Absolutely terrible office. I made an appointment with Stuto and when I arrived they told me he was out of the office and I'd be seeing another doctor. I then waited for an hour to be seen only for the receptionist to be extremely rude to me. I was eventually taken into one of the rooms only to wait another 45 minutes - I literally had to come out and check multiple times and each time the receptionist gave me attitude. The doctor saw me for 30 minutes and then sent me somewhere else to get tests done. When I called to make a follow up appointment the receptionist said the doctor would be out of the office for over two weeks, mind you I can't walk right now until he sees me again. Then a few days later I find an appointment with a different doctor in that office and book it. When I show up no one is there and they don't answer the phone for 20 minutes where I finally connect with someone she stella me that the doctor decided he wanted to leave early for the day and I could come back another time if I wanted. read more

Let me start by saying Dr. Stuto is very professional very friendly and very likable! So why the one star!? This review is solely based on the unprofessional disrespectful front desk ladies! OK So let's talk about it! I came into the office on October 18th seen the doc everything went great. He put In a order for orthopedics. I told the front lady about it. She like great I'll give your insurance a call today meaning on the 18th but that didn't happen! Weeks go by my feet are hurting and my knees are starting to cave-in. I called the office November 5th One of the ladies take a message and said she'll leave a note and have her call me back When she arrives at 2 PM I didn't get that phone call! So I called my insurance to see if the order was put in. Nope! no order put in. so I called back the next day November6 now this receptionist said oh she only works on Friday! And she didn't leave a note! Okay! At this point I ask to speak to the doctor, told him It's going on 3 weeks now and I'm still waiting for The receptionist to just make a PHONE CALL!! he said he will handle it I finally get a phone call November 8th from the receptionist with so much aggression in her voice! Telling me she was sick for three weeks and that I'm not the only patient! Wow ok! So I asked her to put the doctor on the phone she put me on hold for about six minutes comes back and said he's busy then her tone changed it went from very hostile to apologetic to she's going to try to do the best she can then to shes sorry! At that point she knew she was out of line! She made the call 3 weeks later! On November 8th! How do I know.. my Insurance told me and it was approved the same day she made the call Fast forward to today! I am in the office on time as away a lady gets there after me but she goes before me I get up and I ask what's going on and tell her the time of my appointment she gives me a very vague and dismissive response I go and sit back down at this point I'm waiting for an hour now it happens again a guy that came after me was called she tries to play me like I'm stupid and say there are different doctors for different people but me and the guy are there to see the same doctor so how was he being called before me so I ask how many people are ahead of me because clearly I was here before everyone she turns her back to me and continue to do what she was doing I ask to speak to the doctor She waits about two minutes before she call his name out just three steps away from her in a different room he comes out and I explain to him what happened! Then she jumps in and tries to over talk me then she whispered to the doctor and told him I was rude to a lady on the phone but what she didn't know is all my phone calls are recorded! So not only are you a liar you're a disgusting disrespectful unprofessional worker! These front desk ladies are bad for business! They do not represent the doctor very well! Next step is HR! First appointment with Dr Stuto yesterday and he was very considerate. Great bedside manner, explaining all my treatment options . Immediately put me in a boot and ordered X-rays for a possible stress fracture on my foot. We will know more after the X-rays. Since I am diabetic, he gave me some great general foot care tips. Highly recommend, and no wait in his Bay Ridge office. read more

I like Dr. Stuto. He is very warm and personable. The office though is a disaster. Tons of people waiting forEVER all the time. People complain, get angry, storm out after waiting for like 1-2 hours (I've seen this happen 3 times during 3 different visits). They also only take cash or check which is pretty strange. And the waiting room is really really old. When I have to go, I make sure I go in the morning to avoid waiting forever and dealing with a bunch of angry, smelly people (yes it's so small that you can smell your neighbors). I also didn't get a correct diagnosis of my foot; I don't know if that was the Dr.'s fault or if it mattered, but he assessed it as broken but it turns out it wasn't a month later. Go figure. He said it was a small break and it would be treated the same either way, but I felt like kind of an idiot going around telling people it was broken when it apparently wasn't actually broken. I went to Dr. Stuto for help with multiple warts. To quote Dr. Stuto: "You've got a lot of warts, my friend," and a few were particularly gnarly (big, deep, in bad locations vis a vis my toes, etc). Dr. Stuto took it to those warts with everything he had. It hurt. A lot. BUT after about 2 months of going once every week or two, with time off for a vacation, the warts are totally gone. Throughout, Dr. Stuto was totally low BS. He explained treatment options and gave me the choice of what kind of treatment plan to follow (i.e., the multiple "grenades" of the super-strong-hurt-like-hell medicine to deal with the warts efficiently, or a longer-term program of slower progress). Some weeks were grenade weeks others were not. And i knew what i was getting into. He's very direct and can come off as a little gruff at first, but he cares about his patients (he even remembered from week to week what was happening in my life and treated accordingly) and reports that he really likes what he does. His staff is great I hope i never have to see him again, but if i get another wart, I'll run back to Dr. Stuto. read more

Dr. Stuto is an awesome doctor. Other people are right-the wait is really long and the waiting room is tiny. But! The wait is long because Dr. Stuto will spend all of the time with you that you need. I shattered a toenail abroad and have to have it dealt with, and Dr. Stuto also found out that I had broken the toe. One week later, my daughter also broke her toe. (!) He took really good care of us both, and we'll be seeing him for anything foot related from now on. You will wait, but it will be worth it. Your feet will be in good hands! *ba-dum-ching!* read more

Horrific waiting room . Toilet next to tiny cluster of seats. Smell of feces eminating from the bathroom. Waiting now 2 1/2 hours to get glass from foot as is everyone else. Now they say they may need X-rays so waiting for special room (give me a break) for a tiny sliver of visible glass. Don't yet know how dr is... Back from 3 hour wait. Doctor very nice but with a 30 dollar co-pay, he took out the glass splinter (deftly, painlessly) but didn't really examine my feet which he should have done since I waited so long and still had that copay. I raised it from a one star to a 2 1/2 because the dr was nice. read more

Just started going to Dr. Stuto because he was in the area and I had an ailment in the joint of my toe. It's a shame that the office staff sucks so bad because he's a great Dr. He's very nice and attentive. I had a good experience with him. However, there's one woman running the reception and you will ALWAYS be waiting to be seen for at least 45 minutes. So don't make any plans after your appointment. Following being sent for bloodwork, I called the office on 3 separate occasions to get my results because they never called me. On all occasions I got put on hold for 10 minutes and ultimately just gave up and called again another day. So if you're willing to overlook the pace in which the office is run, Dr. Stuto is a good choice. BUT they don't take cards (only cash and check) which also sucks because they don't tell you that until you go to pay. read more

Dr. Joseph A. Stuto was great today as I dealt with a very painful ingrown toe nail. I am new to Brooklyn and found them online driven by the reviews here. And I am glad to say I was not let down! Reviews were accurate. I was lucky I called and was sitting in front of the doctor in about 30 minutes. I would gladly wait though, because he was thorough and took his time with me. I made an appointment for my daughter a month and a half ago. When we checked in the receptionist decided to verify my coverage. She asked me if I knew Dr. Stuff was in network with my insurance, I said I'm not sure while thinking that's your job to find out not mine. Then she said they had an issue with a previous pt whom had the same plan and if it wasn't covered would I be willing to pay $125 for the visit I said fine. I take a seat she calls me back to the desk to ask if my insurance requires a referral. I said I gave you the referral she said yea but it's for Dr. Cohen and he's retired. This is when I lost it! I told her she was unprofessional and incompetent. I've worked in the medical field for 10 years and never have I ever heard of coverage being verified the day of the exam. You're supposed to do that at least a couple of days prior to the appointment and inform the pt if the doc is in network, how much out of pocket, and ask about the referral. She goes well that's not our a policy. I said well it should be because this is so unprofessional to let the pt walk in blindly and be told all of this at the last minute. I made this appointment 6 weeks ago you had more than enough time to tell me this crap. The doctor was great! Very nice made my daughter feel comfortable and gave us some helpful suggestions on how to help her feet. I would come back because I liked him but that front desk needs work. read more

Dr. Stuto has a very busy office but I was impressed with the courteous and friendly manner of his staff, as well as their ability to run a "tight ship" in a small space.I had a swollen toe that was very painful and prevented me from walking. The receptionist told me to come right over and that I would probably have to wait. I waited a half hour which was perfectly fine since they were accommodating me on an emergency basis. What impressed me most was that Dr. Stuto gave me his private cell phone number in order to reach him if I needed to since I was leaving on vacation two days later and he had prescribed medication for me. Now really, how many doctors do that? When I commented on that, he was very sincere in his concern for my well being and I could see in his interaction with his other patients, it was his usual manner. He is an incredibly knowledgable man and after putting me in a boot for a few days, getting a sonogram and then advising me on the right shoes I no longer have any pain. Dr Stuto was nic eonce I got to see him, but he saw me 2 hours later than my appointment. He also was also too fast and kind of brushed off my questions. I don't feel like he was listening to the problems I presented, and the only advice he gave me was to do a calf stretch I had already found online. The real kicker though has been dealing with his staff after. They are nice but seem so disorganized. I went in February and have yet to receive a paper bill in the mail even though I call every two weeks. It;s kind of out of the way and I really don't want to have to make a special trip. I've also been told every time that they are checking with my insurance on orthodics but they have yet to tell me yes or no. Sometimes when I call they act annoyed. Overall, the experience has been annoying and a waste of my copay. read more

I have used Dr. Stuto's services for three separate fractures over four years now (I'm extremely unlucky). He is amazing. I have never experienced more than a 20 minute wait and he and his staff, both at the Brooklyn Heights and Bay Ridge office, are so accommodating. He caught something on my x-ray that they missed in the ER, organized me to get a medical service from a salesperson he worked with for free, and made time for all of my questions. I was having a difficult, painful time walking due to a ridged/arthritic big to on my right foot. I consulted with many doctors/surgeons and Dr. Stuto to discuss a solution that would relieve the pain and return my mobility. Dr. Stuto and I discussed numerous options and decided on orthotics with a board under the big toe and EPAT treatments as a first course of treatment. The treatments are non-invasive and send shock waves to the damaged tissue of the joint. After six treatments I was still having pain. After a few months the pain started to subside. Eventually, I was walking and wondering why I was able to walk a mile to the gym and another mile walk back home with minimal pain. I believe the EPAT treatments made a great recovery possible. The toe is not 100% but I can now use the treadmill at the gym, which I had to give up, and I walk without the limp and pain that I had before the EPAT treatments. Dr. Stuto was patient in discussing all the pros and cons of surgery, etc. I am very grateful for the work that Dr. Stuto did to bring back my mobility with limited pain and without surgery that would have required a lengthy recovery. If I need additional EPAT treatments in the future I will not hesitate to see Dr. Stuto again. Not all podiatrists use this innovative equipment. Dr. Stuto stays current on all treatments for the feet. read more
