Thank you for your respect, Dr. Energy Saver! Previous 2-star Review: Unfortunately, this has been a very difficult experience for me to address standing water & drainage in my crawl space. I agreed to work with Dr. Energy Saver back in October, hoping to have the work done before the rains started. However, the work was just completed on December 31. The communication of the team was absolutely horrible - with each of the team members understanding that my project was at different points. I was told it was done multiple times - with the piping above-ground, and an alarm that was supposed to be installed still in the box. Brandon and his team finally got it figured out and did a great job communicating, but there was still confusion between the manager, Sean, and the office staff, who even threatened via phone to put a lean on my home, even though I had been calling and emailing them about the poor work and needing to get the installation completed. Grateful to Brandon for his work, and his respectfully addressing my concerns and caring about me as a customer. I would highly recommend him and his crew. However, the rest of the team really needs to get their communication and customer service addressed - it's very draining (pun intended) to have to manage and check the work you're paying someone else to complete. read more

Sean Becker came to my home to check my crawl space. He was professional and thorough. Sean took videos of what he saw under my home, shared them with me and took the time to explain what he saw. It is important to note that Sean did an extremely good job of explaining my options and he made no attempt to "oversell" me or to get me to make a decision. It was refreshing to deal with an ethical company that was more interested in providing information than in selling m something I did not need. read more

Description of work: Removed old attic insulation, air sealed attic and new cellulose insulation in attic. Spray foam in crawl space under house. Was impressed with the communication of the office and the on-site production crew. Had two crews work on our project due to unforeseen rescheduling with ice storm in the area. Tyler and Brandon's crew were a pleasure to work with, friendly, communicative and timely. They put down plastic to protect my house and cleaned up afterwards. The identified wet areas in the roof I was not aware of and were very communicative with pictures and had manager out quickly to make a plan and we are going to be working with Klaus Roofing for a roof replacement. There were also areas of the attic that the crew was not able put cellulose insulation (at no fault of the crew - it is a 125 year old house) and they made sure that my initial estimate was adjusted for the work performed. I can't speak to the quality of their work but they are severely overpriced. They have this "sign up today and get 5% off" gimmick. I'm always Leary I'd BUY TODAY sales, if a company is reputable why does it matter if I sign today or next week? Or in 2 months when I can afford it. Nevertheless, I found another company to do the same work $6000 less. That's right, $6000, how can you you stay in business ripping people off for the much money. read more

Description of work: Replaced/upgraded insulation and air sealed attics, basement/crawl spaces air sealed, climate controlled, and insulated, insulated cantilever floor. Went well. Crews arrived on time, were pleasant, and cleaned up satisfactorily. Asked them to come back after job was done to update a few things and they did so without any complaints. They also added several projects to our initial order and fit it in within their original schedule without having to come back later. Our basement crawl space was completely transformed from a dirt/wet rocky floor to a now useable space for storage. The attic insulation (cellulose) has made a big difference with heat/AC loss compared to the fiberglass we had and the spray foam underneath the kitchen has made the room smell better, no more temperature swings at night, and floors are no longer cold. It wasn't cheap by any means but we'll be saving on energy and overall comfort has improved indefinitely. read more

To start, please take the lack of poor reviews of this company with a grain of salt. The owner, Josh Lowe, said he required legal contracts from his attorney to prevent posting anything about him or his company online or on any social media before he would take any further steps to address my problems. This means if there is a problem, you can't tell anyone about it, even if he does not fix it. I did not agree to sign anything. ANY company that requires a "Gag Order" before fixing problems is one that has something to hide. First sign you should avoid this company! In addition, Josh Lowe DOES NOT GUARANTEE the work. There is only a 1 year limited warranty for "defects", which the homeowner has to find and bring to their attention. Hope you are up to crawling around your attics with a flashlight! I did and found a whole room left uninsulated. From the contract: We specifically disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including, without limitation, the warranty of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. "Fitness for a particular purpose" means they do not even guarantee that the insulation will actually insulate. Not to mention my Baby Monitor has a longer warranty. Shouldn't a product that is supposed to last forever have a warrant that reflects that? My roof certainly does! What if the insulation cracks? Pulls away from the wall? Has leaks? All of these are common problems with foam insulation. I wish I had found that clause before I contracted the company. I contracted the company to replace my insulation in October of 2015. They advocated foam insulation, which they stated would keep my house cool and decrease my winter bills, and I hired them despite the much higher estimate ($8352; the competitor estimates $2500-3300 for their recommended fiberglass batting). I have now had two summers with the insulation and my house now is significantly hotter and often hotter than outside. I consulted 4 other insulation companies, who all stated that the foam insulation was not appropriate and would contribute to the heating problem. I contacted the company and met with the Josh Lowe twice (in June of 2016, again in June of 2017), implied I was lying when I explained my complaints that my house was hotter. He said the insulation was working fine and refused to acknowledge any problem existed and that any change to the insulation would not help. He kept repeating his company tag line, that he "had fixed my uncomfortable home forever", but then said I had to get an air conditioner (an additional $6000) to fix my uncomfortable home. He also repeatedly said the other companies were liars and that Fiberglass didn't work. I can not stress enough how unbelievably insulting and dismissive Josh Lowe was. I strongly recommend avoiding this company and do not fall for their high pressure sales tactics. Trusting this company has been the most costly and upsetting mistake I have ever made. My house is now unlivable any day with a temperature over 80 degrees and I have to find a way to afford another $6000 to fix the problem he created. read more

it looks like they just came in (2 small houses) and simply blew cellulose all over the place. they did not install suitable barriers around the attic access and bathroom fans. the bathroom fans in both houses exit into the attic and were buried in cellulose insulation, which from there moved into the fan housings and leaked into the bathrooms below. the tenants in both houses complained to me (the landlord) that cellulose rains down on them each time they open the attic door. addendum: to be fair, I have to acknowledge that I did not complain to them directly, but went ahead and had my handyman fix the problem. I had simply assumed that doing a quick & sloppy job was their means of offering the lowest price. so my yelp review was the first time they heard about my misgivings and they contacted me immediately and offered to have someone back out to fix it. so in light of that, I changed my review from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

We highly recommend Josh and his crew. We bought our house almost two years ago and quickly realized how cold it was during the winter and how hot it was during the summer. The previous owner had removed all insulation under the house due to a rodent problem, and the insulation installed by the previous owner in the attic was moldy and did not look like it was professionally installed. Our heat pump would struggle to maintain a warm house during the winter, and we were unable to cool it off during the hot summer. Josh and his crew were able to remove all our old insulation, kill the existing mold, re-install new insulation, as well as eliminate our moisture problem (there was moisture under the house and in the attic). The transformation was amazing ! It is like night and day. Our floors were suddenly warm (project was done late last winter) and we can now walk around barefoot during cold winter days (the floors used to be rather chilly). Prior to the work being done, our heat pump would often stay on all day trying to maintain our desired heat - now it hardly needs to be on as our house now keeps the warmth in much more efficiently during cold days. Also, During the summer (we had some hot days this year) we close our windows in the morning and the house is able to stay cool all day long, even without using the A/C (even when it's over 100 outside). Prior to the new insulation, our upstairs rooms were almost unlivable due to the high heat - no longer an issue! I'll give these guys an extra star for coming all the way up to Portland, but that may actually be a prime factor for my review. Hired these guys because they fit our tight schedule better than anyone else we contacted...except their truck broke down and they couldn't arrive any sooner than the next company we considered. Well, stuff happens. When they did arrive and worked, the over-spray was pretty bad, and they sprayed a flat wall that only needed to be sheetrocked. I had to cut channels in the foam to furr 2"out the wall so we could drywall it. They offered us credit for phase two of our project, pointing out that they have a big vacuum that would suck out all the old insulation and century of dust in a ceiling that would be vaulted.I was more than happy to have someone else do that. When they arrived , there was no vacuum - it had broken down the day before. So 4 youths dug out the old insulation by hand. Of course, there was no vacuuming so there was plenty of blown-in insulation and dust showering down on us when when took out the plaster and lath. Why the owner (who held the contract) neither complained nor terminated the contract right then, I don't know, but she signed them up to do the foam insulation for this 2nd phase. In negotiating the contract, even though the estimator saw the plan with canister lights and skylights, no one said anything about having them covered until we called to find out when they were arriving (the truck broke down yet again). So, BTW they'd cover those lights and skylights for an additional $975! I drove from 50 miles away on another job to mask them all IN TWO HOURS! Now I'm putting up the bead board ceiling and I've already encountered two canisters with so much foam behind them that they're pushed at least 1/2" lower than the bottom of the rafters. Oh, and though they did better on dealing with overspray, I'm still scraping a fair amount. Well, that fired me up again. I'm taking back that extra star. read more

Josh and his energetic, professional team totally transformed our 1976 White Elephant house. It was poorly insulated so suffered from excess heat in the summer, and was leaky as a sieve in the winter. Dr. Energy Saver has made a deep scientific study of how to properly weatherize a house, and we are so glad we decided to go with them. The difference in the house is amazing. There is really nothing more important in a house than that it be a comfortable place to be. read more
