You go in there, you see little bits of paraphernalia that you recognise and reassures you that you are getting a mans haircut. The cut throat razor, the badger bristle shaving brush, that roll of grease proof paper they unfold around your neck before putting the cloak over you, the over-sized cotton bud soaked in meths that they set fire to....woah, what? What IS that thing, put it out!! A proper Turkish hair dresser this, and as of today it is my hairdresser/barber of choice. You are greeted with a smile and almost immediately have your head bent forwards into a sink having your hair washed. No lounging back in a big leather chair, no head massage, you are there for a haircut dude!! Down to the serious subject of cutting: great attention to detail, not at all rushed but they attack the job knowing that a man that wants/likes to spend an hour in the chair is a rare beast. Going back to that flaming over-sized cotton bud, well, it is an old Turkish method of getting rid of any hairs in your ears apparently...it gets repeatedly flicked in your ears with one hand as the other hand makes sure you don't go up in flames. Kinda scary, but an experience that everyone gets when there, whether you have bushes billowing from your ear canal or not (as is my case). I like it here, and will be back to try the morning shave, hot towel and face massage.

I wanted to like this place, I really, really did. So I'll start my review with what was positive…read moreabout my visit. The haircut I walked away with was ultimately a good one: I had arrived on what could quite fairly be called a 'bad hair day', and came out with a nice new do. And in many ways, that's all I want to take away from the experience. I'd gone on a Wahanda deal, which made the cut exceptionally good value, and I quite like the quirky premises. However, the customer service I received was quite wide of the mark and surprised me a great deal. I don't think the staff intended to be rude, but fundamentally this is the only time I've EVER been made to feel ashamed of my hair in a salon (and I've rocked up at salons in some fairly unkempt states in the past, curly hair does that to you if you don't have two hours a day to 'tame' it) and I just don't think this is excusable. I was already feeling embarrassed about the state my hair was in when I walked in, and normally, what happens next is that the hairdresser puts you at your ease. That's the professional thing to do IMHO. What I actually got was wincing 'yuck' expressions from my stylist as she pulled on my hair (we can see you in the mirror you know). I was then asked 'do I brush it?' and I did not need to be told that there was probably not much they could do for me. I went to the sinks feeling like a lost cause! Most of all though, I definitely did not need the assistant asking me cheerily So! Do you like your frizz? What sort of a daft question is that? After all that, they actually did an amazing job as I knew they would believe it or not even horrible hair like mine responds well to being properly treated, and I won't fault the treatments so why put me on the back foot from the start? I can honestly say this is the first time in about 20 years I have felt insecure about my hair, even if it is sorted for now.

Anywhere which is a vintage shop with a hidden barber shop in the back is going to get my attention, and after reading magazines where Agnes Deyne and other celebs talking about it, I knew it was going to be an interesting experience. Normally when I get a haircut, it is a £5 job in Scarborough. Short back and sides with a trimmer and a cut on top. When I entered, I was offered a cup of tea and a mince pie(YES!) Then I was taken for a consultation and Sarah told me what would suit me. I was then treated to a shampoo and head massage and another mince pie! Sarah then cut and styled my hair She was very chatty, very nice and wasn't the standard barber shop chatter which was a nice change to have in London. You definitely notice the difference with the type of haircuts, the look is so much better then what it was. I have read some of the reviews below and can't believe what has been said. This is why QYPE is so good, everyone gets to share their opinions, however it has to be fair. Paul and the crew are great, the shop and layout is so cool and the overall experience is 5 stars. The décor of the treatment room was lovely and it smelled really nice, but I wasn't impressed by the music. I intended to book another massage with him next month, after he finished the massage, but Chris informed me that he would be leaving this month and I asked where he would be going, but I forgot, so I called Aveda to find out, who informed me that they don't know, right! Don't waste any time and book a massage with him now, as he will be gone soon. 100% highly recommended.
