The upper half of my eyelid was dropping over my lower half of the upper eyelid and resting on my eye lashes. This was limiting how much light coming to my eyes. The procedure was done at the Surgical Center, took 4-5 hours and I've been in recovery mode for the past 5 weeks. The surgery was noticeable to friends but ver yo has remarked about how they look natural as opposed to some folks who have the eyes operated on to look very wide open. His face was so badly injured that the paramedics did not want me to see it. When I peeked under the blood soaked sheet, they had to catch me as I almost hit the floor. I remember thinking as I ran out of the room ( so my son would not see me cry), that his face would never be the same. He would bear a disfiguring scar that might change his life forever. It did not seem possible that he could walk out of there and not look like Frankenstein. Dr. Marcadis performed an absolute miracle. He patiently, calmly and confidently stitched the flap of skin (most of the forehead) into my son's eyebrow area. No one seeing a before and after photo would have believed that this was the same child. After he finished, Dr. Marcadis cautioned me that my son might have a few hairs that would never grow along the eyebrow. As I looked at my beautiful boy's restored face, I knew that Dr. Marcadis had given my son an amazing gift. If he had not had the opportunity to be operated on by such a skilled and gentle surgeon, he would not have grown in to the handsome young man that he is today. And yes, there is a tiny area with no hair along his eyebrow. But , thanks to Dr. Marcadis, he has no visible scar. That day in the E.R. is a distant memory. Although he and his staff (wife) were very friendly, Dr Halpern did what he wanted, not what I wanted. I wanted a C, I walked away with a DDD. On every follow up appointment I expressed concern, and they continued to downplay my words, saying I looked great and I would like myself later after my skin stretched a bit. Not much to do about it after the surgery, though. Recovery was brutal and I dreaded ever having to do this again.
