Do not use RIVER ROOFING. our daughter n son in law paid for home and shop to be roofed. They use sub contractors and don't check their work. They have had to come 5 times to resolve several issues. New roof has not been a good thing. Please beware. read more

We first worked with River Roofing about five years ago during a major renovation. Although they were brought in as a subcontractor, their work on our home in Eugene has been outstanding. Project Quality & Performance: * Installation: They installed three large skylights in our great room and a fourth in the bedroom. * Durability: Five years later, the roof is beautiful and there have been zero leaks or mechanical issues with the skylights. The flashing and integration with the roofline are perfect. Exceptional Service: Recently, I lost the remote to one of the skylights while it was stuck in the open position. Despite not being the direct hiring party five years ago, River Roofing came out free of charge to help me get it closed. It is rare to find a well-established local company that stands behind their work with this level of integrity years after a project is complete. They replaced my roof with a 50 year guarantee about 15 years ago and as everyone in the Northwest knows moss is a constant problem and needs to be addressed periodically. I consulted with them about recommending a roof cleaning contractor that would perform the service without voiding the warranty and they declined to advise me of any certified contractors. They do not provide this service and it worries me that their warranty is probably useless if you have some other contractor clean the roof. read more

I reached out for an estimate on a new roof project. The estimator, David Putzier, came out to look at the project. Wasn't extremely friendly from the get go, never gave me an estimate even though I emailed multiple times to check in. He literally never emailed back. I had to take off time from work to make sure I was home for the scheduled estimate. Sure, the estimate was free and apparently they feel the same way about my time. I would not recommend this company. read more

They were here in a couple of hours, not to give me an estimate, but to evaluate and fix my problem that day. River roofing replaced a cracked vent and the leaking stopped. I hired River Roofing to replace our roof after accepting a bid and signing a contract with Alan Ranch, who was completely professional. The total cost in the contract I signed was $12,250.00 and required a down-payment of $3,000.00. A date was set for the project, but over the next 4 months it was changed 3 times. The day before our original start date I get a message "reminding" me that the crew would be there at 7 am the next morning. The crew came and tore the old roof off and was very careful to clean up all the debris. They even swept the property with a magnetic strip. Things started to go wrong when they came back (almost a week later) to finish the job and I asked to talk to the project manager about replacing the barges above the porch. This was something I had discussed with Alan when I signed the original contract. He gave me an estimate and said that if we wanted to add it that an Addendum to the contract would have to be made before the work commenced. One of the crew members referred me to someone named Dave who was now in charge of our project. Dave never came to the site but called me back and gave me an estimate over $5,000.00 more than the one I got from Alan. I declined. The crew replaced one side of the roof then left (presumably for lunch) around 12. They left all their tools (several still hooked up to an air compressor on the ground), all the roofing material and a large open cardboard box perched on the Ridgeline of the roof. The power cords were wrapped around pallets of roofing, also perched precariously on the Ridgeline and hanging off the side of the house. We have a small child who could have easily pulled thousands of pounds of material down on his head with one tug. I called the office at the end of the day when it was obvious that the crew would not be returning and told them about the unsafe jobsite. Dave showed up to pick everything up and told me the crew had probably gone to finish another job. Then he accused me of lying about what time the crew left. When the crew returned it was not on time and they left a huge mess. No one swept the yard for nails or tacks and we have found hundreds of them already. Almost a month went by and I didn't receive a bill or hear from the company. I finally called to ask about the bill and the photos they were supposed to send me for my insurance company. Dave told me he hadn't done the bill yet, but would both email and mail me copies of the photos. He never printed any pictures, or emailed me any digital copies and when the bill came Dave had started with the total cost before the deposit, added additional labor and materials for extra work that he did not create an Addendum for and about which I was not informed, then listed my $3,000.00 deposit as a line item, added it to the original bid price plus the unauthorized charges and came up with a bill over $6,000.00 more than I owed. By the time I received this in the mail the due date he had set was less than a week away. It seems that either Dave is not qualified to be do the job he is doing, is attempting to commit fraud, or (more likely) is retaliating against a client for informing him that the job site he was responsible for was full of dangerous OSHA violations. I cannot recommend this company to anyone. read more

River Roofing did the original roof on our home prior to our purchasing it; we now have damage from a tree limb falling and cracking the tiles, so I thought I would use them for the repair. It has been over a week since my initial call (I've made three subsequent calls) to have them come look and provide an estimate for the repair. I've never gotten a call back. This morning I phoned again and asked the receptionist if I should just presume they were either too busy for the job or not interested in bidding it and her response was, "not necessarily". Wow. Just wow. Please don't do me any favors... I'm pretty sure I can find a company actually interested in my business. read more

We had a leaky shake roof so hired River Roofing to replace it with a shingle roof. The work was scheduled for a couple of months in the future but they were able to start a few weeks earlier than anticipated. The workers were friendly and professional and cleaned up the property at the end of every day. The roof turned out beautifully, and the estimate was to the penny. Everyody said, "River Roofing is the best!" They weren't. They did a sloppy job, left cigarette butts all over our driveway and didn't seem to care when we brought up our concerns about the job they had done. And don't get me started on the price. I've since talked to two other friends who've been similarly underwhelmed by this operation. I don't mind paying more for good service and a quality job, but these guys are resting on their laurels. I give River Roofing one star because the only good things that came out of working with them was 1) roof looks great 2) cleanup was sufficient and 3) it hasn't leaked so far with all the rain that's started in Eugene. Communication with River Roofing was absolutely horrendous. After the initial estimate I booked the roof replacement, had a scheduled start date, and was told they'd contact me a day or two in advance to confirm. I was also assured that the whole replacement would only take about a week, that there may be a day or two lag time between tear off, shingle delivery, and installation. Day before the appointment came and I didn't hear from them. I called to make sure we were still on for tomorrow, and they tell me I am not scheduled for 3 weeks later. Confused and irritated I tell them I have emails with with Alan proving that he scheduled me for this start date, but apparently there was nothing they could do. I wasn't scheduled for the day I was told, and they couldn't make changes because they're completely booked. I was angry they screwed up my scheduling considering we've been waiting months to get the project started. The roof gets torn off and covered with the protective felt lining, and a week goes by with no word from River Roofing. I send another email asking when the next steps will occur, and the next day (with no email response) I come home to boxes of shingles on my roof. Alright wonderful, finally things are moving again. Another several days goes by and still no sign that any installation has begun. I call River Roofing yet again to find out when they plan on being out here, and am told they are on a 7-10 day delay. Well they eventually showed up because when I came from work some days later, the roof had been started and Alan was still there cleaning up. He informs me the roof should be done in a day or two. Thank God, I just want this to be over. However, another week or so goes by and the roof is being done little by little, not done in a day or two. The entire installation took 3 weeks total, not 1, and there was no communication to inform me of any changes or delays unless I contacted them. Additional note, any time I would call, no one at the office would be able to help me--I just kept being told I would get a call back, quite annoying. What good are the receptionists if they can't help with simple questions such as scheduling. My husband was very frustrated about the whole situation as well and left several messages, they didn't even bother to call him back at all. Lastly, I felt very taken advantage of. Being a female, first time homeowner in my early 30s I definitely felt like I was thrown on the back burner, like they were going to just take their time, give my appointments away, and convince me there was nothing they could do about it, that they've never seen a summer like this before and there was just too many appointments booked. I had several people recommend River Roofing to me, I saw all their positive reviews online, and I thought their bid was fair. However when I got the final bill, I was charged almost $1000 more in labor and materials. I was able to get an explanation of the charges but they still ended up being overpriced, unfortunately that's what you agree to when you sign the contract. I just pray that this roof holds up for the next 5 years so I don't have to deal with River Roofing ever again. read more

The final cost was exactly what the quote was. The workers were pleasant and cleaned up after themselves both days. Worked hard and did everything they said they would and even removed several wasps nests they found. They were recommended to me by several neighbors and I would recommend them to others. read more
