I'm not sure why it's taking me years to do this review however I've been going to seafood city supermarket since they opened this Chicago location years ago. When it first opened, it was great to see how bright and clean it was and to see all of the incredible stacked foods and items. However, over the years it's definitely been worn down a little bit and could use a new refresh. What has been good is that they really expanded some of the seating area as well as the seafood city Grill area and the food offerings. However even this is slightly inconsistent as far as what's available when it's open, etc. It's also great that this particular location also is able to build out some of the other additional vendors like the bakery by Valerio. Again, though, I wish there was a little bit more consistency and organization throughout. Parking lot is has been quite ample except during peak times. I really wish they would open one in the suburbs as well. The only major disappointing thing was I used to carry the best Chicharron by Saint Michaels and then they absolutely abused and price gouged the bags. And eventually they stopped carrying it. I've decided this is where I want to be buried when I die. You walk in and are slammed by every food-related sight, sound, and smell you could hope for. They've got a "street food" cart right at the entrance where you can grab a few quick snacks without waiting in line. There's a food court to the right with all the grilled and braised goodies you could hope for. Look to your right and behold; Jollibee! Not only that, but their bakery, "Red Ribbon", and another bakery one door over! All this surrounding an enormous store with groceries, snacks, vegetables, hot bars, raw and cooked seafood, home goods, and anything else you can think of. It's like any other traditional market where you trade "white glove" customer service for amazing food and goods at really good prices. If I lived in the area I would be here every day for lunch and/or dinner. The vegetables were all fantastic quality and really well priced. The snacks and baked goods I got were also really good. Especially since the skewers had probably been sitting out for a while. I will for sure be going out of my way to visit next time I'm in Chicago. read more

I've been coming here for a while - off and on - and now that I live in Milwaukee, it's even less. When it comes to groceries, I have always found what I needed and more. The store is well-organized and clean. As for the grill, I feel like they need to figure things out. On a recent visit, I ordered the pork skewers and the pancit palabok. The pork skewers taste better and are less fatty than before, however, the pieces are much smaller and the price for 4 is $16!!! Huh? These better be organic, happy pigs for that price! The palabok was OK, a little bland. They put a few shrimp in and a couple pieces of hard boiled egg in after putting it in the container which made me feel like they have really done some cost cutting measures. Honestly, I think the call is to eat next door at Max's and then grocery shop. I stopped at the bakery shop conveniently located on my way out and bought pandesal and ensaymda. But I'm guessing that's for a different review! Overall, this place is great for my Filipino staples, not for a eating a meal (unless you don't mind spending $$$). read more

I've been coming here since they opened in this location and generally like the supermarket. We often get grilled food here, usually to go. I've felt for a while that the grilled pork and chicken skewers were a bit overpriced for what you get. However, now there's absolutely no doubt these items are way overpriced. It's been 4 skewers for $16 for a while, but when I was there the other day they've made the skewers even smaller than before. So small that they no longer put them in a bag but rather a square box. So essentially your paying $16 for 4 measley skewers made of of scrap meat trimmings on a wooden stick, thrown on the grill and sauced. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion and I will no longer purchase these grilled skewers anymore. It's $8 worth of meat on my plate here. I'll still shop here, but will pass on this overpriced item. read more

Every now and then we make a trip to Seafood City to pickup essentials. The store is well organized even after they rearranged the shelves. Each time I am taken down memory lane when I come across snacks and items I had growing up. Pricing is hit or miss depending on what you are buying - but then you consider where else would you get this item. I mostly check for sales and try to take advantage of that. It's amazing to have a huge Filipino grocery store (but it also has pan Asian food like Korean and Chinese and Taiwanese) in Skokie IL. Inside you will find 2 bakeries and Crispy City, a meat department, Jollibee, Noodle Street, Grill Street which are fast food sit down stores. Lots of mango foot items like cake and drinks and desserts at the grocery store. It's fun ... prices are a bit pricey but that's what you get for having a unique grocery store for mostly Filipino food. It's great. Came to this supermarket to try Jollibee which is attached. I was so excited because they had some hard to find Philippino products. I have searched high and low for Tropics lumpia wrappers in this City. Finally able to make the lumpia that I love. Cool supermarket. Parking lot was crazy and happy that I parked by the Target. We've been meaning to stop by here for a while now and decided to make a trip this weekend since we were in the area. We came around dinner time and the restaurants and food court were pretty busy, but the market itself wasn't too full. That being said, I certainly don't recommend shopping at that time because the shelves were empty from their early afternoon rush. The staff was filling shelves as fast as they could but things were flying off faster than they can fill. The prices for a lot of the goods were fair, with a mix of a lot of Asian cultures but a bigger focus in the Filipino community. We ended up stopping by the bakery and grabbed some goodies to go. The staff we encountered were super nice and super helpful. All in all, when in the area we'll come by and grab some goodies. read more

Though there is a considerable amount of competition for Asian Supermarkets in Chicago (Hmart, Assi, Park-n-shop, Mitsuwa, etc.), Seafood city holds its own a a Filipino focused supermarket / shopping center with a wide variety of food options. For this alone, it's worth a visit here to get options such as baked goods, desserts, grilled meats, fried food, street food, etc. all in one convenient spot. While each individual restaurant isn't the best you can find out there, the prices are competitive and it beats running around to lots of different places. As for the supermarket itself, it is quite complete with foods from other Asian countries as well. You can easily use it as a one-stop shop for all your produce, dry goods, drinks, frozen food, fresh meat, tea, etc. goods. These are fairly well arranged and the prices are pretty competitive compared to the large suburban Asian supermarkets nearby. Overall, worth a visit if you live in Chicagoland and are a fan of Filipino food. You won't find the best versions of any particular dish, but the quality is good enough that you'll be excited to try more. read more

They are located in a small strip mall, you can find a lot of Filipino items and food, they have restaurants inside, Jollibee, and a few bakeries. I shop at H-mart as well and their prices and very competitive with them. I love finding and trying new snacks. The cashiers are nice and attentive. The only thing I would complain about is the restrooms , they were not very clean, I can't all blame it to the store but the consumers who should clean up after themselves. Not only grocery, but there is a food hall you can buy Filipino dishes by the pound, kakanin and tinapay. Here you can find Jollibee, max chicken, red ribbon, imas and valerios bakery, money exchange and balikbayan courier. Lots of seafood and fresh produce. They also sell prepared hot foods, and Filipino favorites like leche flan, puto, pichi pichi and many other sweet desserts. Reasonably price. Fast service at check out. Great place to try Filipino favorites like adobo, pancit, bbq chicken, Filipino sausage, lumpia, fried bananas, and so much more. You can hang out all day in the grill/crispy sections. The supermarket is built into a larger strip that also contains a Filipino bakery and a Jollibee store--a chain popular in the Philippines. I love to play what I call "snack roulette." This is when I head to the salty snacks aisle and grab something I've never seen before. It's even more fun if I can't read the labels. I love this Asian (more like Filipino) supermarket! It's similar to a Korean grocery store called H Mart which I also like. I like the chicken lunch set and the dessert drink that I got from Grill City at the food court within this supermarket. This food court has a variety of vendors. I enjoyed eating and grocery shopping here. Their grocery variety is amazing too. I got some frozen and hot seafood from this market and I love all of them. This place is always crowded on the weekends per usual. Not even a snowstorm is gonna stop the Filipinos from getting their household goods, and I can see why. If you need a solid Asian market, this is your place. Parking is pretty ample, and not only is there the market itself, you also have Jollibee, a bakery next door, and several restaurants within the store to try from. Can't really say much about the service here. I feel like no one generally goes out of their way to be friendly, but whatever, it's a super market. I do wish there was a Seafood City a bit closer to the city, but given that this area is where a high concentration of Filipinos live, it makes sense why it's here. It's also conveniently located right by the highway for quick and easy arrivals. If you're trying to take public transit here, it might be a bit longer to get to because it's just outside the denser areas of Chicago. I'll be back I'm sure soon. read more

This is a great grocery store for Filipino and other Asian foods and products. Looking for ube, taro, or calamansi? You got it, along with lots of other fruits and flavors. As the name implies, there are many seafood options. There's also a food court including stops such as Crispy Town, Noodle Street, Grill City, and of course the Filipino fast food fave Jollibee, as well as 2 bakeries. I detracted one star because the parking lot is a complete nightmare! People zipping around each other and cutting corners...though as my friend said, in the Phillipines basically no one follows the traffic laws, so I guess everyone is back in that mode here, but good grief. Like many ethnic groups the Filipino have their own grocery store and inside them their own food stalls and Filipino fare. It's a great place to get a uniquely Filipino meal or street food. As it is filled with mostly Filipino Americans you can safely assume the hot food they sell and street food stalls are legit. As usual no one had any idea what I was talking about and that's just the way I like it. I said "soup" and pointed to a broth. He smiled and ladled out a few large scoops of tasty broth and dropped a healthy amount if veggies in the broth then followed up with a good sized fillet of fish I believe was pompano fish. Now the broth was insanely rich and delicious and when married with the fish and veggies truly great. Be careful as bones are still in the fish fillet so you must carefully chew and pick them out. But like any meat the bones are what give the broth so much flavor. I moved on to another stall where a found a meal combo of grilled squid and rice with a vinegar sauce. No, not a couple of skimpy pieces but a very nice sized grilled blackened squid. The side dish was white rice which was flavorful and not bland at all accompanied by a large portion of fresh noodles with vegetables that was equally satisfying. The best part for me is always being the most odd man out. I try to blend in and eat like a local but as usual some kind old ladies throw me a knowing smile as they know I'm new and get a kick out of my brave entry into their local delights. Many people flock to Seafood City to purchase Filipino groceries, eat at the food court, and eat at the adjoining Jollibee and Max's Restaurant. I have only been here a few times and was not impressed with the food court stalls. They do have a wide selection of Filipino groceries that you may not be able to find elsewhere. However, this establishment is only earning one star because they are not handicap friendly. There is handicap parking but not near the front of the store. Now, doesn't that seem like it refutes the purpose. However, I was very disappointed to find out that they do not have any wheelchairs or scooters. My dad is unable to walk and he was fine with just staying in the car, but I found this to not be very good business practice. read more

Stumbled in by accident and glad I did to realize this market is a large Asian (Filipino) market and eatery. Most of the eatery offer most items that are "Fried and "Grilled". I ordered a combo #1 which comprises of two scoop of rice and 1 pork kabob with a small half-pint of brown gravy. The market had plenty of Asian delights and I enjoyed the live and chilled area for poultry and fish the most. I ended up with plenty of supplies to bring home.
