My wife and l feel well cared for and are treated with kindness and respect. Throughout our visit, everyone was super nice and also answered our questions. When we were shopping for frames, we didn't feel pressured at all and they were upfront with costs, so there was no surprises at the end. Overall, I'm really glad I chose to go to Lifetime Eyecare and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants an eye doctor that makes them feel listened to, feel like an individual customer (and not just a number), and the comfort in knowing you're in good hands with a great doctor and staff! read more

I had an amazing experience at Lifetime Eyecare. Dr Smith is so kind and thorough. He addressed all my issues and made sure everything was checked and accounted for. My glasses came in quickly and the tech was very helpful. I did end up not liking the glasses I chose for a couple of reasons and when I came back, they let me exchange for a pair better suited for me. I am very happy with my new glasses. I highly recommend Lifetime Eyecare. read more

Everything went well. The tech who saw me first was super kind and easy to talk to. Dr. Smith was incredibly informative and supportive during my exam. He referred me to an eye surgeon to fix my ptosis ( I've been asking for help for this for over 20 years). Highly recommended! read more

I've been a patient at Lifetime Eyecare for ~10 years and have always been treated so well. Dr. Smith and the entire team are welcoming, knowledgeable and caring. The new renovations are stunning! Excellent selection for eye glasses as well. I would 100% recommend Lifetime Eyecare! read more

Went in to have my eye checked because of something floating in the left eye. Through my work I have Eyemed insurance and priority health. This was just to check my eye, to make sure nothing is wrong. They ended up billing me for $161 for 15minutes. They said they needed to bill priority health because a had an accident 3 weeks before, and Eyemed wouldn't cover it. The Dr. seemed in a hurry, fielded a call and made me wait. He knew his stuff. Just seemed like a number....patient in patient out... read more

The best vision care facility I've ever been to. Dr. Smith and his staff are simply amazing. Professional. Caring. Kind. Costs are fair and the skill of diagnosis and explaining what choices you can make are clear and concise. The atmosphere of this clinic is also top notch with people who work as a unit to respect your time, pocketbook, and convenience. I will never use another facility or doctor than Dr. Smith. read more

Two of my children have been going to Lifetime Eyecare for many years now. My youngest recently started. They are always doing their best to take care of their patients and to keep the costs reasonable. They make your child laugh so they enjoy the experience. They go out of thier way to make sure your glasses work for you. read more

History

Established in 1972.

Dr. Gordon Schultze began Lifetime Eyecare in October of 1972. The original office location was at the corner of Baldwin and Cottonwood Drive. In July of 1982 the office moved to its current location at 597 Baldwin Street. The office was remodeled and expanded in 1989, 1995, and again in 2009. Dr. Schultze retired from seeing patients in December of 2014 after 43 years of practicing optometry. Dr. Allen Smith joined the practice in 2005, and became an equal partner in 2011. Dr. Smith graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2002. Dr. Nicole Gdowski joined the practice in March 2014 and has been practicing since she graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2011.

Meet the Business Owner: Dr. Allen Smith ..

Dr. Smith comes to the practice with a strong desire to continue providing the very best in eye care to each and every patient. Areas of special interest for him include pediatric examinations, dry eye therapies, glaucoma treatments, and bifocal contact lens fittings. Dr. Smith received his BA in Visual Science from Ferris State University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry. Upon his completion of his degrees, he entered the US Navy and soon became recognized for his clinical skills and his love for patients. He was later appointed to be the Clinical Director of Externs, overseeing the clinical training of several student externs from two separate colleges of optometry. For his excellence in clinical performance and leadership accomplishments, he was also awarded the Navy's prestigious Commendation Medal. After being honorably released from the Navy, Dr. Smith has set his sights on private practice. He joined Lifetime Eyecare in June of 2005.
