Everyone, from the grocery store and restaurant is so helpful and knowledgeable and the service is quick and quality! Also the playlist while I shop is great They have great weekly specials in their ads on the website for both groceries and ready made food (which is also fantastic!). NO NO NO NO NO! Someone needs to call the health department. I was in there yesterday to pick up ground beef.... THE GROUND BEEF WAS BLACK! They had it on sale.... because it was old! The store has been around a long time and the store has a bit of everything including Mexican products. I stop here every now and then to pick up those Mexican products. On my last visit I got some Mexican cookies and candy. They also have fair prices for their products and offer plenty of free parking. At this time they are building something in front, a cafe but not yet open. And they have a small restaurant on the west end of the store so you can stop by and get prepared food to eat there or take out. read more

I usually get the shaft. I mean, I usually get the shaft when it comes to smaller Mexican restaurants. They cater more to people who eat beef and pork and I don't so I usually end up eating chips and guacamole or rice. BUT I eat chicken and if 'm lucky the chicken isn't an afterthought sitting in a bin of oily juice or left to dry out under some heat lamp. At first I thought I wasn't so lucky because the menu at this place didn't list any chicken items. I did a quick scan of the "food bar" and I saw a pan of delicious looking roasted chicken staring back at me. I must have been drooling on the counter top because the cook offered to use the roasted chicken and make tacos for me. A short while later, I was feasting on some heavenly roasted chicken tacos with all the fixins. Absolutely delicious at only $1.50 a pop. Quick, tasty, cheap. read more

Okay, since someone pointed out that no one Yelp's about my neighborhood, I thought I would. Here goes. Eff Jewel, eff Dominicks, eff Strack and Von Til. Not only because they won't dare take the leap of faith I did to move to this neighborhood. No, also because they suck compared to my (yes, MY) Carniceria Jimenez. Tell me where else I can purchase a fully cooked rotisserie chicken, all the fixin's for a salad, a 32 oz tall can of beer and a telenovela magazine (ok, I don't actually buy them but I COULD) for under $10. Not at those bourgoise grocery stores. Only at my poquito Jimenez. Don't get me started on their fantastic tres leche's cake. It ain't diet food, but its damn good. They have a whole bakery attched to the back of the grocery store where you can buy 4 still warm, freshly baked bollilos for $1. And a FULL liquor section. I'm talking balls to the walls liquor. A whole wall of refrigerated beer. And at least 5-6 shelves of hard liquor. They also have a restaurant area in the front. It serves already prepared Mexican fare which I have yet to try, but you guys will be the first to know when I do. I love this place. Don't be a jerk, come support my neighborhood (which I don't think even has a name yet, seriously) grocery store and stop by my apartment. We can enjoy some of that fresh baked bread over tall cans of brew. read more

This place is awesome. This is the right spot to get your meats, fruits and veggies. Can you get 10-15 limes for a dollar anywhere else? Or four packs of tortillas for a dollar? This is one of the first spots I go to when I'm planning a nice meal... especially if you need some Hispanic food products. In addition to that, a bakery is attached. You can get a bunch of little pastries or bigger cakes for parties. One of my favorite purchases here though is the bolillos...three for a dollar or sometimes 4 for a dollar. I can make a mean torta. Lastly, there is a place to eat in here if you don't have time to cook. It is a little place, but the prices can't be beat. I definitely recommend trying it out. read more

a good-sized grocery specializing in foods from Latin America. there is an associated pananderia in the building and law offices upstairs. I've driven past here 564645 times and finally stopped in on a quest for huitlacoche. I found two brands, non-adjacently. small can for $5ish and big for~ $8. they had a few other things that tempted me, so I may be back. Parking is on the west or east side of the building, in narrow lots, or on the street by the entrance. It's a little tricky with the one-way sidestreets, and you may have to walk a little to get to the entrance, but it's not so bad. read more

I was in the area today, and wanted to find a place to have a quick lunch. While I can't comment on the grocery shopping, the restaurant up front has some good food and quick service. The view from the restaurant area into the produce made me wish I had some time to shop. The Food: The menu is up above the grill area and had a pretty wide variety of traditional food. I quickly decided to go with a Pork Burrito and can of Coke. Overall, it was a good value ~$6.00 for a giant burrito and $0.65 can of Coke. I was totally impressed with the fresh avocado sliced up an added in as it was prepared. When I'm back I'll try the tortas. They looked awesome. The Service: Quick counter service. Place an order for the food and then follow the food down the line to pay and select your drink. The place was busy, but it moved fast. The Setting: Casual with a bar/barstools for solo eaters or small groups and larger tables. read more

OH MAN, Fat Donuts is what makes this place good. This jumbo size donuts are good and fresh but the downside to them is that they are available early in the morning because once they are gone, they are gone. There is no location on the south side or close to Cicero or Berwyn or even Riverside. If you have a party, great treats to have. Can't rely that they will have donuts all the time except in the morning. read more

I've been shopping in this market since I was a child. The first thing my mother taught me is to enter the second (and final door) and right away spot the weekly Jimenez specials ad paper. There you will see which meats, vegetables and other foods and essentials are on sale. If you are going to buy meat, take a number from the red meter on the corner of the meat counter. Don't be shy to make your way and call out your order when its your turn. On the left of the meats are aisles with canned goods, condiments, chocolate abuelita! cereals and other baking essentials. You will also find the dairy section on the north wall of the store. In the middle of the store you will find the vegetables and fruits and the aisle with bread and tortillas. If you continue walking past the vegetable section and into the remaining part of the store, you will find bottled juices, frozen foods, sodas, big bags of rice and beans and pastas, cookies, and bathroom-home essentials. At the checkout, the ladies are cordial but not very friendly. Don't mind them, you can make amends by passing on to the small restaurant they have near the exit. You order cafeteria style. I recommend the chicharrones en salsa verde and a horchata. The owner is a very friendly man. He even lets a woman sell tamales and champurrado in the morning on the west parking lot of this market (even though their restaurant sells that too!) He knows his stuff, the lady sells killer food. Enjoy that in the mornings. Overall, this place is great for everyone. Prices are reasonable. Alot of parking. read more

This place use to be the closet Mexican grocery store to me before I moved. The meat is always well priced and fresh looking, and if your looking for carnitas then this is definitely a place you should check out. I'm not sure of the lady's name who is there early In the weekends taking orders but she has won me over with her exceptional customer service! She always offers me and my daughter samples of the soups,cheeses, or other types of meat they are serving. She also makes sure to separates the fat from the meat which I like because most places won't and would just throw that in to make more weight. But the only thing I don't like when I go there is that there is alot of people hanging out in front, either selling all kinds of things like a flea market, or standing by the liquor store. If I were the owner I would place No Loitering signs everywhere. Think about it, how many people do you see doing that in front of a Jewels, Mariaños, or even Food for Less on North ave and Cicero? read more
