I called as a new patient to make an appointment. The woman on the phone was unbelievably cold and rude. She took my info and said she would have scheduling reach out to me to make an appointment. Normally doctor offices will give you a time frame on how long it will take for someone to get back with you but she would give me no time frame at all. I asked her if it would be a day or a week and she said another office recently closed their doors without notice and they were currently trying to reschedule "thousands" of patients. I asked her if I should be looking for another eye doctor and she repeated that someone would reach out to me and then abruptly hung up in my ear. There is not enough I can say to thank Dr. Joseph Boss for his care when it came to my eye. I came to his clinic Retina Specialists of Michigan earlier this month after having an abnormal retinal photo from my regular optometrist. He got me right in to be evaluated and did not even hesitate. After taking some images and doing some additional tests he gave me a few diagnoses of what could be going on with my eye, but since it was such an early stage I did not get a definitive diagnosis that day. Most people do, depending on the condition, and can get treatment same day as well. After a week I came back and he was able to do more tests and images and determined that I needed a steroid injection in my eye to stop inflammation. He was through and explained everything in great detail. I didn't even feel the injection when he put the needle in my eye (he's just that good). I came back today for my followup and he said that the inflammation had went down significantly. His treatment plan is going well and I feel confident in his care. I am so happy that he was able to help me and be so professional and accommodating despite there being a pandemic. This is a Doctor that goes above and beyond for his patients and I highly respect that. I recommend him without hesitation. Dr Boss is simply amazing. Our 6 year old son suffered a detached retina as the result of an injury that had occurred weeks prior. There are few pediatric retina specialists in the state, but Dr Boss is one of them, and he was able to see our son the next day and operate a couple days later. We have had a dozen appointments with Dr Boss over the last year and the experiences have all been amazing. He takes the time to talk to our son and interact with him in a very calming and reassuring manner. He was honest with us about prognosis and has celebrated the tremendous result with us . I have thanked Dr. Joseph Boss MD for repairing the retina of my left eye, but it doesn't seem like enough. I came to him after cataract surgery did nothing to improve the vision in my left eye. I thought there was nothing else that could be done. Boy, was I wrong! I was referred to Dr. Boss because of issues with my left retina. I got in to see him pretty quick and he explained a surgery that he could perform in a way I could understand. I had surgery a few weeks later and the whole experience was a positive one. Vision has since doubled in my left eye and Dr. Boss assured me it would continue to get better. I am extremely happy...just so tickled to see so much better in my left eye. Dr. Joseph Boss gave me the gift of eyesight. I am a 28 year old male and I was fixing my car when a piece of metal went into my eye (even though I was wearing safety glasses). The metal piece was removed in an emergency surgery done by my eye doctor in Ludington. Dr. Boss made time in his busy schedule to see me a few days after the accident. He used all the highly specialized machines in his office to look at the injured eye. Dr. Boss was able to see that my retina was intact. This, of course, was great to hear and crucial to restoring eyesight in my right eye. Dr. Boss said the sooner he could get into my eye and repair it, the better. AGAIN, he made time for me RIGHT AWAY and scheduled me for surgery the NEXT DAY! I have been with Dr. Boss for four months now. Dr. Boss has always been honest with me. He told me what he KNEW he could do to repair my eye and he told me that he was unsure of something until he actually got into surgery and saw the actual condition of my eye. Dr. Boss cleaned out the fluid/blood in my eye, laser repaired two spots in my retina, repaired the iris (a couple stitches) and replaced my lens. He was unsure, until the surgery, if he could replace my lens. The good news is that he WAS ABLE TO replace my lens during surgery. After surgery, Dr. Boss explained very thoroughly what he did and that the surgery went very well. Of course I was glad to hear that! Dr. Boss explained that the chances of sight for my right eye were good because the retina was intact and he was able to sew a new lens in. This is a miracle! Dr. Boss is obviously a very skilled doctor and has rebuilt my right eye. He has been there for me every second. He has explained things to me clearly. He was always positive as he told me the situation with my eye and gave me hope for eyesight again. Dr. Boss kept me going through the healing process. Like I mentioned, I have been with Dr. Boss 4 months, as my eye has needed time to heal gradually. I NOW DO have partial sight out of that eye. With my good eye working with the injured eye, I can see fairly well. I am driving, and back to work and functioning "normally". I still have 3 stitches left in my cornea and when those are removed and a contact is placed over the eye, I hopefully will see even better. Dr. Boss is a skilled doctor and also a great guy. He has a friendly, outgoing personality and I feel like he is a friend. I DO KNOW that he has done everything he possibly can for me. Eyesight is priceless, so I can never "repay him".
