Cute displays and history of Joshua tree. Def have nothing to complain about. There's a lot of good foliage in the area.

5 stars Upon entering the visitor's center, I was greeted by a little museum that NPS is so well-known for. It details the rock formations and the wildlife that can be expected while hiking. Within the visitor's center is a gift shop with gorgeous Joshua Tree Nat'l Park-inspired clothing and products. I recommend purchasing merch here since a portion of proceeds go back to the parks. The souvenirs are also much more affordable than privately-owned gift shops nearby. I bought a pin ($7) and a Travel Stamp sticker ($3.99). The office staff are also very knowledgeable about the area. The young man I spoke to highlighted the areas I asked about - see photo for highlighted map. I wanted short 1-mile hikes along with Heart Rock & Arch Rock. 5/5 stars for service! The restrooms inside are clean and there are also portapotties in the parking lot with outdoor sinks available. Their parking lot is small, but there's plenty of street parking. The entrance to the national park is really close by as well.

Best service/help at a National Park!

There are 2 "North" Visitor Centers - but it looks like this one is for the "West" entrance of the North side of Joshua Tree. It's a quick visit - parking was a bit hard to find. The rest room is all the way inside the building, so you have to pass by all the info area before you can reach the gift shop and the restroom. I came here TWICE thus far, because I drove to Joshua Tree National Park twice in the visit. The first time, I drove from the nearby hotel (as well as the California visit center) - so I was in awe of the art and info teachings by the National Park Rangers and Scientists. The second time, I was in the rush to the restroom - so I noticed how bad the set up was. The National Park Rangers and Scientists make the personality of the visitor center. They represent the face of the park. I'm so glad to get some time to talk to them and learn how to navigate the park for the day. Thank you for your services, Rangers and Scientists!!

We came as a family (party of 11) to visit the park. We had a few 1st time visitors so stopping here was GREAT. They have a restroom a few Souvenir items and a mini museum. We got a Junior Ranger Booklet along with a map of the park. The staff there was friendly and you can tell they love their job. Make sure to keep that map of the park with you at all times because once you enter there is no service this highlighted map was a life saver.

Great place to get the rundown on the trails and other sites in Joshua tree. Theres a little museum with information and a gift shop that sells cute little Knick knacks. Parking is in the back, bathrooms are outside. Chris was nice with the information he provided us.

After completing two exercises in the junior range book, he was ready to receive the honor of becoming a junior ranger!

I brought my son to Joshua tree for the first time. Stopped by the visitor center to pick up a junior Ranger badge! I highly recommend doing this if you have kiddos between the ages of four and 12.

If you're close to Palm Springs, CA do yourself a huge favor and seek out this National Park! Always wanted to come here and the opportunity presented itself this last California trip! We planned for a dusk entrance so we ate at the Joshua Tree Saloon before we drove to Geology Tour Rd. We checked prior at the visitor center what's the place to see the stars from best? The Ranger said Geological Tour Road so that's what we mapped and drove too. In October it was cool in the evening, so bring a sweatshirt or light jacket. Highly recommend the star gazing! I hear many go for the sunsets! We did dusk it was excellent on our clear night 10/14/2023! Make your own memories and iPhones will capture amazing pictures on a 3 second aperture setting capturing the star light. Just keep your phone steady. Great time!

The Joshua Tree Visitor Center (west) is the place to be especially during a beautiful time of year like Spring. The crowd was in non stop flow when we stopped in. You get a museum like exhibit display of what to expect and can receive some great information, pamphlets and pay entrance fees as well as explore their bookstore/gift shop, partake in the cafe and use the restroom if needed. Some of the other visitor center also have water/water refill stations and picnic tables. The east visitor center in Twentynine Palms has EV charging, but both have relatively spacious lots for parking. I know there's a south center as well (Cottonwood Visitors Center), but it doesn't have an exact address (you can find it off Pinto Rd in Twentynine Palms off the I-10). The service at this center is pretty personable, but the gift shop is very limited if you're hoping to bring something back for someone. I did buy some magnets and postcards I'll give out throughout the year. Love that you can purchase a pass for the year or even lifetime if you're a veteran, senior or in the military. Students under a certain age (4th grade level) can receive a free pass for the year and teens and children 15 or younger get in for free. There are various tiers and perks that do make it worth the fees plus EIGHTY percent goes to helping persevere the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park.

Stamps for this trip...hit every visitor center

Sooo busy!!! Try to avoid peak hours at this visitor center. It also has a small-ish parking lot but you can park on the street. It has a nice area of exhibits and a small gift shop. I don't know why but all the gift shops here for Joshua Tree are real limited on items. Lost of other NP gift shops have lots of items for their park but JT is very neglected. Kinda disappointed but I came mostly to get my passbook stamped and participate in the Junior Ranger program. (If you're an adult and don't have kids, I still recommend participating. It's really fun!)

If you just do the drive, you might not really see everything this park has to offer, so it's worth doing the hikes, even if only the easier ones. We did the Hidden Valley hike, which is only around a 1 mile loop. It can get pretty crowded though and the parking gets filled fast, so it's better to go early. We also went on the Barker Dam hike, which is also just a bit over a mile. This one was my favorite of the two and you get to climb some nice rocks on this hike. We did the other typical stuff like see skull rock, but didn't do this hike, and saw keys view, which is also really nice, but if you do go, it's definitely worth to do some hiking since it makes the experience of this park so much better.

As part of our quest to visit all 63 U.S. national parks, we set off on a six-week road trip. I…read morehave a personal rule: I only count a national park as "visited" if I actually spend time there, hike or walk through it, and truly experience it. On this trip, we visited 14 national parks, and Joshua Tree National Park was one of the most playful and surprising. My husband came up with what may be the park's most accurate unofficial name: "Amazing Boulders National Park... with a few Joshua trees." After spending a couple of days there, I had to admit he had a point. Yes, the Joshua trees are fascinating. These unusual plants are actually members of the yucca family rather than true trees, and they give the landscape a wonderfully whimsical character. But what completely captivated us were the enormous granite boulder formations scattered throughout the park. They seem to have been dropped from the sky by a giant child building a playground. Hiking here is simply fun. Around every corner, another incredible rock formation appears, and before long you find yourself spotting shapes in the rocks: an elephant, a skull, faces, animals, castles... your imagination takes over. Climbing on the boulders brought out our inner children. Unlike many hikes where you simply follow a trail, Joshua Tree encourages exploration and curiosity. One of the most fascinating aspects of the park is that it lies where two distinct deserts meet: the higher, cooler Mojave Desert, home to the Joshua trees, and the lower, hotter Colorado Desert, creating remarkable diversity in both plants and wildlife. We were fortunate to visit while many of the cacti were in bloom, adding splashes of color to the desert. We also enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife, including desert iguanas, ground squirrels, Gambel's quail, and countless birds that make this seemingly harsh environment feel surprisingly alive. The scenery constantly changes, from forests of Joshua trees to giant rock piles, hidden valleys, cholla gardens, and wide-open desert vistas. It is easy to understand why artists, photographers, climbers, and stargazers have been drawn here for generations. Joshua Tree National Park is one of those rare places that makes you smile while you're exploring it. It is beautiful, quirky, imaginative, and incredibly fun. Whether you come to hike, climb, photograph, or simply let your imagination run wild among the boulders, this park is unforgettable. Highly recommended, and if you find yourself calling it "Amazing Boulders National Park," don't worry... you're probably not the first.

Get there on a Thursday if you can swing it. If you can't, get there at the crack of dawn on Friday. Campsites will probably be full, but if you have faith and perfect timing, you'll whine/pout in the car for awhile until you snag one as someone else is leaving. This ended up being the case around 6:30 am, when we tested our luck at Ryan Campground after Jumbo Rocks was full. Ryan Campground has 31 campsites. If a post has an orange envelope clipped to it, the site's taken. Otherwise, it's yours. Sites are fairly spacious and surround a cluster of boulders. We snagged #16 for $15/night. If it's a weekend, it's a guarantee people will be circling the grounds each day in search of a site and asking if you plan to leave. They will also approach you at night and ask for advice on a place to camp. If you're feeling altruistic, keep in mind it's 2 vehicles per site. Make sure to consult the weather forecast beforehand--what we thought would be a little breeze ended up being 30 MPH gusts of hell. We took the ominous warning from the state park ranger lightly, who devilishly giggled after saying "no, you won't blow away." We didn't, but our tent collapsed, as did 80% of the tents surrounding us. Amidst our elemental battle, a couple pulled up to ask if we were leaving. We weren't, but invited them to share our site with us. The 4 of us combined couldn't keep our tent upright against the wind. An hour later, a torrential downpour forced us to throw everything into the car and sleep in a hotel. We returned the next morning when the wind died down. The weather didn't deter anyone, the sites were still full. Our tent dried out during the day and we were able to have a great experience. Highly advise a night hike to Ryan Ranch, but bear in mind you may encounter desert stragglers who've ingested hallucinogenics. It's entertaining. No matter your experience of Ryan Campground, you're sure to come away from it with a good story.

The fire risk was high due to the high winds so we were barred from using the fire pit and bbq grill that weekend. The Joshua trees are mesmerizing and are everywhere! I did buy a map that showed homes of past celebrities such as Doris Day, Elvis, etc. We did try to drive around and identify some of these homes, but it's not as easy as you would think. House numbers are not very apparent, and some of these streets are quite narrow, and with traffic behind you, you don't really have the opportunity to go slow and or stop to look. He went through a seemingly rehearsed spiel about what we should see/do without first ascertaining what type of activities we were interested in. It was helpful that he informed us that VillageFest, a weekly downtown event with artists, artisans, entertainers, food vendors, and more, would not be held that week because of Thanksgiving. But, we were disappointed that he couldn't answer some of our basic questions about the San Jacinto National Monument area. Also, in asking if the Visitor Center had a map for a self-guided walking tour of attractions, we were directed to a brochure of (paid) walking tours offered by the local historical society.
