I almost got scammed by Silverlake Smiles when I cracked a tooth and got an emergency dental appt 5 min from my house. Never again!!!! This Dentist is one the best examples regarding the "Art" of denistry, and there is an art to it. I had 4 horrible crowns that didn't match any of my other teeth done by another dentist. One kept falling out. I swtiched dentists and went to see Dr. Elmassian to get the crown replaced and he put a temporary in that he made right in the office in about 10 minutes. It's been a while and the temporary one that he put together on the fly matches my natural teeth so perfectly that you actually can't distinguish it from them. It also hasn't fallen out. Sadly I have to leave the state so I won't be able to follow up with having him do the rest of my dental work but this guy is a true artist. He also doesn't try to upsell you on anything and does everything possible to hang on to your natural teeth. If you want quality dental work look no further. Dentist reminded me to write this review and file a formal complaint with the Dental Board (DCA) and my insurance company. I will spare you a long review and get straight to the facts. 1. It is 2020 and this dentist claims to not have access to the insurance benefits to give you a cost summary BEFORE service. The most ridiculous thing I have ever heard considering he can just use the Delta Dental website. 2. He fraudulently billed me and my insurance for a procedure he didn't perform. After leaving his office, I was eventually able to see my primary dentist who pulled me to the side to inform me that the dentist did not do the "filling" (which he billed as something else) he claimed to have done because my dentist has both the x-rays before and after this procedure. He actually recommended that I file a formal complaint with my insurance. I am not sure if this was done to fetch a higher price for the filling he did. All in all, I have some of the best insurance money can buy. I have gotten entire root canals done for less than what he charged for a filling. I did not agree to have an uncovered procedure done. Now this dentist has sent a bill to my house threatening collection action. Let me make it clear that I will sue this dentist before they get even one shiny cent from me for this fraudulent BS. I will update this review after something comes of the reports I will be filing. Honesty is a good policy to have, bait and switch tactics have no place in a dental office. read more

Admittedly this was a few years ago. There are not many good local dentists which accept Cigna dental insurance. After a lot of online research, I defaulted to Dr. Elmassian, at his Pasadena office. For the initial visit, all I wanted was to have my teeth cleaned. I'm used to an excellent hygenist on the West side, who can get out the most stubborn of teeth plaque, and I always leave with my teeth feeling amazingly clean. Because my insurance changed from Delta to Cigna for dental care, I started looking for dentists that accepted Cigna. I finally decided to take a chance on Dr. Elmassian's office. At Dr. Elmassian's office in Pasadena, I was assigned to Raquel. What a disappointment: Raquel's cleaning technique was not thorough; I had to point out certain areas she missed. AND, she spent so much time giving me pointers on how to care for my teeth, rather than actually performing the teeth cleaning required, she never finished the cleaning. I'm of an age that her "pointers" are well known to me and definitely wasn't needed. TO TOP IT OFF, she, so she says, is only scheduled for 40 minutes to clean my teeth. So of course, between talking so much about HOW TO CLEAN MY TEETH and only given 40 minutes, the cleaning was never completed!! I was told I would have to make a follow-up appointment; this time out of my own pocket as insurance assumed that the teeth cleaning would be completed in the 60 minutes allowed. I left very unhappy. I'm not sure if Raquel's constant "pointers" on how to clean my teeth, rather than actually performing the cleaning, as well as being given only 40 minutes to actually clean my teeth, are deliberate to get another paid visit from the client, but it sure felt that way. For the follow-up appointment to finish cleaning my teeth, I was assigned to Cheryl; she was "just okay". Another unsettling aspect: normally I expect some kind of water fountain right by the clients' chairs (for spit - up, etc.). In Dr. Elmassian's office, there are none. I know that there are concerns about dental fountain waterlines being breeding sources for bacteria. This can be offset by the dentist office performing bacteria-killing maintenance. I guess they decide instead to just not having any water fountains for their patients. I decided NOT to return to Dr. Elmassian's office. My solution: return to my West side dentist and to his absolutely phenomenal dental hygienist. True, this will be out of pocket, but oh well. read more

What I loved about my experience in this office is that EVERYONE is extremely friendly and professional. Dr. Elmassian is one of the best dentists I have ever seen. Everytime I or my family have had a toothache his staff has gotten us in that same day. His office has digital xrays which helps me getting diagnosed faster in emergency visits. I also like that they can change the the xrays machines for my kids. My mother couldn't even think about going to the dentist without getting nervous and now she visit the office regularly for her cleaning. She isn't afraid to go get work done by Dr. Elmassian. I love bringing my kids to him. My daughter, who was 5 at the time, loves coming to the dentist. She has had work done and has literally fallen asleep on the chair while Dr. Elmassian works on her. He takes his time to explain and answer all of my questions. Always gives me all of my options and then gives me his best opinion of what should I do but the best part is when he asks me what i would like to do and we figure out a plan. Dr. Ani Pilikyan is an associate with Dr. Elmassian and has same heart as Dr. Elmassian. My aunt had a toothache and staff was able to get her in that same day. She took her time to diagnose her and treat her that same day. She is very patient and kind. Dr. Ani is very knowledgeable and experienced. I am able to get my teeth cleaned by her and she is very gentle. I totally recommend Dr. Elmassian to anyone. He is very ethical and honest. His staff is very friendly. Liar - He'll do anything to get you in the door so he can bill insurance. They told me they could take out my wisdom tooth. I took the day off from work and went to his office only to see the "doctor" dressed in a suit with no scrubs on. I was a little concerned when I initially noticed this. I sit down and he takes an x-ray with their OUTDATED equipment and then he tells me he'll refer me to the specialist to remove the tooth. BEFORE, I went there, I asked the receptionist the cost for the removal and they quoted me an EXACT price. Then once I get there, they tell me they'll refer me. HMMMM seems like a scam to me! Not sure why he has so many good reviews, I'm guessing they are from his relatives and friends. The office is OLD and OUTDATED AND TECHNOLOGY IS FROM 30 YEARS AGO(I'm guessing from when he originally started the practice). BOTTOM LINE: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Dr. Joe is great! He did some extensive work on me throughout the year last year. Thanks Dr. J. Only one hiccup: The good Dr. placed a filling in a tooth that ruined my bite. I went to the Dr. 3-4 times to have it readjusted. He just couldn't fix it. In fact, Dr. J told me that it was my old fillings... yup, the ones that have been in my mouth all this time (6 years+) that were the problems... sure Doctor. Anything you say. Well, I had to go to another dentist to get it fixed. Cost me a couple hundred dollars too. It took the dentist 10-minutes to fix the uneven filling. Oh, and it was the one Dr. J put in - go figure. He said any dentist should have seen that this filling was too high. For that, Dr. J gets a 2-star, but he was an awesome dude while I was a patient, and his staff is nothing short of amazing so +1 to that. I am sure this incident was the exception and not the norm, so will definitely recommend his services. In all +2 stars for the hiccup, +1 because his staff is legit, and + 1 more because 3 stars just does not do his office justice. p.s. - he has massage chairs. F-Yeah! read more

If there was an option to give a sixth star, Dr. Elmassian would get it. I had been delinquent in my toothcare for a few years and when I ended up cracking a filling, I knew I would have to get more than just that taken care of. Dr. Elmassian never made me feel bad for having a mouthfull of cavities and a terrible habit of skipping the dental floss. He's got a gentle hand, a great attitude, and genuinely wants to help his patients. His staff is the best. Cindy greets you with a warm smile, the assistants are extremely capable and have great rapport with Dr. Elmassian, the dental technicians (who do the cleanings) are experienced and love what they do. Most of his staff has been with him for more than five years, and I think he's got a few members of the team who have been with him for more than 15 years. To me, that says huge things about him as a person. I had been having a lot of trouble with one of my front teeth for a few years and it was a true nightmare. I was hesitant with every dentist I went to when I had to get work done because of all my previous experiences but I have to say Dr. Elmassian changed that. I would love to give Dr Elmassian 5 stars, I really would because HE himself is a great dentist and I've only had good experiences being seen by him. I've had a lot of work done on my teeth over my 3 decades and am very sensitive even when just getting a regular cleaning .I've been to many different dentists, he is by far one of the best. HOWEVER, he recently hired another dental associate that works in his DTLA location and my experience with her is the reason I cannot give him 5. The first time she cleaned my teeth she dropped tools on my face (yea... those sharp pointy ones that make your gums bleed...) more than once. Imagine my surprise when I showed up to have my fillings done about a month ago and she was the one who sat down after the assistant prepped me for the work (I didn't know she was licensed to do anything beyond clean teeth, I wasn't made aware she would be the one performing the work until she got started). To my horror she was the one who administered the numbing shots (which she had to do more than once, because the first time I could still feel pressure in places that were supposed to be numb) and proceeded with everything else. After a painful hour and a half to replace one filling that had come out and repair an adjacent cavity, I was finally finished but left with an uneven bite and pain in the area that had been worked on for a solid 2 weeks. I've had at least 10 cavities done (probably closer to 20 by now) and I can't recall pain lingering for more than a few hours after the work was performed. This time it lasted 2 whole weeks, the first of which was too much to even chew on that side of my mouth. To summarize, Dr Elmassion is a fantastic dentist but I will not be coming back here because of my most recent experience. If you do make a visit for anything other than a cleaning I would strongly recommend requesting to be seen by Dr. Elmassian himself. read more
