Dr. Medrano has been my gynecologist for the last few years and recently helped me deliver my first baby. I am so happy with his work. He has always treated me with kindness and answered all my (many) questions with patience and humor. Not many people know this but Dr. Medrano is also the Director of Obstetrics at the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Burbank so he definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to babies! Please, please, please!!!! Avoid this practice. This doctor forced me to have a c-section which wasn't needed.. I have talked to various OBGYN and they confirmed that they don't perform a c-section because of the meconium. That they always have the NICU team on standby to help the baby after a vaginal birth. He forced me to have a c-section because he didn't want to wait for me to fully dilate and was rushing to go back to his clinic to see other patients. I was left with birth trauma. read more

I honestly don't know why or how many people have had a bad experience but with me it was the complete opposite! Dr.Medrano gave birth to my first born in 2021 and was very patient with my first time mom questions. Then after my second birth I went to him to do the copper iud. Didn't hurt at all when placed but 7 months later it wasn't comfortable for me anymore so I went back to him and he took it out. Now I have returned and have done the surgery with him to tie the tubes and he was very upset front and honest about everything and everything went smooth. This was the most horrible experience...ladies, DO NOT GO HERE! First of all, they did not prep me at all for my Copper IUD insertion ahead of time. I had to call and ask them if I could take anything. When I arrived, I went to the bathroom and there were urine samples still sitting in there, waiting to be collected. Dr.Medrano had horrible bedside manner and did not make me feel comfortable. He kept trying to put in my IUD and it hurt so badly. He said he didn''t think he could get it in and then without warning, went for it and i experienced the worst pain i've ever felt! And i'm someone with tattoos and piercing with a high pain tolerance. After he got it in, he started to walk out. I asked him if i can take anything and what to do about my bleeding...he said to take Advil and just wear a pad. He didn't give me one to leave with or anything. I later found out he should have given me anti anxiety meds and prepped me by taking Ibuprofen. Please please please do not go here. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. If you do... DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILLS. I was a patient for four years. Dr. Medrano seemed kind and personable but his billing practices are questionable. Nearly every time I came in for my annual exam, they'd say I owed even though I had only ever been in for a Pap smear which is free preventative care. Surprise! They pulled the same thing during my most recent visit in February. They billed my visit as a "diagnostic" instead of "preventative." The doctor then insisted I needed a medical procedure done for further testing so I came in a few weeks later. I was nervous and the procedure was uncomfortable. He didn't provide me any information regarding after care. Luckily, I was curious and googled. I called the office and a staff member confirmed what I read online. It would have been helpful if my doctor, who strongly encouraged me to do the procedure, had given me all the info up front. I really should've stopped going two years ago when I requested an HIV test and Dr. Medrano asked me why, given the fact that I was in a monogamous relationship. What kind of doctor discourages or questions a patient trying to get tested for STD's? I thought it was odd but shrugged it off. Also, the walls are thin. Last time I was there, I overheard the doctor in the next room telling another patient they had herpes. Back to more recent matters... I want my results so a week later I call because I haven't heard anything. I'm told I'm fine in a very brief conversation with the doctor. Cool. WHY AM I THEN CHARGED FOR ASKING FOR MY RESULTS? I have NEVER heard of a patient being charged for asking for the results of testing they've already been charged for. Make it make sense. They charged it as a REMOTE VISIT! This office has turned into a straight up money grab and I am disappointed and disgusted. Now I have to find a new doctor. I get it, everyone needs to make money but doing this unnecessary invasive procedure cost me time, comfort AND money. I'm going to challenge the charges but even if I end up paying, I know this review will discourage others from going. So since you wanted to be greedy and take my lil coins, you'll miss out on more revenue. read more

FEAR BASED CARE I was extremely disappointed by the way my birth preferences were disrespectfully neglected. When I asked what degree of tear do I have. I was told : "what do you know about it" I was told my placenta had to be tugged and cord clumped immediately. I kept hearing how my baby was overdue during the labor(41+4). Using fear based approach I was pressured into unnecessary medical interventions using pitocin and vacuum. Overall, the experience tells me of extreme impatience and indifference of dr. Medrano. I had an appointment with Dr. Medrano this morning at 9am. I walked out. As I was a new patient, I arrived about 15 minutes early as I assumed there would be paperwork to fill out. When you walk into this office you are greeted with weight loss products... If you have a history of disordered eating OR just want to avoid toxic diet culture... This ain't it. I thought I was at a doctor's office - not a front for a multi-level marketing scheme for a fad diet that preys on people's insecurities and lines Dr. Medrano's pockets. I wonder if Dr. Medrano has used this weight loss system himself. I wonder if he'd pose with a measuring tape around his waist. I was grossed out by this, but against my better judgment began filling out my paperwork. Ask yourself who profits off your insecurities. Especially in a place where you are the one disrobing. About 15 minutes later, the receptionist leaned out of the window to let me know Dr. Medrano called and said he was running about 30 minutes late. At that point, I said, "No thanks!" He was knowledgeable and thorough, but I do agree with the other comments that there seems to be some sort of power trip going on. He perpetually cut me off and redirected our conversations as I answered HIS questions, and it felt very controlling and indifferent. I struggled to finish a sentence before he'd cut me off. During the vaginal exam, he was rough and didn't care that I was tensing. At one point, I thought the exam was over so I sat up and closed my legs. He pushed my legs back open with his hands and pushed me back down at the waist. Also, I'm still sore from part of the exam where he reached in and pressed on my cervix. I left feeling...objectified? Violated? I don't know. I wanted to know if others had similar experiences, so I went to Yelp. It seems like I wasn't alone. This is not the energy you need during your exam. I have a strong feeling that he enjoys treating women in this fashion. I've had enough gyno exams to compare, and I've never experienced this. I'd never seen a male gyno, but he specializes in so much I gave it a shot. Not worth it. read more

I strongly advise from seeing this doctor. The first visit will seem alright but from that point on you will be treated as a # and not as a human being with feelings and questions. I completely understand that doctors are busy, but Medrano probably spent less than 3 maybe 2 minutes talking to me each time I visited him and I have seen him now over the passed 2 years 5 times. Under my circumstances he suggested doing a leep procedure which is an invasive surgery and I have since seen two other doctors who DO NOT want me to do a leep procedure but rather cryotherapy because of the stage that I am at which is way less invasive. He told me that likely my boyfriend (NOW FIANCE) is not monogamous and that I need to be careful because most men are not monogamous?!?!?! He consistently portrayed a negative outlook which is not comforting at all for someone going through a potentially scary situation. I cant even begin to imagine allowing him to give birth to my child. I didn't even want to write this but my friend recently visited him to have an IUD put in and he left the room with her in tears! I feel that if any other women rely on these reviews as I do that this might help them in the future to make the right choice. Dr. Medrano is overall a good doctor, but his comments are off-putting. He has a problem being patronizing based on the two times I've interacted with him. I realize he's a doctor, but treating me like I'm dumb when I'm naked and my legs are spread is bad form. Please try to be more empathetic. Then his staff is another problem. Like other reviews, I also had trouble scheduling appointments due to delays with phone calls and follow ups. What should have taken 4 days to schedule an appointment wound up taking 4 weeks. On the plus side, the parking lot is free and my appointments never take longer than an hour. read more

Cold, indifferent, and judgmental. Went in for a regular exam. When he asked me about my method of birth control and I gave him my answer, he snidely replied "Are you TRYING to get pregnant?" When I said no he followed up with some snarky comment about how my preferred choice of contraception really wasn't that effective and that I might as well start expecting to have a child at any time. Last time I checked, it's not a doctor's job to pass judgement on their patients, especially when their legs are spread wide open with their most intimate parts exposed. I felt purposefully degraded and looked down upon, literally and figuratively. General consensus based off my experience and other comments here on Yelp: Dr. Medrano has disdain for women. Dr Medrano was very informative, patient and through. As I was sitting in the waiting room, I came to Yelp to read the reviews and I was terrified reading a few of them saying he was mean, and almost walked out! This is my first trip to the gynecologist in 5 years, and having some female (pain) issues, I was extremely nervous. He took his time getting to know my medical history, and listened to my concerns -- sadly it's a rare to find a doctor that does that! Gosh I don't know where to begin. The office staff is incompetent and has zero knowledge about Motion Picture Industry insurance, authorizations and billing. Since my first visit I had billing issues that I had to clear up EVERY single time. A routine OB visit, they double billed my insur, so the claim was denied and a bill was sent to me for $550! They sent authorizations with wrong info on them, so again, my claim was not billed at 100% and I had to clear it up and get it resubmitted. Every time I called to inquire about them fixing their mistakes, the front office girl, Evelyn would blame the insurance or the ultrasound office, even though both of them stated it was my OB's office that handles the paper work. During pregnancy no one should have this much stress dealing with an OB office! I ended up transferring to another OB based solely on the difficult time I had dealing with the office. Then my new Dr finds out, they had provided inaccurate info on my paper work, like my due date, they had the wrong date by 30 days! But wow, what a difference it has been dealing with a professional and experienced office staff at my new Dr's office! Dr. Medrano was ok, I would have kept being a patient if the office staff was reliable. I only had a couple visits with him and he was nice and personable. Save yourself the trouble and go to another OB from the start! read more

I have very mixed opinions on Dr. Medrano. On one hand he performed a hysterectomy on me which probably saved my life and so I'm forever grateful to him for actually listening to me and not sending me to get yet another laparoscopy or DNC. On the other hand, his office staff is disorganized. I found myself finding and requesting the preauthorization paperwork and having to follow up to make sure it was actually done. Medrano's office (especially their benefits coordinater, Daisy) kept on blaming the insurance company when after multiple calls it was obvious she didn't complete the task. I don't know if it's incompetence or if she's over worked but that's a huge issue. Even after my surgery they had to call me to ask for copies of my preauthorization paperwork because they couldn't find it. On the post op side with Medrano himself, there was a lot of unnecessary drama. I had to be admitted to the hospital overnight because of pain instead of it being outpatient and was literally stuck in a hallway because post op was closed and they couldn't get ahold of him to admit me. He also didn't leave any food orders and wouldn't respond to their calls so I couldn't eat the entire time I was in the hospital, 23 hours. Medrano seemed insulted that I had to be admitted (uh no, probably not your fault... everyone's body is different - and you should know that.) and made several digs about it during my follow ups. I was in a lot of pain when I got home and had several infections after my surgery, Dr. Medrano was very dismissive. He even said "you shouldn't be in that much pain" but did nothing about it. (Again, I'm not looking for my drug fix here, I just want to be able to walk without pain). Finally when I was "cleared" he made a weird sexual joke about having a Merry Christmas. All in all he's probably fine for run of the mill stuff, but I wouldn't trust him or his office staff with surgery ever again. read more

I love Medrano. He delivered both of my girls and will be delivering any babies to come. With my first pregnancy I was clueless on what to do, luckily Google aided me in finding him. The initial process was simple and fast. Of course my main concern was having a male obgyn, but he made me feel very comfortable. He is personable and down to earth. He answered all my crazy questions and concerns without hesitation. With my second pregnancy I drove from Arcadia to Burbank for my visits. I refused to see another. The staff is also great. The gals are friendly and helpful. If I didn't move east I would still be seeing him for all non-pregnancy related lady check-ups. read more

This review is strictly for the front desk staff at this office, who are by far the least responsible, least helpful and possibly least caring staff I have ever encountered, especially Daisy. I have been struggling with an ovarian cyst for nearly 7 months now and I have seen multiple doctors and decided to get a laparoscopic surgery done by Dr. Medrano. However, I originally had my consult with him nearly 2 months ago, and his front desk staff has steadfastly refused to do their job and get this approved and scheduled for me. They first took 5 weeks to even submit the request to the insurance company, then claimed my insurance was to blame for further delays. The insurance company said they submitted the right paperwork to Dr Medrano's office IMMEDIATELY. Daisy then looked into it further and tried to blame the surgery center they were going to use. I personally went to talk to Daisy at the front desk as I was so outraged and she couldn't have seemed less concerned with this issue. Weeks keep flying by and nothing has been resolved or scheduled. All the while I have been in terrible discomfort and pain. I had no choice but to schedule this surgery through a previous doctor I saw, even though I'm less comfortable with this doctor. Clearly my insurance was not to blame as I had no trouble scheduling this surgery with the other doctor and getting it approved. Moral of the story: Dr. Medrano, Daisy and your front desk staff have cost you a patient and now gotten you a scathing 1 star review on Yelp. I strongly recommend you find a new staff who cares more about your patients and knows how to do their job correctly. DO NOT GO TO DR.MEDRANO! I really wish my experience birthing my first baby had been different but it was a complete nightmare and it was all due to Dr.Medrano. I feel like he doesn't even deserve the title of DR. To make a long story short, at my delivery he was coughing the entire time during COVID. I would be pushing and he'd have a cough attack mid push. He did many things that my husband and I expressly told him not to perform on me which I'm pretty sure are grounds for suing him and his malpractice. Just remembering this experience brings tears to my eyes, for someone who's job is to see a new life come into this world, he is the most heartless individual I have ever met. Dr medrano delivered my baby I had a c section and im glad I got a doctor like him originally Dr Bardowell was my obgyn throughout my whole pregnancy but when I was about to give birth dr Bardowell was on vacation so dr medrano had to deliver me I liked how he answered all my questions before getting a c section i was so nervous it was my first time having a baby but dr medrano from the beginning made me feel comfortable and at ease it was my first time meeting him he was so calm and attentive I knew I was in the right hands. I can not speak about his office or staff since I never went to his office but Im guessing they are just as good. read more

This office is unreachable! The phone takes a long time to ring and then disconnects. I needed to get records sent to another doctor and his office is unreachable!! Initially I had went Dr. Medrano to get fibroids checked and removed in Dec 2019. He suggested and pushed to hysterectomy in a rush. He was nice but dismissive on few health issues I had from another doctor. During the pandemic, I couldn't get the relief I needed and his office wasn't accommodating to my pain or needs. I visited Dr. Medrano for the first time today, as his office is covered under my insurance. I waited for about 40 minutes in the waiting area (which, fine, it's a doctor's office), and then I was brought into an examination room. The nurse asked me the reason for my visit (cramping and spotting between periods, as well as an abscess under my breast) and wrote it down. When the doctor came in, he told me I looked "mature for 17," which would make sense, as I'm 24. The nurse had written a completely random birthday on my chart. He also said that cramping and bleeding was "unfortunately, a side effect of all periods." Well, obviously. I've been menstruating for 11 years, I know how it works. The nurse hadn't written that it was BETWEEN periods. She also didn't write down the abscess. I told him about both, and he seemed completely dismissive. Literally didn't even give me a breast exam or LOOK at the abscess. Just told me to put a warm compress on it, and that sometimes it can be caused by someone "biting" you. Because that happens so often. He also told me that the cramping and spotting was normal with an IUD (which I've had for over a year), even though I insisted it had never happened before and had now happened twice. He gave me about a 3 second examination, prescribed an antibiotic for BV (which I'm prone to), and sent me on my way. Overall, not a good bedside manner, clearly a staff who doesn't know what they're doing, and I felt stupid for even going, since apparently these concerns were trivial to him. read more

I really wanted to like Dr. Medrano and gave him so many chances. Much to my dismay he delivered my first child after a less than pleasant experience with his services. I tried switching doctors towards the end of the pregnancy and could not so he ended up delivering my bundle of joy which all worked out. I got pregnant a second time about a year after he delivered my first child. First off He did not remember me at all from one year ago which actually didn't surprise me because he makes no efforts to get to know his patients. Whenever I had a question he appeared to be annoyed and would rush through the answer (which I noticed early on in my first pRegnancy). No, congratulations from Dr. Medrano instead he asked me, "did you want to get pregnant?" That did it for me. Word of advice for Dr. Medrano, treat every patient like your only. Take your time with them listen to their concerns and questions with out rushing them out of your office. And lastly smile a little at least pretend like you actually like your job. read more

I went to see Dr. Medrano today for my annual checkup. As a new patient, I filled out the necessary paperwork and waited to see the doctor. Here's a quick breakdown. Pros: The staff are friendly. Overall, my visit was quick. I was in and out within 60 min or so. The doctor was knowledgable. Cons: When looking for a doctor, I prefer a warm relationship. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect the doctor I'm seeing to be my buddy but I do expect him/her to be somewhat friendly. Dr. Medrano is a bit on the frigid side. With that being said he was frank, straightforward, and respectful. Overall, it was a good visit. Also, parking is $4/hr. Street parking is available if you're looking to save a few bucks. read more

Dr. Medrano is simply the best. He saved my life simply. After going to multiple Ob GYN's and testings for abnormal bleeding for years. After my very first visit, Dr. Medrano decided to take a biopsy of the uterine lining during a routine pap. Sadly we discovered cancer but it was caught so early on that everything was removed and no chemo. He recommended me then to an excellent oncologist OB GYN and asked and did participate in the actual surgery. I can't thank him enough for catching what many other doctors had failed to do. I never felt rushed during my office visits and he actually listened to me. I trust him thoroughly and am grateful for his wise decisions. read more

PREGNANCY/DELIVERY REVIEW: Dr. Medrano accepted me as a transfer patient and I am so glad I chose him to be my Dr. If you want a real Dr he is it. He delivered my first baby on aug 25th this year via c section . Not only did I see him at every visit ( which at my previous OB I met the Dr once ) he was there at the hospital constantly (late at night) and reassuring all his decisions were in the best interest for the baby and myself. I never once felt I was in the hands of some other Dr at the hospital during labor. He works very well with the Nursing staff at St Joseph's in burbank. I couldn't be happier with his bedside manners. I personally don't like to wait at the Drs office and at his office you are in and out he doesn't leave you waiting. He is very chill so if you are like me who feeds off others energy he has this calm approach to everything which helped with my anxiety. :) read more

I first met Dr. Medrano at St. Josephs Hospital, he took the time to explain to me what my options was and has been very attentive to my needs from the beginning, he has walked me through every step of the way and has been very patient with me. (which is not easy to do) I am very grateful I found him. His staff is amazing, he returns all of my phone calls and has answered all of my questions to the best of his ability. One of my surgeons recommended for me to get a second opinion by another doctor who is a Cedar Sanai's doctor and is a well known OBGYN and to my surprise the recommendation I was given by Dr. Medranos was on point with my condition. This made me feel safe and very comfortable with his diagnosis and treatment he has recommended for me . I defiantly recommend seeing him, I find the negative reviews to be incorrect because I have not experience any of that with this office. My husband and I found Dr. Medrano through St. Joseph's hospital right before my 3rd trimester started. We had a doctor we didn't trust and who misdiagnosed my pregnancy and knew we had to find someone else. Dr. Medrano carries himself in a very calm and knowledgeable manner that was exactly what we needed after feeling traumatized from my previous obgyn appointments. He saw I had a perfectly healthy baby and a right on track pregnancy even though I had endometriosis and got SPD while pregnant. My previous doctor immediately wanted to give me a c section even though unnecessary. I ended up having a VERY successful vaginal birth with a very healthy baby girl. I healed within a week and had no side effects. Dr. Medrano is the only doctor I want delivering my future children. We are so thankful for him and the nurses at St. Joseph's for a very successful pregnancy and birth! read more
