It's not a huge park, but it does offer a variety of amenities for everyone--you can walk or bike along the path, there's a small playground for the kids, and a small pavilion to picnic or just hang out. I'm not sure when the official park begins. I just noticed on the map that it's drawn to be long and skinny along the parkway trail. It's just the trail on the southern part, and the action is more on the north side by 5300 S. The trail in most of this section is more wide open, with some larger trees here and there. In the summer, there will be a lot of sunshine and the pavilion will be your shade refuge.

There's some good open field space (suitable for soccer/football/frisbee) around the play equipment, and it's along the Jordan River Parkway trail, so it's well maintained. Some very fond memories of my dad getting the old inner tubes, blowing them up, and tubing down. He took my little brothers a couple times and I went as a pre-teen and the hill seemed much smaller then. As a teen, my first ever paying job was here. Again, it was still a school, and they had baseball diamonds where I was an umpire for tee-ball. Such memories. When they got rid of the school, I was curious to see what would happen. What sprung up in its place was a park that the next generation of kids will have to fill their memories. Instead of the school, and a winter-only sledding hill, this is a full-blown summer park. Apparently splash pads are a thing. Safer than a pool (at least for drowning) and still built to keep you cool in the heat of the summer, there's a big ol' splash pad here that's built for the little ones to stomp around and get wet. Bring the sunscreen. As others have mentioned, there's a lack of shade here, so you'll want to protect yourself from the sun. And it's probably best as a weekday reprieve. It swarms with kids on the weekends and you might get elbowed around. Beyond the splash pad, you've got some playgrounds that are geared towards different aged kids, some courts, and a whole lot of grass. This park covers the bases for lots of kids of different ages and will surely be one of the places to provide them with fond childhood memories.

This is a pretty simple park, but it's it pretty good condition and it's in a great part of town…read more For being just one park, it's really feels like several parks all wrapped up in one. At the northernmost section it's all open and grassy. Then to the southeast, but still at the top of the park towards the middle, there's a decent-sized playground for the kiddies. Those directions make sense, right? You'll see it. The northeast quadrant is much more heavily wooded as you head uphill to the east. And by wooded, I mean treed. They're not woods, but there are plenty of mature trees to provide a little shade on those hot days. The south side of the park is tennis land, with several courts bunched together in the walled portion of the park to the southwest. Finch Lane bisects the lower half, but there are still courts on the east side. Finch Lane proper also houses the Art Barn, home of the Salt Lake City Arts Council. I may have been there as a pup, but I don't recall going lately so perhaps a return visit (and review, of course) is due. Don't be fooled by the barn moniker--by all accounts it's a lovely gallery kind of space and home of the good people of the Council. If there's a complaint to be had, it's that parking can be a challenge. You're mostly looking at street parking, and lots of it is time-limited, with section of No Parking along the way to confuse you. Be patient, and know that you may have to walk. I didn't see them, but they list picnic tables as amenities. They also mention a drinking fountain, but I didn't see that either. The open fields are mostly just grass and trees. But lovely, lush and wel-groomed grass and trees.

This is a nice park that seems to have a de facto off leash dog area. It is not fenced but is…read moreproscribed by a steep hill on 2 sides and a low wall on one side. So if your dog is under good voice control should be a good spot. This is what my pup and I prefer over a dog park as those attract misbehaving pooches who would run wild without a fence.
