. Bonus is the free parking and the various restaurants (Korean Chicken, Hot Pot and Tea) on the 1st level. I always get bubble tea at Pure Tea as they have tea with cheese foam. read more

A little of everything for everyone. I love that this was located right above the hot pot restaurant because we were able to walk off how full we were while we shopped. When you walk into the market place, all of the home goods were on the lower level, while the market is up the escalator. You're greeted by a bunch of restaurants on the right side including a bakery, dumplings, dim sum, ramen, sushi and more. Then we shopped around. From fresh fruits, veggies, sauces, dried goods, a meat section, dairy section, frozen section and more. You have endless aisles to walk through. But my favorite was walking through the snack aisles and seeing their different flavored lays chips and all of my childhood favorite snacks. I also discovered some new ones that I love too! 88 Marketplace had recently opened up in the Chinatown area and is considered Chicago's largest Chinese supermarket. The food court is more Chinese fare-focused, but there is a Korean hot dog place as well. The products seemed pretty extensive, as there were all these brands that I haven't seen at other Asian/international markets - snacks were of abundance from all countries, and they had a great selection of packaged products. The prices are definitely steep, and not competitively priced - their 'sale prices' are not what you see elsewhere and are still exorbitant. I wouldn't go grocery shopping here for items, but I guess if you're in a pinch? I've been eyeing the place for some time and finally made a visit. I was looking for split hotpot pot and thankfully they had it. The building is huge, looks like they are still working on the exterior of the building, they have one area of paved parking, then larger dirt parking lot. The first floor is filled with restaurants and the store itself is on the second floor. Seafood, meat and frozen foods are located all the way in the back of the store, veggies are on the left side of the store and to the right is the food courts. I would recommend you avoid the place on the weekends, especially on a Sunday. People leave their carts anywhere and people just stand there, blocking the aisles and the path. Bring your own grocery bags, as you'll get charged for each bag. I also picked up some hotpot meats, very reasonably priced. If I lived in the area would visit more often. read more

This Asian supermarket is one of my favorite across the country. They have food vendors serving great Asian food and a wide variety of groceries. Their snack selection is enormous, rows of candy, chips, cookies, and classic Chinese candy brands. I was also lost trying to look for an item and one of the ladies working there was very kind and helped me look for it. She seemed to know the layout very well and after we couldn't find it, gave a different candy recommendation which I enjoyed at home. Really excited there's a large Chinese supermarket in downtown Chicago! This isn't just as grocery store but also a mall with a large food court and restaurants. The selection in the grocery store is fantastic. There's everything you'd need and a lot of extras like dishwater, kitchenware and an extensive frozen section. The interior is really clean and brightly lit. There's large open parking outside the front. The staff at the help desk and cashiers are very helpful and efficient. Even on weekdays the store gets extremely busy but it never feels really mobbed. There's a fantastic food court inside the grocery store that has a wide range of Chinese regional cuisines. read more

I popped into 88 Marketplace with one mission: to explore the food court. First off, I was thrilled to find not one, but two free parking lots--score! The building's second phase looks close to completion, with plenty of empty spaces up for grabs. An escalator whisks you up to the second floor, where I passed by four eateries before landing at the dim sum spot. It's cash only and made to order--not bad quality for a food court! After that, we wandered into the market, which has an impressive seafood section packed with live lobsters, crabs, geoducks, snails--you name it. The meat selection can be better if they have more lamb and goat. Unfortunately, the produce section was a letdown; the veggies were wilted, some fruits had turned yellowish, and a few were even moldy. The store could definitely use some tidying up, but on the bright side, you can sign up for their loyalty program at customer service. read more

The food court looks very nice and I would try places here, except we were full from just having finished lunch at Qiao Lin Hotpot downstairs. The market looked clean, but some of the freezers had cracks and ice on the doors, and I'm not sure how long they've been like that. Offset temperatures in the freezer can cause food to go bad, unsafe for consumption (even if safe, the freezing and unfreezing will make for bad taste. Have you ever had ice cream from a freezer like this? Bleh) Veggies looked fresh and options were plentiful. Prices were better at JB market. Meats looked awesome and the butchers were attentive and efficient. I could find pork feet here that were the perfect size. I've had difficulty finding them elsewheres. read more

Free parking in their parking lot!! Finally a place that offers free parking. We went to check out the grocery store that was located upstairs. Take the escalator upstairs and grab a shopping cart. There's a ton of cool groceries from Asia to choose from. Also a food court and area to dine. We were worried about the perishable items going bad, my friend asked for a cooler for purchase and they gave him 1 for free in the back of seafood section. This place is new, clean, downstairs from the grocery store is hot pot restaurant, bubble tea and korean chicken restaurant. Also couple of retail home goods store. The girls at the bubble tea cafe were so sweet, she offered to take our picture for their wall. read more

My family loved the food court in the grocery store--ordering random buns, lotus root in chili oil, and so on. Be forewarned, many of the staff don't speak english... but generally not a problem--plus, they were very kind to me. Also of note: the tables weren't regularly serviced, so you'll need to do a little cleanup before you sit down. Afterwards, hit the EXTENSIVE snack section for tons of crackers and candies, and stroll about the rest of the store for huge selections of mushrooms, greens, and tea. I swung by 88 Marketplace purely to check out the food court and that's what this review is based off of. Honestly, the food absolutely blew me away and if you ever have a bit of extra time for a snack or want a full meal, there are definitely plenty of amazing options here. I will caution that some of the vendors heavily prefer cash and will charge an additional fee for using card. Overall though, the ordering experience is pretty smooth because even if the overhead menus are in Chinese, they'll have translated versions either in front of the register or on an ordering kiosk. Dong Bei Ren Jia: I didn't actually try their dumplings, which seems to be what they're known for, but they also have other hot items as well. I tried the pork cheek wrap which was super fatty in the best way possible and even though the scallion pancake wasn't quite as flaky as I would want, it's still something I would recommend to anyone visiting. Ying Dim Sum: This stall makes dim sum fresh and the two items I tried were bomb. You can really tell that the ingredients are fairly high quality: the siu mai was perfectly seasoned and juicy while the tai shan fen guo had an awesome chewy texture. read more

This is Chinatown's big and new shiny grocery store and more. But the shiny factor has kind of worn out for me. It does have a great selection and a much larger inventory compared to everywhere else but the prices are higher. I'll stock up on something here and go somewhere else and see it's cheaper and get a little annoyed. It is pretty massive and crowded on weekends. Sure, they have a parking lot but the cramped spots ring car door dings. I tried the viet place in the small food court and that sandwich was a letdown. The dim sum place does look tempting with the fried traditional offerings like fried ha-gow. On my to devour list. Chiu Quon Bakery use to be in here but it didn't make it I guess. It recently got replaced with 88 Marketplace items and Te'amo Bakery items. I'm really temped by the mochi donuts which seem to run out very quickly. They offer a coconut loaf bread which is pretty medicore. You use to find the coconut bread at Park to Shop/Hong Kong Marketplace on 24th place but word on the Chinatown streets is that sadly the baker who brought us the tasty loaf you've probably never tried passed away. The bread here is just not as buttery or coconut-tee. You don't see swirls of coconut and barely taste it. I was so excited to see it but extremely disappointed after taking a bite. Clientele is funny here too. You see a range of baller import cars that color me green with envy. And while shopping, I always see a bunch of pricey, trendy coats that cost more than Chinatown rent. read more
